I think Ibotta still has 3% cash back on Amazon devices

Do we think there will be a better deal on these as the holidays get closer?

Has anyone bought this for a 6 year old yet? From what I read they can do web search and download apps?

    • Ginell

I bought the Fire 7 for my son last year. You can set parental controls so they can’t download apps without your approval (you are required to sign in for downloads). Lots of learning games on there, fun games as well. Can get online and watch movies or youtube it. Also access Amazon kindle books. One down side is I can’t figure out how to create separate libraries, one for my son and one for me. As it is, he can access all my books, and they are not kid books.

        Share Content Using Family Library
You can start sharing Kindle books and other digital content after creating your Amazon Household. Each adult chooses what to share: you can share all of your compatible content, or you can choose to only share individual titles.

To share content through Family Library:

Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and click the Your Content tab.
Click the Show drop-down menu and choose the content type you’d like to share.
Check the box next to the title you’d like to share, and then click Add to Library.
Tip: If you do not see Add to Library after you’ve selected a title, select Show Family Library.
Select an adult or child profile from the drop-down menu, and then click OK.

Are you using Free Time within the Kindle? We have one for our daughter, but she only uses it in Free Time setting. I can’t figure out how to keep her from downloading apps within Free Time.

        • Marie

I can’t figure that out either and some of the apps are totally nonsense.

The Kindles were the best money I spent on the kids. They were around ages 3 & 6 when I got them. (they still work perfect 2-3 years later) I pay for the amazon free time and they’re full of parental controls. You can turn off web search, downloads, anything you want. Or you can buy free time which they can do all that but only results for the kids age range.

Don’t go cheap on inbuilt memory. When theses first came out I thought that I can buy the smallest memory and upgrade later with sd card, I was wrong. The notices about memory being full (even when everything is saved to the card) and the many times the kindle didn’t read the sd, got so bad my 3 and 4 year old stop playing with theirs. My mother lives hers but she has the max memory the offered

Am I the only one wondering why this kid is so darn messy at his age and why he has a tablet while he’s eating? Lol

    • Carol

Lol. It looks like he’s putting the spaghetti on the tablet on purpose!

    • Miriam

He’s already addicted to his devices… lol

  5. Kay

My kids both have these – my daughter’s recently had issues charging (it’s almost 2 years old), I sent it in, and we got a new kindle (no charge!). The warranty is great, and my kids have seriously stood on theirs and not had them break!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow! Good to know how well they hold up! Thanks for sharing your experience Kay!

  6. Sarah

Can I ask how you sent your kindle in? My son has one that has been great but I’m noticing an issue with charging. I can’t print a return label like I have for my other returns. How did you do it? Thanks!!

    • Sara

You have to contact customer service. Once they determine it’s something they can’t fix over phone/chat, they will send you a link to print off a return label.

  7. Helpmesave

I was wondering if your able to watch Netflix on these? Thanks in advance for any help!

    • Helpmesave

      *you’re

  8. Marie

Yes you can watch Netflix on them . My son loved having his own little movie time .

    • Helpmesave

      Thank you!

  9. Amy

Just curious….do these have all the same functions as a regular kindle, with more “kid tough” features?

  10. Em

Can you play minecraft on these? My son is wanting a tablet for Christmas primarily for minecraft. Any suggestions?

  11. esmeralda Elliott

would this be better then black Friday?

Someone told me there’s actually a lawsuit going on with the Amazon Fire kids. Apparently from the free time app because kids can go in and download anything it’s not blocked a bunch of parents of had some huge charges to their Amazon account. Hence the lawsuit. We have a kids fire, however as far as I know they have to enter the same password as any other purchase on Amazon. So we haven’t had any trouble with crazy downloads

How long does this offer last???

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It appears to be available for a limited time.
