20 Kohl’s Shopping Hacks That REALLY Work

Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

If you shop at Kohl’s as much as I do, you likely know that there are lots of fantastic ways to save BIG in-store and online throughout the year! With that said, check out these money-saving tips to help you get the most bang for your buck both in-store AND online

1.) Spend $2 LESS to Earn $10 Kohl’s Cash

Did you know that you can actually spend just $48 after all applicable discounts and before tax instead of the usual $50 and still receive a $10 Kohl’s Cash Reward (during applicable Kohl’s Cash promotion dates)? Even though it may not show up during the final stages of online checkout, once you complete your order, you will in fact see that you have earned $10 in Kohl’s cash!

2.) Don’t Throw Away Expired Kohl’s Cash

Don’t throw away expired Kohl’s Cash! Kohl’s offers a 10-day grace period for expired Kohl’s Cash, valid in-store only. While an expired Kohl’s Cash coupon cannot be applied to a Kohl’s.com order, your local Kohl’s store will still honor it up to 10 calendar days after the expiration. Awesome!

3.) Get 5% Back for Every $100 You Spend

Love rewards? Be sure to sign up for Yes2You Rewards (it’s FREE!) as you’ll essentially receive 5% back on every order of $100. Plus, you’ll get eight guaranteed savings offers every year plus a special birthday gift, opportunities to earn bonus points and so much more – with even some surprises for you along the way! Keep in mind that Yes2You Rewards are issued once a month.

4.) Download the Free Kohl’s App

The FREE Kohl’s App has lots of handy features available! You can store your Kohl’s Cash & Yes2You Rewards in the virtual Wallet, save coupons within the app AND use the barcode scanner in store mode to check prices instead of lugging items to the price checker.

AND you will get 10 Yes2You Rewards points just for downloading the app! In the app, you’ll also get 10 points for liking Kohl’s on Facebook, following them on Pinterest, following them on Instagram, following them on Twitter, subscribing to their YouTube channel AND following them on Google+.

Plus, connect to the Kohl’s Guest Wi-Fi in-store as you may receive special offers while shopping! If you choose to shop via the Kohl’s App while you’re in-store, you may score FREE shipping too!

5.) Watch for Mailer Coupons

Kohl’s mails out different coupons to customers throughout the year but not every customer will receive the same coupon at the same time. On occasion and usually during the holidays, you may receive a $5 off $5 purchase mailer coupon (or other denomination) that can make for FREE items!

Plus, Kohl’s often mails out coupons to non-Kohl’s cardholders in areas where a new store will be opening or has been recently remodeled, but unfortunately, there’s no system to who gets them.

6.) Shop on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of the Month

Kohl’s offers its biggest markdowns on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month during their “Night Owl” and “Early Bird” events when prices are an extra 10-25% off. These sales start in-stores on Friday evenings from 3PM local time until midnight and continue on Saturday from open until 1PM. Or shop online from 2PM-Midnight on Friday evening until 3PM CST on Saturday.

Hip Tip – Certain products are never eligible for promotional discounts or coupons, so you won’t be able to apply additional discounts or coupons if you buy these brands. However, you can earn and redeem Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You Rewards. See the excluded brands here.

7.) Look for In-Store Coupons & Promotions

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for various coupons or promotions throughout the store! During a previous promotion, you could find $10 off any Bliss Skincare purchase coupons possibly on the Bliss display OR whenever you asked a store associate for the coupon – no purchase required.

8.) Shop Often? Apply for a Kohl’s Charge Card

Usually around once a month, Kohl’s offers 30% off AND free shipping for Kohl’s Cardholders (generally non-cardholders can save 15% during this time). If you shop at Kohl’s often, consider signing up for a store card as you’ll receive lots of exclusive cardholder coupons that stack with other coupons for huge savings. You’ll even be able to save 25% your first Kohl’s Charge purchase!

Plus, Kohl’s Cardholders who spend over $600 a year get placed into the “Most Valuable Customer” program and receive at least 18 discounts throughout the year. AND, no receipt is needed for Kohl’s Charge purchases if you’re wanting to make a return. If you use any credit card to make your purchases, your shopping history will be stored in their computer for a full year!

