Check your location even though I have Prime its a min 2 week ship time to HI. That’s not due to the ship time its due to the fact they hold your order for weeks before shipping it. A lot of friends on the island have complained about the same thing.

    • Miriam

It depends on the item. Usually ship times are decently quick (though not 2 days!), but this holiday season has been terrible for orders to Hawai‘i. I’ve had one package lost and most others significantly delayed beyond their expected delivery dates. Parcel Post shipping seems to be the worst. My Subscribe and Save orders have been arriving on time, though.

  2. Steph

My biggest pet peeve with amazon is even as a Prime member most shows are NOT free that they offer. At 2.99/episode it adds up fast ($25/season) and I feel as a paying member everything they offer should be included.

    • Swirlypop

Totally agree! Very annoying! I don’t pay for extras when streaming tho.

      • Michele

I agree! I don’t understand how there’s hundreds of shows and movies to stream…. it’s all an additional fee. The “free included with prime” streaming is very limited.

  3. Miabellaraleigh

Also 20% discount on pre-order video games!

  4. Miriam

Some of these are not available in all areas, namely Hawai‘i. We don’t get 2-day shipping, no rush credits, or Prime pantry. Also, be careful with the music service. We apparently had a free trial that turned into a subscription of about $8-9 a month. Given how much we shop on amazon every month, we didn’t notice the charge until almost a year later, and they only refunded us for one month since we had played music on it (again, unbeknownst to us, since we believed all available music and video to be included with Prime). I love Amazon, but these are just some things to be aware of!

  5. Caryn

Be careful with the No rush shipping…. I placed an order in June and just received it this week, six months later. 🙁

    • AOhio

      Holy wow! Good to know!

    • Me

Yikes! I guess when it’s NO RUSH, they weren’t kidding. That is absolutely NOT acceptable! Thanks for letting us know!

    • Nicole

Last October I was doing some Christmas shopping on Amazon. I didn’t have a Prime membership but spent a couple hundred dollars so shipping was free. It took them five weeks to ship my order. Since everything was in stock and shipped by Amazon (not third party), Amazon reps could not give me a reason for the delay. When the deals started happening around Black Friday I did not buy anything. I was afraid it wouldn’t arrive in time for Christmas. I should add, I do not live on the moon. I live in New England.

  6. dhcoupons

I love amazon prime. we use it for gifts and household items. Usually we can purchase an same item cheaper on amazon than other websites. I do have a question, has the amazon yearly membership increase in past years or has it always been at $99 for 1 year membership? I remember getting it for $67 one year and I felt like I won the lottery!

    • ET

The cost went from $79 to $99 in March 2014.

  7. Melanie

So how do you get the free trial??? I clicked on the link and I don’t see anything about the free trial.

    • kim

Me either. It just shows Prime student

  8. me

A lot of amazon products are not 2 day shipping. Just because it says prime, does not mean it is 2 day shipping. Lots of prime items are 3-5 days. You have to be careful and check the delivery dates.

    • ds

If your package does not come in two days you can call customer service and they will add 1 month free to your prime membership. I actually like when my package comes a day later

      • Daniela

My favorite feature… gotten so many months free in the past 2 years just by following my deliveries.

      • Sara

The problem is that the stated delivery date is always more than two days after placing the order. I have to wait until after 8:00pm on the stated delivery date to complain. I haven’t had actual two day delivery in several years.

My biggest pet peeve is that most of my orders get delivered by USPS. From when I signed up on 9/15/11 until 11/15/14, all of my orders came by UPS or FedEx. Now it is almost always USPS, UPS SurePost, or FedEx Smartpost.

In December 2014, I flew to Missouri to visit my mom for Christmas. I flew to Missouri on 12/17. I placed one order on 11/15(split into four deliveries) and put my name and the address of my house(we co-owned it) in Missouri. I didn’t want to put the items in my checked bag. I chose no rush shipping, thinking that the items would arrive in plenty of time for Christmas. I was expecting the orders to be delivered by UPS or FedEx as they always had been. UPS and FedEx don’t care what your USPS address is.

All four were delivered by USPS. They were first sent to Missouri. My mom was able to snag the second package(4 items) before it was forwarded to my new address. The third package(1 item) could have been late because it had to be forwarded, so I had to reorder that item. I put my mother’s name on it. I wasn’t charged again. I returned the original when it arrived.

The first package(2 items) was reordered for the same reason as the third package, but it was delivered to my apartment. I wasn’t charged again. I returned the originals when they arrived.

