My 4 year old has the blue and we love it! We are out of the free year now but for 3.99 a month we still have unlimited downloads. which is great because my 8 and 9 year olds can also connect to this free time profile on their kindle fire tablets. This tablet has stood up to multiple tantrum throws and irritation with games with no defects or problems. Going on three years now and would def. recommend if your looking for a great tablet for your child.
Did you buy a screen guard?
No screen guard and hasn’t been a problem! My son is rough with this tablet.
How cool! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Good to know how well they hold up!
Hi. Thank you so much for your feedback! Can you help me? My son is 8 years old and wants this tablet for Christmas. He’s never had a tablet if his own and has only used our iPad. What is the difference between this tablet and the regular kindle fire tablet and which would you recommend for an 8 year old boy?
You can use this in free time profile (which is the free downloads but is a younger child format.) However you can also use this tablet as an adult and use the regular kindle form of the fire tablets. Browse internet, use Netflix, download apps etc without that free time … I would recommend for any age child that isn’t a teen. It works the same the only perk is your getting that 2 year worry free replacement and a year of free downloads and play time. You can lock these with pass codes as a parent so they can not access the internet or anything you don’t want a child doing. The free time is already that way they can’t access internet when your on the free time profile etc if you don’t want them to. Very versatile. My 8 year old girl and 9 year old boy grab this one often and enjoy it also.
If it helps I bought the regular kindle fire for my two older children first. After purchasing this one later I would have purchased for all 3 if it would have been purchased before the other two. Your getting the case, free time and downloads, 2 year replacement and tech support and can use this just like the other fire tablets.
Thank you both so much for your feedback!!!
My little ones have this and my oldder kids have the regular kindle fire tablets. I think these are more for kids under 7 I would say. My daughter and 8 asked for a bigger one so she gave hers to my 6 year old 🙂
I would get him a regular fire. We have the kids version and it has served us well, but now my son is 8 and it’s time for an upgrade. Memory has become an issue as the apps for the older group seems to take up more room. FreeTime doesn’t interest my son anymore either. I would go with a regular Kindle Fire, set up some parental controls and get a good case. I found some really cheap cases at Toys R Us!
We just deleted all of the apps and such that were on the device and put in an external memory card. The case is super nice bc it’s thick. This deal is nice for the 2 year guarantee on them. We did this last year and I personally use one on a daily basis for my kindle edition graduate books and audible. Plus you can use Alexa on these! 🙂
I’m eyeing these for Christmas gifts…but I have to buy 3. Think this is the best price? Or should I wait for Cyber Monday?
Im waiting for cyber Monday 🙂
I would recommend watching Toys R Us. A few weeks ago they had the 8 version which is a bigger screen and better sound on sale for $79.99. I ended up price matching at Target. We have both the iPad and kindles in my home and my kids like using both. For them they just want a larger screen.
Did the ones at target come with everything Amazon offers?? The two year warranty and the one year Freetime?
Yes. It is exactly the same packaging Amazon would send. I’m hoping since I haven’t activated it that the Freetime will start after Christmas. It says right on the box 2 year guarantee.
Thanks for the reply Michelle!
Two year warranty starts the day you purchased it. Free time starts when you activate the tablet. 😊
Good to know!! Thanks 🤗
The 8 also has a bundle deal. 2 for $195. That is $97.5 per kindle. Still not cheaper than $79. But I get to check it off my list 🙂

These are pretty good but the charging ports are pretty crummy. Just treat them gently when charging because both of the ones we have are now very tricky to get a connection and nearly 1 year old now. Our kids take pretty good care of them too.
Two year warranty. Just get them replaced.
We have these for our kids. 5 and 2. The only big negative I’ve run into is that some apps I’ve wanted for them are not available on the amazon App Store.
Thanks for the honest feedback!
