I agree with your thinking. This is a gift with purchase. I got this exact one with a purchase. I would not give it as a gift for the reason you mentioned. I don’t know if it would be a re-gift to give a gift with purchase. I think that would be more of a “this is not something I want but it is good enough for you” gift.

I don’t think it’s available for pick up. It tried few zip codes in CA, IL, WI with 100 mile radius, it’s all unavailable for store pick up. It’s free shipping anyway 🙂

My 6 piece set arrived today, but it has the wrong color lipstick and is missing the $10 card. 🙁 Customer service isn’t being very helpful over the phone.
My set has the wrong color of lipstick as well. I sent an email to customer service, waiting to hear back from them!
I also received the wrong shade — “bamboo pink”. It has pearl shimmer undertones and definitely not a shade I will use!

When I talked to the customer service lady at the end of June she said they didn’t have any more of that color lipstick. And also kept telling me my $10 card would be mailed separately. I did not believe that was true and nothing has come yet. I will call customer service again today.

I had to call macys.com and argue with them that it is supposed to come with it, as stated on their description. She tried telling me it was an “ebates issue”, “we would never give $10 with a $10 purchase.” Really? Because you are, read your own site! She had to “talk to a supervisor.” Finally got my $10 in a refund.