9.) BUT, Make Immediate Kohl’s Charge Card Payments

Make immediate payments on Kohl's charge cardHave a Kohl’s Card and are nervous about late fees? Did you know that you can immediately make a payment on your Kohl’s card after using it in-store? Just make a payment at the register using cash, check, money order, or a Kohl’s Cares card or head to the kiosks located around the store. Cash or check payments will post to your account the same day, if paid at a register.

10.) Save 90% or MORE on Clearance Items

One of the best ways to save at Kohl’s is by shopping the Clearance sections! If you’re heading in-store, look for yellow clearance stickers found on the products or keep your eyes peeled for the shelves with the Clearance Gold Star signs above each department or throughout the store.

After the holidays, you’ll eventually find items marked up to 90% off. AND, you can stack store coupons, Kohl’s Cash AND your Kohl’s Charge Card on clearance items, making for awesome deals! Plus, you’ll also earn Kohl’s Cash on clearance purchases if shopping during a Kohl’s Cash period.

11.) Watch for Items with Rebates or Gift Card Offers

One of the best times to purchase kitchen appliances, pots and pans, luggage and more is whenever Kohl’s is offering up a mail-in rebate or gift card with purchase of qualifying items. Even better, you can also apply coupons and promo codes to these rebate items to save even more!

During a previous small appliances promotion, you could score select Toastmaster appliances for as low as $2.44 (regularly $29.99) after combining promo codes with the mail-in rebate! Sweet!

12.) Get Price Adjustments (+ Hassle-Free Return Policy)

Did you buy a non-clearance item at Kohl’s only to find out it went on sale a few days later? Price adjustments are available for two weeks after the purchase date if the item(s) purchased were further reduced from the original priced you paid. Just be sure to hang on to your receipt and head to the customer service desk to receive the difference. The price adjustment is also available on a Kohl’s.com purchase whenever you call customer service at (855) 564-5705.

Plus, as mentioned in their online policy, there are no time restrictions for returns! You can get cash back for up to 12 months after purchase and after that you will receive in-store merchandise credit.

Hip Tip – If you’re making a return and you purchased an item on sale or full price and the store does not have the item you’re wanting to exchange it for, you can do an even exchange for a different item of the same regular price! That means if you paid $5 (reg. $40), you can return it for a different $40 item! Note that this policy may vary by store.

13.) Know How to Decode the LCD Price Signs

Wondering what all the letters mean on the sale signs or price tags? Rumor has it that if you see a sale item that has a LCD price tag with a small black square in the upper-right corner, it means that there are limited stock available, so be sure to grab it before it’s gone!

Also, look for other codes which indicate when an item will be marked down. In the upper right-hand corner of the LCD display, you’ll find letters such as the following…

  • GV – Limited-time sale or price drop
  • S – Sale Item (usually lasts 1-2 weeks)
  • NM – The item will be marked down again
  • BGH – Buy One Get One 1/2 Off
  • BB – Bonus Buy
  • PP – Product Placement (fixed price, not percent discount)

14.) Kiosk Orders Always Ship FREE

Not finding what you are looking for in-store? Orders placed from any Kohl’s kiosk or via the Kohl’s mobile app (in-store only) automatically receive FREE standard shipping to your home.

The in-store kiosks allow you to search inventory and locate the size and color you need on Kohl’s.com and are still eligible for discount codes. Awesome!

15.) Kohl’s Honors In-Store Competitor Prices

Find a lower advertised price? Kohl’s honors in-store only competitor prices from any national retailer that has a brick-and-mortar store (Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Macy’s, etc.) on select brands only – just bring a current copy of the competitor’s ad with you (make sure the ad includes a description of the item). Also you will be able to redeem Kohl’s Cash when price matching.

16.) Sign Up for Kohl’s Sale Alerts

Sign up for Kohl’s Mobile Sales Alerts by texting SAVE15 to 56457 on your mobile device and you’ll instantly receive a 15% off coupon code on your device, valid online or in the Kohl’s mobile app! If you’ve already subscribed to text alerts in the past, first text STOP to 56457 and then text SAVE15 and you’ll receive a new promo code valid for 15% off your purchase.

