Same here! I read it to my twins when they were about 6 most old. It was the first time I read it. I was crying by the end and the kids were just staring at me. Ha ha It is a good story but I can’t read it without crying.
OMG every family should have this book! I could never finish reading to our son though I always started crying in the middle and daddy had to finish the book! And what a great price this is.

I cry EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I read this to my kids. It is such a lovely, emotional story. My son always tells me he will take care of me like the man does in the book. Then I cry some more. ; )

I always thought this book was weird and creepy. Now that I’ve older and have my own little baby I should read it again and see if I’ve changed my mind…everyone seems to love it! Ha

If I remember right isn’t it just that one page where the older mom is holding her grown son? It kind of throws you at first but the idea is nice. (haha, my son is 20 and he wouldn’t ever do that) lol
Ha! I have soon to be 6 kids and I just purged this book that I had had since the 80’s for this same reason! It creeps me out and I just feel it’s really codependent behavior and inappropriate.
You should read the story behind the author who was inspired to write that book. Now that is a real sad story! 😞

My mother is obsessed with this book and tries to buy one for every new baby in the family. I personally think it is creepy and weird and even though I am a grandmother now I still have the same opinion still creepy and weird. The reviews are great. Just all a matter of personal preference.

This is my all time favorite book! I actually have the ‘i love you forever, I like you for always as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be’ tattooed on my back in the shape of a heart with my daughters name at the bottom
I Love Love Love this book .
Someone bought it for my daughter when she was little and I sent it to goodwill. It was awful and morbid. I know it’s a big hit…some may like it, but who wants to think about that stuff when their babies are small- not me.
We own this book and it’s awesome. It is sad, but teaches the true meaning of love. I highly recommend it.

This book has so much more meaning behind it then most probably thought. It’s about this song a man thought of for his wife after they had 2 still born babies. After going though the same exact thing myself you look at it completely different. It reminds you of the unconditional love you have for your child whether they’re living or not. I don’t think it’s creepy after knowing the story behind it.
My absolute all time favorite book. I’ve loved this book since I was a little girl and my grandpa would read it to me
I have not read the story behind it and the idea is sweet but yeah…a bit creepy. Specifically the part where she climbs in her grown son’s window when he’s asleep to rock him. Luckily my youngest only wanted to read it for a short time.

I have it and read it to my kids- I love it .
At first I thought it was creepy about the mom holding the grown child BUT that’s what is sad in this day and age in our society . How could a mother’s love ever be creepy. No matter how big the boy gets he’s still her baby. No maybe he won’t literally be held in that way maybe he would just lay his head on her lap but point being it’s not creepy. If your son grows up and wants his mom because something happened you won’t be there for him to hold him and help him sure you would.
I def cried while reading it. It’s really a book for me and I don’t think I would read it to my child because he isn’t old enough to process the circle of life he would just begin to worry that I may be gone and I don’t want him to think that.
It’s hard to capture motherhood in a book with such few pages but this is beautiful.
The mom holding her grown son isn’t the creepy part. The creepy part is her breaking into his house while he is sleeping. I love my mom, and my home is always open to her, but the image of the mom driving to her sons house with a ladder is very stalkerish and was what I found I creepy. But despite that I do still like the book. Knowing the meaning behind the story helped balance the creepy, and helped me understand the sad undertones to the book.
LOL, creepy?! You readers are very literal. It’s a humorous idea to illustrate the mother’s continuing love. The ladder part and the mother rocking her grown son makes the reader and kids laugh, because it’s silly, which helps lighten the book. Lovely story.
I agree that it’s more of a representation of what a mother would do to show her love and comfort her child.

As my children’s literature professor said: this is an adult book. How many kids like it? It’s all adults.

One day my daughter kept asking me to read her the baby yulby book. I couldn’t figure out what book she was talking about. She later brought me this book. I realized it was baby you’ll be… we read this many times together before and after that day.
In our religion we believe that families are eternal and so I would always say forever and ever and ever my baby you’ll be. I love how this book shows continual love.
I feel like people are so quick to call every little thing “creepy” these days, like it’s the thing to do. The book was written by a man who had two stillborn babies. Ever stop to think that maybe this is how he processed his grief and coped with it? The meaning changes when you actually learn about the background of the story.

Children at my job (at a school) are always saying how everything is “creepy” and I try to get them to talk about what exactly makes them uncomfortable about something. I think what is sad is that so many people don’t get to experience intimacy or closeness within a parent/child relationship so they think it is weird if someone else does. Even grown men and women will always be their mama’s babies.
Love the book. My first time ever reading it was when I was a toddler teacher. I cried. Thankfully the kiddos weren’t freaked out or judgemental. LOL. It’s a sweet but kind of creepy book.

I read this book to all 3 of my children. I’ve gotten it for both my granddaughters. The story behind the book will make you cry harder than the book does! A wonderful addition to your library.
Right? I laughed at the commenters calling it “stalkerish” and “codependent”. It’s a children’s book and obviously is meant to be whimsical- not literal! In reality, no mother is really going to climb into her grown son’s room and place him on her lap so that she can rock him. But the sentiment behind that part of the story is a universal one- no matter how old you get, your mother will still see the baby in you and will always love you the way she did when she first laid eyes on you.
People find it easier to be critical and cynical of everything now, vs. being open-minded and seeing the bigger picture. It’s really unfortunate.
