Use the Ring Doorbell system to keep an eye on your home and check in with visitors from your phone even when you are not home. You’ll get alerts when motion is detected and you can even speak with visitors remotely! And this system connects through existing doorbell wiring so there are no batteries to change.
On the fence? Check out what my sidekick Mary has to say…
We purchased a Ring Video Doorbell Pro since our neighborhood has had a few missing packages and break-ins over the past few months and I have to say it is really cool!
We actually installed it this past Saturday and ended up catching my daughter having friends over without asking us after we had just left the house when she was supposed to be doing chores (so she could go out later). I called her right after I saw her friends came over while we were out and asked her what she was doing and she said “Oh I’m doing chores” and I was able to immediately call her on it. Pretty funny as she said her friends came over to help with chores. Oh my – gonna be a long summer! 😉
Anyways, it’s pretty cool as it’s easy to install and you can make it as sensitive as you want it to so it can detect all motion or you can just have it notify you strictly when people ring the doorbell.
Is there a monthly service fee or something with these (any) video doorbells?
no, it should connect to your wifi
If you want video to be saved then yes there is a fee. We just got this for our front door and it’s $30/year to have video saved to the cloud
I’ve never heard of this website (rakuten) has anyone ordered from them before?
they are reliable like bestbuy
Best investment I have ever made regarding security, reception is awesome, picture quality great. Highly recommend.
Oh awesome! Good to know it has worked so well for your home! Thanks for the recommendation!
We love ours!
Not seeing where to enter the code? Does anyone have any experience with their return policy? I’m a little hesitant to buy it only because I’d be worried i would have issues if I needed to return it.
Did you find where to put in your code? I can’t find it either.
Hi Vanessa! You should find the promo code option available at the payment section of the checkout process. Hope this helps!
I’m having the same problem, went through all the steps and don’t see a place for a promo code??
Hmm, are you logged in to your account?
Thank you! That was the problem. I went back in and created an account FIRST, then checked out and the coupon box appeared. If you try to checkout as a guest and create your account AFTER shopping, they don’t give you that option. 😛
Yay! You’re very welcome! Happy you could snag the savings!
My husband bought the pro Ring back in June of this year from Best Buy. We have the front door bell & 2 other Ring home security cameras & honestly at first I thought it was great, however none of the literature accompanied in the package mentioned anything about if you need to keep any videos for proof of theft or break ins you have to subscribe either monthly or yearly (pay a fee to be able to keep your videos).
Also we have found that the cameras freeze a lot & or the screen just goes black, plus it is Not HD. Unless someone is directly in front of it, within 2-3 ft, forget anything other than a general description ( it gets extremely fuzzy)
I have to say, yes I am glad we have it, however if we had known these issues ahead of time & for the money, we definitely would had looked into something else.
This is just my two cents & my opinion… I hope it helps someone out there?
;). 🙂
Lory,
That is helpful. Does anyone have any other recommendations? I’m thinking of waiting until Black Friday anyways, so I want to make sure I’m making the right choice. Thanks!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience Lory!
I’m just starting to look at these type of devices and I’m wondering if this is the one to go with. Anyone have experience with also using thermostats or other smart type home devices? I’m thinking about getting thermostats that I can control from my phone and wondering if there’s a brand that all ties together so I just need one app.
If you want an all in one brand I would go with Nest. They have indoor and outdoor cameras and a thermostat, all can be accessed by your phone. I didn’t personally have these, but a family I nannies for did and they worked wonderfully! It was nice to be able to let the parents know we were headed back to the house after a long outing and they’ed turn the heat up for us!
We have the Arlo system and like it. We got it at best buy, but I think it’s sold other places? You can add multiple camera’s. There’s no monthly service fee. You can get notifications to your phone through the app when there is motion detected . It will take video clips that are instantly posted to storage and it keeps 7 days worth. It works through your Wi-Fi connection. So if you’re at work you can control the system by turning it on or off or doing a live video feed, or like I said if it detects motion you get an instant notification to your phone and you can go into the app to see what’s going on. The only thing I will say is that, we live in Minnesota so when it gets below maybe 20 degrees doesn’t always work as well but other than that it’s been great. We keep ours outside but if you were to keep one inside obviously that wouldn’t be a problem.
We have the ring at our front and back door, in addition to the Arlo. We got the ring 1st, because it’s cheaper, but we like the Arlo so much more. We get a lot of “false alarms” with the ring (with cars driving by on the street), but when UPS/Fed-Ex comes to drop off packages at the front door, the ring only catches a glimpse of their backs as they’re leaving. Like Caralynn says, the arlo stores up to 7 days “free”, so that’s a great feature for us.
We just got the Ring doorbell and love it so far. We also have a smart thermostat, door lock, lights, sprinkler system, and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. Definitely worth the investment. The thermostat and sprinklers have saved us money as they are meant for efficiency. Look up rebates through your power/ gas/ water company; most give a 50% return off your purchase price
We just purchased a Lorex security camera system at Costco for $799. It records in 4k he and its really clear. We spent the extra money because if ever the case, we wanted to make sure it would have a clear image of who or what happened. It is wired so it will take some time to set it up around the exterior but my husband is very handy. It can also be accessed on your phone where you can watch love stream of any camera live.
It records to its own hard drive so no monthly fee
We love ours. It has been invaluable when we are out of town and someone comes to drop off a delivery.
Great to hear you have been so pleased with yours! Thanks for the feedback!
Its awesome! Good investment!
Anyone know how much data is typically used with a security system and if it works using a hotspot?