Plus, whenever you sign up for Kohl’s Email Sale Alerts, you’ll receive an email with a coupon for an extra 15% off your next purchase, valid in-store or online! You’ll also receive email updates about their biggest sales & clearance events, notice of exclusive free shipping offers, plus more!

17.) Use FOUR Discount Codes for Online Orders

Shopping online is convenient since you can stack up to FOUR discount codes for online orders when purchasing from a computer. Keep in mind that you can only use ONE sitewide percent-off code (20% off entire purchase) and one free shipping code per order, but can use up to four Kohl’s rewards codes (i.e. Kohl’s Cash) or dollar off/percent off/department specific codes per order.

If placing an order from a mobile device, you’ll only be able to combine 2 coupon codes per order.

Note: Dollar-off coupons may be combined and combined with one percent-off coupon as well. When using both dollar & percent-off coupons, the dollar-off coupon will be deducted first at the register.

18.) Celebrating? Create a Gift Registry

The Kohl’s Wedding Registry offers Ever After Rewards where you can earn 10% rewards on gifts purchased from your registry – that means if you spend $500, you’ll get a whopping $50 reward back to spend (up to $200). Plus, if you register with select brands, you’ll also receive free gifts!

For both Baby and Wedding Registries, you can also send your guests Free Announcement Cards with a coupon for 20% off their $100 in-store purchase to use on your registry. You’ll also save an extra 15% on items left on your registry for 3 months after the wedding/arrival of baby.

19.) Over 60? Shop on Wednesdays

Kohl’s offers a 15% discount every Wednesday in-store only for customers aged 60 or better with proper identification. However, keep in mind that this offer cannot be applied in conjunction with any other percent-off discounts BUT will be applied to prior dollar-off discounts, including Kohl’s Cash coupons, Yes2You Rewards and Promotional Gifts (excludes select categories & brands).

20.) Save BIG on Kohl’s Gift Cards

One way to save on your Kohl’s purchases is to buy a discounted Kohl’s gift cards on Raise.com as you can use it in-store and online. You can also occasionally purchase discounted Kohl’s retail gift cards on sites like eBay, Amazon and the Swych App, but these deals often go fast!

My kohls would not take expired kohls cash.

    • Daniela

Likewise. My last one expired 2 days earlier, I actually thought it said 28 but it said 26. I explained my case to at least 5 phone reps and they finally gave me $10 off a purchase I made on the phone with them so I just bought a couple of towels. So grateful! I use them asap now.

      • Lori Lucas

GrAce period is in store only. Just went through this. It us always good for 2 days after date. Customer service said they delete the codes in batches so it can take up to 8 additional days hence the 10 days. Customer service or register can scan it to see if it still good

    • AG

I’m pretty sure Kohl’s changed their policy about expired Kohl’s Cash a while back. No one I know has stores that take them any more.

    • Ashley

My local Kohl’s will not accept expired Kohl’s cash. Not even a day past the date. I really have stopped shopping Kohl’s. They have the worst customer service!

      • Sky

I’ve experienced this too I wonder if that’s the way they train their employees to be rude and nasty.

      • Nikki

I Agreethe kohl’s by me has Terrible customer service people. It’s so bad I pray Not to get this one woman. She actually asked loudly why I waited so long to return. She gets annoyed when people return multiple items. She’s rude embarrassing and has a high and mighty Attitude! It’s not just me I saw her treat others customers the Same way. My kohl’s doesn’t take expired cash. I wanted to exchange a comforter king for a queen. This woman said no it had to be same Exact price. I said I’m giving you a king for queen. Wouldn’t do it . I didn’t want money back just smaller size. Finally store mgr helped and that’s because an original associate The asst.mgr didn’t even come out. He just stood behind the Customer service person. The original people are still awesome but they’re not all in same store anymore. Newer people need Training! !!!

    • Karen

Same here. My kohl’s wouldn’t take my expired kohl’s cash

    • Lesli Ramey

A cashier told my mom a couple of days ago that there’s usually a 15 day grace period for expired Kohls cash however my sister a couple months ago to the same Kohls and was told they won’t honor expired Kohls cash.