The fourth package(1 item) made it to Missouri, but then it was delivered to an Amazon facility in Las Vegas. Someone decided, without asking me, that I wanted to return the item. I was given a partial refund(charged for return shipping). I called, got the rest of my money back, and reordered the item with my mother’s name on it.

Just a heads up. I think Amazon may be doing away with the free unlimited photo storage. I was notified starting in April my free unlimited plan would be $59.99 per year or 100 GB for $11.99 per year.

  10. Nikki

Off topic, but I have a Toys R Us gift card with $9.19 on it, that I would like to trade for an Amazon gift card of similar value. Anyone interested? Thanks 😊

  11. JES

I love Amazon wish list. It is so helpful to know what my extended family really needs or wants. It is so convenient and easy to use, just like a registry for all occasions. I try to expand on their list, such as my uncle is a big gamer and coffee drinker so I ordered him a mug featuring the game I ordered from his wish list.

  12. beth pitt

I thought they had a deal last year around this time for about $79 for Amazon Prime Membership? Did I miss it?

    • ds

They haven’t had a discounted rate for awhile now

      • beth pitt

Oh, that stinks. I thought maybe I missed it.

  13. A

Does anyone have free shipping code for shutterfly ? I really need it.
    Please email me at

  14. ds

Did anyone else notice that come the first of the year you will no longer be able to stream YouTube through your fire stick. I just read this somewhere that google is no longer allowing this for Amazon fire stick devices. Tug a war between 2 huge companies

  15. Me

Yikes…from what I’m hearing and from other articles I’ve read….the prices are going to creep up, up, up. The more that Amazon takes over/buys/etc. the less choices we will have and they will be able to set the prices. What might have been cheap or free will probably not be in a matter of time. Amazon kind of scares me since it’s eating up a lot of the little guys.

    • Michele

My husband just told me this. It’s funny we stream YouTube up stairs on the chromcast but downstairs we stream everything else on the fire tv. So the change won’t effect our streaming habits.

  16. Mama

Thanks for the info. I didn’t realize all of the advantages of having Prime.

  17. Nina

Definitely using that over 2 day tip. The prime stuff we order never comes in 2 days, I just thought that’s the way it is.

  18. Amanda

Also, the preorders may not come as quickly as regular orders. There was a huge fiasco with a popular cookbook that was released a few months ago. Many people preordered because the authors gave extra freebies to preorders. When release time came, people that preordered were waiting up to two weeks, while people who waited and ordered the day it released received their copy within the regular two days.

  19. Raedev

If you have EBT you can get discounted Amazon prime. It’s like 79.99 a year or something 🙂 just google search it.

  20. Amy

We love amazon prime benefits esp the faster shipping. Unfortunately, some things don’t always arrive in 2 days- but we are still getting quicker than normal regular shipping. It’s totally worth trying with the free trial to see if you like it and if it would be beneficial for your household.

  21. Angela

Thank you, Colllin! I just had a big shipping problem (items going to an Amazon locker that never showed up) & spent about an hour on the phone straightening it out. The new packages are coming, but no one offered me an additional month of prime. So, I just called them & they extended our membership one month. Thanks!

  22. Brittney Gardner

The amazon welcome baby box has some pretty great things in it right now! I received a pack of huggies size 1, a pack of water wipes, a couple honest company diapers, a muslin swaddle blanket, a pack of 2 diapers ( I cant remember the brand at the moment), a sample of dove baby wash, a sample box of 7th generation baby products, 2 sets of avent nursing pads, and some small moisturizing samples for my self.

  23. Melanie

Does anyone know how to get the free trial?

  24. Lu

I just got an email tonight from Shopkick that they are offering $20 gift card for signing up for Prime through them. That’s a great deal, of course I already have Amazon prime though!

  25. Lindsey10

Does anybody have any discount codes for Amazon Prints they won’t be using? I’m not spending the $35 minimum to get the 60% off and when I searched it appears that they have some codes they emailed to select members, but I didn’t receive any.

  26. Cara

I had a prime membership 2 years ago. I’m my area almost everything was delivered via UPS, which required me being home to accept packages. They showed up any time between like 10 a.m. and 9 at night. Dates were often changed suddenly and I was forced to rearrange plans and spend time sitting at home. Is there a way around this?

    • Marcie

Try calling ups. Most of my stuff gets delivered by them and they just leave it on my porch or by the side door. I’m almost never home to get stuff.

  27. Ashley

Love this post! I’ve been a member for 5 years and didn’t know many of these!

  28. Maggie

Another unadvertised perk: you can subscribe to Washington Post digital for $3.99/month (about half the usual rate), by logging into Prime and searching for Washington Post on Amazon.

  29. Kelly K.

You can also get amazon prime student (if you are in school) which is a savings
