Off topic but we have a last minute plan to go down to florida during the new years week. I would love if anyone can give suggestions on what to do. I have a 3 year old and me and my husband don’t think Disney World would be the thing for her at this age. She is too young to enjoy rides and is still scared of the dressed up characters. Please suggest ideas around orlando, tampa and nearby attraactions. TIA
You could check out Lego Land. Might be fun. I haven’t been there, but someone recommended it to us when we went to Disney, we just didn’t have time.
Honestly…Lego Land was overrated in my opinion. My 7 year old wanted to go so bad. This was two years ago. There were a handful of rides and alot of looking at things made out of Legos. Disney Springs has things made out of Legos and an awesome Lego Store…and that’s free! (We did not stay at the Lego Land hotel by the way.)
The Central Florida Zoo in Sanford is great, not sure if it still does but used to have train rides. Also, downtown Disney changed it’s name but it used to have carousel and boat rides, and an old fashioned ice cream shop but would have to look further into it because it’s been a while since have been there. Seaworld can be fun for the younger ones.
I live near tampa and we always recommend Busch Gardens. Its an amusement park and zoo in one. They have water area for small kids in sesame street area and fun animal and skating shows inside ac theaters. Also usually if you pay for a day you come back for a year for free.
Crayola Experience is fun for little ones. Look around for coupons/discounts. We also love Busch Gardens. The kid’s area is great.

Downtown Disney is now called Disney Springs. During the Christmas season they have a Christmas
Tree Trail, 25 decorated Christmas trees. You can also do Stitches Holiday Gift Hunt. You get a booklet with stickers at each location you put the correct sticker in you booklet when you are finished you get a gift. It is a button you can wear. You could go to the rainforest cafe for lunch.
Sea Life Aquarium has Toddler time on Tuesdays at 9:30am tickets include admission to the aquarium. Buy your tickets online $15 for adults and $12 for children
Although you don’t want to go to Disney World you can visit the hotels for free. You can get a 3 hour parking pass to check out the hotel. i would consider Wilderness Lodge. This where the horses are housed. I believe small children are allowed to ride They also have wagon rides. There is a butterfly conservatory. In the evenings they have a campfire where you can roast marshmallows for s’mores. Chip and Dale do make an appearance.
If you decide to go to legoland (my 3 and 5 year old loved it and they’re not really into legos), you can get a buy one adult get one child in for free. We happened to get the website/code from a McDonald’s kids meal but you could probably Google Search it. It cost $200 for 4 of us to go, which is cheaper than paying individually. We didn’t do Disneyland (we went to the legoland in Cali) since we didn’t think our kids could handle the long wait and most of the rides are geared for older kids. But Legoland has legos/blocks for the kids to play with on the long waits while the parents stand in line, which we thought was genius. They are kiddie rides targeted for ages 2-11 so they shouldn’t be too scary or crazy, though a 9 year old would probably get bored of how the rides aren’t super fast/twisty. We’d definitely recommend this activity for this age group. Have fun!
I second Tia, crayola experience is cute as hell for little ones. Its at florida mall so obv there are places to eat and shop. Also check out International drive. Its basically the street that has it all, every restaurant known to man, and lots of fun stuff like ripleys museum, wonder works, dinner shows etc. Thats also where sea world and universal are so its in the heart of tourist district.
Go on Pinterest!!! Every yr we go and the bloggers that know the area better than anyone have step by step info on where to go, what to do, what time….hidden treasures no one tells u about!!! Just search free things to do at Disney(Or surrounding area) Like I said we go every yr and I’m always amazed by the stuff I find. Good luck & have fun!!!!