      • Nicole221

Mine won’t accept expired cash either- Chattanooga, TN 😕

    • Amanda

If you call the customer service #, they have a recording that states that Kohl’s cash can be used up to 10 days. If they won’t take it, call it in front of them! I just called and listened to it today.

      • Sarah

My local kohls will take them as long as it still scans. I have used it up to 10 days late (once in nov and dec ‘17). I have talked to a customer service rep on the phone before and said that sometimes you may have to call and get “approval” from a customer service rep and have them tell the cashier to accept it.

    • M.

Agree – I think most if not all Kohl’s changed their policy. My store said they no longer accept epired Kohl’s cash.

      • Shannon

The manager at my Kohls stated as long as it scans it works I have used them past 10 days but don’t take the chances anymore since I have heard they have cut back on how long they will take them but mine still does take them after they expired as long as it scans

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Hi guys, when I was writing up this post, I had $10 Kohl’s Cash expire a couple months ago and I spoke with a customer service rep and they told me that I would be able to use the Kohl’s Cash in-store only for up to 10 days past the expiration date. I had no problems, but I wonder if it may vary by store? You may want to call your local store before making a special trip. Hope that helps!

  2. Shellyy

    Thank you love this…

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      🙂 YW!

  3. Danielle

I do TRIP (program through schools and other non profits) and you can buy the gift cards and earn a % on those then pay off your CC balance also

  4. Thama

Even Kohls recorded message says that they accept KC for up to 10 days after ..instore.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Thanks Thama!

  5. sanno64

I had a cashier if I had any expired Kohl’s cash. She let me use it even after the 10 day period!! South FL location.

  6. Queenjen87

They have also changed their return policy. If an item goes on clearance, you may only exchange it for an item at the same clearance price. So if an item was originally $36 and is now on clearance for $10.40, you may exchange it for any item on clearance for $10.40

    • Jessica

That has always been the even exchange policy. If it’s on clearance, it’s the same exact clearance price. If it’s not clearance, it’s ticketed price (not sale price). When I started working there (13yrs ago) this was the policy. If they don’t take the Kohls cash ask to talk to a supervisor. When I worked there it wasn’t 10 days though. It was like 2 days expired – depending on the situation.

    • Ashley

Yeah most annoying exchange policy ever. I don’t play their games anymore 🙄

      • karen

Jessica….if a pair of jeans are on clearance in store but the exact jeans are full price online, are you allowed to order online but then take into store to do a return and repurchase at the in store clearance price?? Thank you for answers

  7. ShopHopper

    <3 Kohls!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      ❤️

  8. Stacy

I have 3 stores around me, within a 25 mile radius, and they all stopped taking expired Kohl’s cash quite a long time ago. It’s probably been a couple years already.

    • Britt

It’s a nation-wide policy now to accept it with a grace period. I think corporate just forgot to inform the stores! The customer service agent at my store said she knew nothing about it when I told her but said if the Kohl’s Cash rang up after it expired, they have to accept it.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

What a bummer! When I was writing up this post, I had $10 Kohl’s Cash expire a couple months ago and I spoke with a customer service rep and they told me that I would be able to use the Kohl’s Cash in-store only for up to 10 days past the expiration date. I had no problems, but I wonder if it may vary by store?

  9. Judy Trac

    Kohl’s won’t take 30% off and over 60 discount

    • Michelle

Employee here. The coupon policy that I know is that customers are allowed to use one percentage coupon at a time. If you have a 30 we’d use that since it’s a better discount than the age discount.

  10. Mirela

Thanks to your posts I have decided to apply for kohl’s charge – best decision ever! I was able to get TONS of great deals combining regular discounts with card holders only discounts- I also have freeshipping where for $12ish a month you get unlimited free shipping with over a 1000 retailers- how bout that? ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    • Mirela

      Oh and 10% cashback!!

      • Kimmie

Free shipping? I’d like to know more.

        • Neha

You can always get free shipping if you order through the In store Kiosk
Otherwise you can connect to Kohls wifi in store and place order on smartphone while connected

        • Mirela

Freeshipping.com – I use it all the time. You earn 10% cashback on purchases ( for xmas several retailers were 20%) and all shipping is free. ( earning up to $1000 a year ) You just need to forward email showing shipping fee. Ofcourse you must shop through their link. Oh and 10% cashback does not work with coupons other than those advertised on freeshipping.com website. For month of November I got check for over $180 and for December my payout will be close the same amount. All my Christmas shopping was done this way. Monthly fee is about $12 or $13…hope this helps.

