Just a friendly reminder that the car hops are paid just like a waitress or waiter in a restaurant…so don’t forget to tip even if it is a quarter it adds up. 😊
Wow, I did not realize. I usually use the drive thru but I considered it to be a fast food chain like Mcd or BK.
That’s what I thought! ðŸ˜
That’s so wrong! What do they make $2-3 an hour ?! Makes me not want to go there anymore.
I think it is $4.15 a hour. They even rotate car hops or split the tips to try to make it fair. I had asked my friend that worked there and she said during happy hour they make decent money but most people don’t tip anymore ESP if they use debit or credit cards. That’s why I always keep change in the car just in case.
I worked at a Sonic in Texas, we were paid the minimum wage. The location where I worked we did not get regular breaks, we were only allowed to eat on the clock once we had been there for a certain amount of hours, and we had to report a percentage of tips equal to how much merch we ran out the door. Yes, some Sonic’s are different but I banked when I worked at Sonic, I think it would be ridiculous for someone to not pay at least minimum wage. Remember every Sonic is different, it is a nice reminder though for those who do not know to tip at Sonic!
I had to laugh when I saw this… I have been a bartender and server for 25 years so I know tipping is important but I draw the line here. My son and step daughter worked at Sonic and were paid 7.25 an hour when the min wage was 5.15. Min for a server and bartender was 2.13. I don’t tip carhops.
Pulled theses off from a site. Sonic workers get paid min wage or more. My daughters friend use to work at Sonic. got paid over $7 an hour.
I used to work there for 4+ years, and no, they do not make server salary. Everyone is paid over minimum wage. Tips are nice and appreciated. People generally tip their “change” if they are paying cash.
I don’t know how they would make it more known but they should figure out a way to let patrons know tipping is encouraged. It’s irresponsible of them to pay their people $2 or $3 an hour. I had no idea this was the case and the one or two times I received my food at my car I have not tipped. I though the same thing as the person who said they thought sonic was like McDonald’s.
They most definitely do NOT get paid $2-$3 and my sonic does not accept tips-there is a sign at every speaker!
Please read comments above, they are definitely paid minimum wage.
*Minimum wage or more, I meant.
I worked at Sonic in high school and o made $3.50 per hour. So it depends on your sonic. They do not allow you to tip on cards and I lived in a military town, and most military members used cards only, so it did not even out to minimum wage.
My daughter works at a Sonic in Iowa and she is paid the server’s wage, which is less than minimum. Minimum here is 7.25 but she makes the tipped wage of 4.25. So please keep in mind that the locations differ.
Sorry…meant to type she is paid 4.35 not 4.25.
Yes it does vary on location.
If it’s different at every location how would one know if the person is making a living wage or not without just flat out asking that just seems too complicated. I almost just don’t want to go there anymore and save myself the hassle of worrying about whether to tip or not. I certainly don’t think someone working at sonic should make more than I do but I also don’t think $4 an hour is fair either regardless of the fact that it’s a fast food chain.
The 2017 Washington minimum wage Is $11.00 and we don’t have server wages, so no tip from me for them to bring me food. Sorry.
I’m looking at all this comments on tipping or not tipping your server. It’s a given, you ALWAYS ALWAYS tip your server! It’s proper etiquette. If you seriously think that $11 hr in Washington is enough, then compare it to cost of living there, no better yet could you live on $11 hr? Quit being so cheap people. Have some respect and manners for the food service people or might find out one day something totally repulsive was done to your food by one of those people and would serve you right. Btw.. no i’m not a server nor in any food service business, i was just brought up with proper manners and etiquette.
So, you tip at McDonald’s?
I actualy work at Sonic right now as a Carhop and I get paid 6.00. We have to claim tips at the end of our shifts and if we don’t claim enough, they’ll void our checks. We basically work for tips. Btw this is in Memphis TN
I asked one at our Sonic and they said not to tip, they get paid regular wage.
