Look out Amazon! Walmart just announced its plans to offer free shipping to Sam’s Club members.

Sam’s Club memberships have simplified from three tiers to just two, the Sam’s Club membership, or the Plus membership , which offers more perks than a standard membership:

  • Sam’s Club membership (formerly Sam’s Savings): $45 per year
  • Plus membership: $100 per year

At just a dollar more than Amazon Prime’s $99 annual fee, Sam’s Club Plus memberships offer cash back on purchases, discounts on fuel and some prescriptions, and battery and tire repairs, alongside other benefits and NOW it includes FREE Shipping.

Will Sam’s Club now offer free two-day shipping like Amazon?

Not at this time, no.

In fact, there are still some restrictions to free shipping. Curbside pickup items, groceries, and products purchased via a third party won’t qualify for free shipping benefits.

Is there an order minimum for Sam’s Club free shipping?

Plus members: No. There are no order minimums for Plus members with an active membership. Some restrictions apply.

Sam’s Club members/Guest members: For Club members with an active membership (and guests with no membership), shipping costs will apply for most items based on size, weight, shipping method, and delivery address.

How do I know if I’m a Sam’s Club Plus member?

  1. Look at your physical membership card— or through your Sam’s Club App if you don’t have a physical card. If you’re a Plus member, your card will have a “Plus” label.
  2. Login into your SamsClub.com account or register your member number to a new account. Go to “Your Account” > “Membership.” Next to “Membership Type,” it will say either “Club” or “Plus.”

Is two-day shipping on the horizon?

While we can’t speak for Walmart, the retailer has also announced some of its 63 shuttered warehouses will become Sam’s Club distribution centers (the first center is expected to open in Memphis, Tennessee, sometime this spring).

With strategically placed warehousing in its supply chain, who knows? In Walmart’s efforts to keep up with its retail archenemy – Amazon, Sam’s Club two-day shipping could potentially be here sooner than we think.