          • LC

            Wow that’s sweet

  11. Mommyof5

    I ❤❤ kohls!

  12. Jo

I will no longer shop at Kohl’s. I spent a lot of money there for Christmas. I bought my son a nice Under Armor jacket. It was too big for him. I tried to exchange it, but several Kohl’s stores did not have any more of these jackets in stock. It was a $54.99 jacket on sale for $29.99. When I purchased, I redeemed cash and earned cash. I wanted to return the item and just purchase it online. They would only give me $7.50 for the jacket which they still advertised for $29.99. Needless to say, I will just keep the jacket until my son grows into it, but they have lost a customer with their poor customer service.

    • Queenjen87

Did you call customer service? If they have it in stock online you may find an agent nice enough to ship it to you for the 29.99 purchase (and they’ll likely give it to you with free shipping.) then return the too big one at the 29.99 purchase price. Make sense? They did this once for me on an item that I couldn’t find the correct size in store.

    • Robin

Did you earn Kohl’s cash on the purchase and had spent it before you returned it? They will deduct the KC from the price of the purchase if you return the item you earned it on.

    • ddich

I recently had an item I was trying to exchange and they didn’t have it in store but available in the size I needed online. The employee told me to order through the kiosk and when I get the new one return it and then even exchange it with the one I didn’t want since they will then have it in the store. Might be an option for you.

  13. Kelly K.

Wow!! thank you for all of the tips. I am new to Kohl’s and recently (early December) opened up a credit card there…I had no idea about most of these suggestions. Thanks!

  14. Sharon

I was just on hold with Kohl’s they said not to throw away your expired Kohl’s cash because they are good in stores only for up to ten days of expiration I had called because I got a broken plate and they did not have any replacements I told them I ordered two plates from the company who makes them and they refunded me the cost of the plates

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Glad to know Sharon!

  15. Sheila Turk

Don’t forget to check your discover card account. Most months if you log in and look at rewards you can get a $10 off $30 at Kohl’s.

  16. Fiona

You will not get the kohls cash if you are under $50…my store never gives the 10 if under 50

    • stephanie

I believe you are correct. I think that they have recently changed that. Even if it is 49.99 they won’t give you the kohl’s cash.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Darn! It seems that might vary by store as some still have been able to grab it.

  17. Shannon

I love kohls so much! Always unintentionally get mvc status. Probably double mvc after this Christmas with all the h2s deals!! 😂😂😂

  18. tipaye

Don’t forget to get your Yes2You Rewards account barcode scanned at checkout if shopping in store to earn points! You can find it on the app.

    • Lisa

Or if you forget to do the Yes2You rewards scan, just call their 1-800 number. Sadly, I’ve had to do that a number of times. 🙁

  19. Edy

I love Kohl’s my daughter too she loves the fact that we earn Kohl’s cash % off and reuse Kohl’s and earn rewards ,

  20. Vivian

I just park in their parking lot and use the app to purchase for free shipping. I think my store only takes 2 or 3 days expired Kohl’s cash. But if you return an item and you receive a Kohl’s cash (because you purchased it with Kohl’s cash in the first place) then they will not take expired one of those… I think they’re different colors or something.

    • A

I know some people that have a gps changer app (not sure what it’s called). They change their “location” to a kohls store and get free shipping that way. I’m not sure how it works since it doesn’t work with iPhones.

  21. Britt

Was so grateful for the grace period when I realized last month that I let $60 in Kohl’s Cash accidentally expire. I called customer service and the agent told me about the grace period. My store knew nothing about it so was surprised when it worked. They might say they don’t/won’t take expired cash but if it rings through at check out then they have to take it!

    • NJD

My store refused to even scan it because it was one day expired!😕

    • susan

I lost $180 kohls cash because of my delivery time and I wasn’t feeling well after having my baby I remembered it after 5 days I emailed the customer service they don’t help me or mention that I can use it in the store, I called them and it was the same thing no help so I through my cash back and limited my crazy shopping at Kohl’s, because any penny can make a difference and help when you have a new baby.

  22. Monica E.G.

I recently had $120 in Kohl’s Cash during the Christmas season. I didn’t realize it had expired on December 19th and not on the 25th as I had thought. I called my local store here in El Paso, TX and customer service told me as long as the computer can still find your kohl’s cash in their system when scanned, then they will accept it. I was purchasing online, so she told me a trick to go in and purchase an item for the full amount of kohl’s cash, and then just return it. She said because it is paid with Kohl’s Cash, they will just issue another Kohl’s Cash but in the color blue that will be good for another 30 DAYS! SCORE! I did just that and went in and purchased, returned, and received my KC in blue for $130 this time, since I had used 2 $5 anniversary coupons. Plus I was able to use that online to make my purchase of a new booster seat for my son, plus get extras using discount codes. DOUBLE SCORE!

    • brit

I do the same thing! Mine was expiring Sunday and I plan to return what I purchased to get more time to spend it

      • Susan

I did this, too, on Sunday!

  23. Steph

I got quite a bit of kohl’s cash, yes2you rewards and store pickup money when I purchased my husband’s Christmas gift. I went back in during the dates and could not for the life of me find ANYTHING to buy. Not only that, nothing was on sale beyond an occasional BOGO and there were no additional percentage off codes to use. And we all know Kohl’s “regular” prices are ridiculous! I finally went online and found something to order. I mean, I know they take the sales away during the kohls cash spending time on purpose, but as a bargain shopper I just can’t pay the prices, even with “free” cash (which it isn’t really).

    • brit

Next time buy whatever and you can then return it and they issue you Kohls cash good for 30 days. It’s a bit of a hassle but better than just spending it on something you don’t really want.

      • Steph

Great idea! Thank you. I’ll be sure to do that next time when the discounts start back up!

  24. Dmwnj28

I don’t find kohls cash to be valuable as much as before…last few months for online transactions my kohls cash would not register and it was not expired, forcing me to shop in store within a certain time or forfeit the value….I have lost much kohls cash this way

  25. Slk

If you buy something with your Kohl’s Cash and then return it, you’ll have 30 days to use that Kohl’s cash. So just buy something that you don’t need, and return it later when you’re ready to make a purchase.

  26. NJD

I do not shop Kohls anymore because of the Kohls cash. My Kohls cash was one day past expiration and my store refused to take it. I called customer service while in the store and was told there was a 10 day grace period but the store still refused to accept it. The customer service manager in store talked down to me and when I asked how to contact her boss about her attitude she handed me a complaint card and said to drop it in the box when finished.

    • Steph

Oh yes, I’m sure dropping it in the box she will then open and destroy right away would work. 🙂 All the more reason to maybe write in or contact corporate directly. Sometimes, the employees are practically the “manager” and your in store complaints don’t go very far.

  27. Rachel

Online for the kohls charge you can set it up to deduct the full amount on the due date if you don’t want to pay at the register to skip a potential late fee. I only have the credit card for the discounts and buy small items so after forgetting once and calling for a fee forgiveness, I set it it to auto deduct the total.

  28. Nana Donna 2 6

I’ve mentioned this before but to me worth repeating.

If you are a AAA member, you can log into Kohl’s from the AAA member website (discounts tab, may need to search for Kohl’s) after you sign into AAA. When you purchase online, a small percentage of your purchase will go towards your AAA membership renewal. It isn’t much, but does add up. JCPenney is also on their list.

    • marie

Would this be the same as using ebates or shop at home?

      • Nana Donna 2 6

Marie, I’m not sure. I don’t do either one of those programs. Maybe someone else will reply. I know I don’t need to upload any receipts as AAA will know what is being purchased and cost since you log into AAA and then connect to Kohls through their link and sign into Kohls as usual. Savings, if eligible, will be posted to your AAA account in several days. These will be applied to your next AAA membership fee. For more details, see the AAA website. HTH. (No direct cash back to you if that’s what you were wondering.)

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Thanks for the tip!

  29. Kerry

Both Kohls stores near me in NJ will not accept Kohls cash either after expiration date. I have been shopping with Kohls since 2001. I do have a Kohls charge, and use it all the time. When I applied for my charge I received no interest. The catch to that is if you carry a balance every month you have to pay 1/3 of the balance. On my statement it has two amounts a minimum and a amount to avoid interest. I was told recently by an associate not to ever cancel my card, because Kohls no longer offers that to new customers. Sometimes I carry a balance and sometimes I have a zero balance. My family has noticed Kohls has raised some of their prices. We have learned how not to pay full price for anything, and by applying coupons and discounts we receive a better deal! I love Kohls, but learned how not to overpay for anything!

I think 98% of my wardrobe comes from Kohls, so I’m always on the lookout for deals. Thanks for the article – there were some great tips that I wasn’t aware of! One other tip I’d suggest: whenever I shop on the Kohls website, I’ll always do a quick Google search to look for promo codes prior to checkout, to make sure I’m using the highest possible % off. The 2 best sites I found (other than Hip2Save) are https://www.dealsplus.com/kohls-coupons and https://www.retailmenot.com/view/kohls.com – they seem to have reliable recent coupon codes. Another tip – if you’re shopping for plus-size women’s clothing – the website seems to have a much larger selection than the stores do. So you can buy a bunch of options online and try them on in the comfort of your own home, and then just return anything that doesn’t work for you to the store. Last tip – if you’re ordering online, go to the Ebates website first, and you’ll earn cash back for all your purchases.

Every year, I get a coupon for my Kohl’s Credit Card anniversary. This year, I received an $18.00 coupon. I’m not sure if they do this with all cardholders, but I’m sure enjoying it!

    • Mel

they only sent that to MVC customers.

  32. Karen

    Hello,
I don’t ever open up my guest to you rewards or anything online, therefore, as I placed calls orders am I getting yes to you rewards??

  33. Mary

My kohls refused to honor the expired kohls cash as well. I called the cs number while at the cs counter in store and let the cashier talk to the rep on the phone. The manager came and was forced to re-issue the kohls cash to me instead.

I have zero complaints about Kohls. I get the best deals and have learned all the tricks from h2s. I have saved so much in the years. It is my go to place for before Christmas shopping. The customer service is stellar.

I love my kohl’s here in Iowa. I have never had problems with KC, returns, or even going back and getting KC if I made a purchase up to 7 days prior to KC promotion time. I just needed the receipt.

Ditto on my experiences with Kohls (and local Walmart) in Cedar Rapids.

Per number 9, you can make Kohl’s card payments with your debit card in store now. Did it last week!! On another note, anyone know when the next 30% will be?

I used to work at Kohls when I was in college and I know in my Michigan store they did not except expired Kohl’s cash. Maybe it’s only for certain locations.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

It does seem to vary by store. It appears some readers have been able to use their expired cash while others have not.

Joe mentioned she did not get the full refund she only receives $7.50 for her jacket that she bought for her son Joe just to be clear the reason why you were only going to receive $7.50 is because you already received Kohl’s cash that you used and you probably had a percentage off coupon so after they give you the Kohl’s cash if they given you the $29 back if you return the coat you didn’t earn enough money to receive the cold cash that you earned so in the future I hope you don’t give up on cold just remember to always do an even exchange for whatever the dollar amount of the item is and as far as these people on here saying they’re not using cold because of Kohl’s cash do you go to Macy’s do you go to Target do you go to Walmart do you go to Lane Bryant or any of these other big-name retailers and if you have the coupon ask them 6 months 2 months later 4 months later can you use the coupon no Cole’s was losing way too much money because I work there I had somebody come to the counter with $200 worth of from 2 years ago and at the time it was before they were skin and Kohl’s cash the manager accepted it but when people do things like this the purpose of giving Kohl’s cash is so you spend you get free money and you spend a little extra money so the business is still making money but if you accumulate your Kohl’s Cash over months and then come in and say you want to use it and that’s all you spend now the company hasn’t made any money they’re out of money basically now I’m not speaking for calls but I am saying that they did need to put stipulations on the expiration date of the Kohl’s cash because from my experience working there for over 8 years it was ridiculous how people try to abuse the Kohl’s cash it made it bad for us who do what we’re supposed to do

Also, if you connect to their wifi, shipping is free for your online order.

So many awesome tricks for shopping Kohls! I also do what Rachel does, I set my Kohls credit card to auto-pay on the due date online. That way it automatically pays the balance and I never pay interest or late fees. 😁😁😁

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

      Genius! 🙂

Hi there, former employee, left in 2017. Just thought I’d let y’all know kohls does not price match with Walmart. At all. I have talked to my former managers about it multiple times when I worked there. I know they price match with Macy’s and I believe Nordstrom, but not Target nor Walmart.

  43. Tracy Wilhelm

My Local Kohls won’t accept expired Kohls cash .Customer service extremely rude about it I had 65 dollars tried to use a few days late Nope.

  44. Shella

As a Kohls employee I would like correct a few statements that are not true. Expired Kohls cash is expired, a few years back they stopped honoring any grace period you speak of. During check out if the register will allow the Kohls cash to be applied we will accept it but do not do “over rides” any longer. Also the even exchange is true, but if it’s a clearance item you have to exchange it for a clearance item. Hence you CAN NOT buy a pair of shorts on clearance for $3 that were originally priced at $40 and exchange them for a different $40 item. It needs to be a clearance item that was originally priced at $40. If you use discounts and sales to by a item drastically reduced in price you can even exchange that for a regular priced item.

      Hi Shella,
When I was writing up this post, I had $10 Kohl’s Cash expire a couple months ago and I spoke with a customer service rep and they told me that I would be able to use the Kohl’s Cash in-store only for up to 10 days past the expiration date. I had no problems, but I wonder if it may vary by store?

  45. Julie palmer

Just used expired kohl’s cash at my kohl’s around Austin tx. The cashier actually told me I could go get it from my home if I would like and she would honor it. I had mentioned while checking out that I had fooled around and wasted my $40 kohl’s cash by letting it expire the day before and of course didn’t have it with me. Anyway they definitely honored it even though it was expired already.

  46. Angela Cates

    I got a Kohl’s charge card Nov.22 2017
    I haven’t received a bill.
How long does it take to get the first bill.

    • Beth

Angela- I would think it should arrive any day. Here is the number to the Kohls Card customer service. Might want to give them a call since your statement hasn’t arrived yet. Maybe they have your address wrong? I’d call, just in case. (855) 564-5748.

  47. Beth

Expired is expired. If your Kohls will accept your expired cash by a day or two, consider yourself blessed. There is an expiration date on the Kohl’s cash for a reason. Some Kohls will take it a few days late; some won’t. The store won’t be around if it doesn’t make money. Getting irritated that Kohl’s won’t accept your Kohl’s cash won’t change the fact that YOU let it expire. All retailers set expiration dates & as consumers, we have to respect them. Do you go to Costco and jump up and down when they tell you that price on the tv you wanted to buy expired yesterday is no longer valid or do you accept that you missed out? My grocery store doesn’t take expired coupons. If I missed the date- tough. I personally love Kohls and think it’s a great store. You get great deals when you use coupons- and, yes, that Kohls cash is just icing on the cake. I recommend getting the Kohls ap which can keep track of your Kohls cash and reminds you that it’s about to expire.

Always had very great service at kohls…the returns I did in customer service were done with a wonderful attitude and always answered my questions ,I’m a kohls shopper for life!! The battleground ,Greensboro nc kohls rocks!!!!

  49. Lynn

I love Kohls, it’s a one stop shop for everyone all year long. My KC did expire since 12/24, I’m ok about it because they have amazing deals and unique little gifts. I love their return policy. I bought a very small crib for my baby and she didn’t end sleeping in it. It stayed looking pretty in her new nursery. 1 year later, I still had my online receipt printed and Kohls honored my return no questions asked. I did not have the original box but I packed it very neatly with bubble with all pieces and instructions.

Did you know that if you had a Kohls gift card and had a 30% off coupon that required you to have a Kohls card you could still use that online? I’ve done it plenty of times and it works like a charm. The only caveat is that you need to have a Kohls card as the default payment first, and then use up the gift card. This works online. In the store they only allow you to use 1/2 of the purchase price by gift card (depending whoch personality is present at the register), and the rest be on the Kohls charge card.
