Calling all fashionable fitness fanatics!

Say that 5 times fast… Are you looking to get fit and save money? Loads of retailers are jumping on board to bring bright colors, fun patterns, and stylish designs to new affordable activewear lines that look great inside AND outside of the gym. In fact, this new activewear anytime trend is known as athleisure 🏋️‍♀️

Here are 6 of my FAVORITE affordable, functional, and downright adorable activewear lines.

1. Old Navy

save on old navy active workout apparel hip2save

Yup, the same Old Navy where you get $1 flip-flops and cheap trendy clothes just happens to be home to one of the greatest activewear lines I’ve experienced. Following the hottest patterns and styles for the season, they’ve flawlessly combined top-performing fabrics with SUPER cute styles!

Favorite Pieces:
High-Rise Compression Legging $30 | Crossback Keyhole Tank $15 | Medium Support Sports Bra $20

Style: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Function: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hip Tip: Old Navy is great for picking up popular trends for WAY cheap, like these High-Rise Moto Compression Leggings that look very similar to this crazy popular (and crazy expensive) pair of moto-style leggings from Alo!

2. Target

joylab activerwear at target is fashionable and functional

I’m really sorry if this just made your Target run a little more expensive, but the quality and pricing of Target’s lines are the perfect combination. You can expect to find lots of adorable styles by JoyLab and C9 by Champion – both offering on-trend and budget-friendly workout gear. AND always keep your eyes peeled for clearance finds!

Favorite Pieces:
JoyLab High-Rise Scalloped Leggings $40 | JoyLab Cozy Layering Sweater $25 | C9 Medium Support Seamless Sports Bra $20

Style: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Price: ⭐⭐⭐ | Function: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

3. Forever 21

forever21 chic activewear hip2save

In a sea of crop tops and tiny-fitting everything, you CAN find some awesome workout options at Forever 21! They follow a lot of trends and styles from uber-popular fitness brands *cough* Lululemon *cough*, giving you the ability to score similar designer pieces at a fraction of the cost.

Their return policy isn’t the greatest (you can only return in exchange for store credit) so DEFINITELY try before you buy. Also, in my experience, the website can be easier to navigate than the store, so try on several items in-store to get a feel for your optimal size, then order online if you don’t feel like combing through clothing racks.

Favorite Pieces:
Active High Tech Leggings $23 | Active Racerback Tank $13 | High Impact Sports Bra $13

Star Rating out of 5
Style: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Function: ⭐⭐⭐

Hip Tip: If you do feel like splurging on Lululemon, Collin LOVES the Align Pant: “They’re like butter, they ride high, and make me feel oh so comfy!”

4. Gap

gapfit workout gear from gap hip2save

Sister-store to Old Navy (which is at the top of this list), Gap offers a bit of a step up as far as style goes, ranging from tech-focused running pieces to super cute yoga and ballet styles. There is a bump in the pricing, but you can often find promo codes and sales ranging from 20% – 50% off. Basically, you should never feel you need to pay full price for their chic activewear!

Favorite Pieces:
Running Shorts $23 | Breathe Open-Back Tank $24 | Breathe Low-Impact Sports Bra $25

Star Rating out of 5
Style: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Price: ⭐⭐⭐ | Function: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

5. TJ Maxx / Marshall’s

activewear at marshalls with designer brands and budget prices

If you love shopping for clothing, home decor, specialty foods, and endless knick-knacks all in one place, you’ll find yourself at a TJ Maxx or Marshall’s. In my area, while both seem to offer a similar selection as far as fitness apparel goes, I tend to find more options at Marshall’s. Prefer shopping from home? TJMaxx.com is where it’s at!

I LOVE TJMaxx workout clothing! They sell various brands like adidas, Nike, Reebok, etc. for SO CHEAP! And they always have new, stylish stuff!

6. Walmart

If it’s one place that has literally everything, it’s Walmart! We’ve been loving on them lately with our Walmart Wednesday series, and we adore the Danskin suede leggings. Through a helpful reader tip, we’ve now discovered the Danskin Dri-More leggings are just as amazing! I mean, check out those incredible reviews! Don’t forget to scour the clearance section too – you’re bound to find great markdowns on their already low-priced activewear!

I love my old navy high rise compression leggings. They check all the boxes: super comfortable, they come in a variety of lengths including tall, and they aren’t see through! I have a bunch of VS compression tights that I paid twice as much for (maybe more!) and I much prefer my old navy ones.

    • Emily (Hip2Save Sidekick)

So glad to hear that, Kim! I actually have some Old Navy high-rise compression pants on right now — I LOVE them!

  2. LC

I was going to say the same thing! I LOVE my high waisted compression leggings. Great quality too!

  3. Kelly

Gap on sale is amazing!! But I love some Walmart work out deals for under $10!

  4. Olgraygirl

Yep, Old Navy has long been one of my faves for activewear–even supportive (and often expensive) sports bras. There are frequent sales, too. And Walmart not only has the Danskin line, but Avia as well–many bargains there!

  5. kymo

Anyone know of a brand of work out tanks or shirts that are just a bit longer to cover the front and bum? I’m just now comfortable w my butt outlined for the world to see, lol

    • Erin

I’d like feedback on this, too! I have a super looooong torso, and I just can’t find shirts that don’t show my belly when I raise my arms, not to mention ones that would actually cover my booty! Any other long-waisted gals know where to point me??

    • Katie

I’ve bought a few items from old navy in tall rather than regular and they covered much more!

  6. Pattyd

I also like the Avia brand at Walmart.
I use their compression shorts for running and they are super comfortable and they come in XS.
    Priced around $13

    • ticklemaddie

      I love Avia too 🙂

  7. *Angela-Miles*

I’m gonna have to check out the old navy compression leggings. I love bright colors and wearing workout gear regularly Lol. My favorite has been Walmart danskin and C9 from Target. Thanks for the tips 🙂 🙂

  8. Christine

I was pleasantly suprised to find affordable workout clothing at Nordstrom Rack! I love the Zella brand that Nordstrom carries and Nordstrom Rack had a great selection. They also carry Nike and Addidas. I wasn’t too interested in those lines, but the Zella brand was only $24.99 for fantastic leggings.

    • KC

I agree Zella is my fave leggings!!!

  9. Alison Matalanis

Make sure to check Costco as well. I found a 2 pack of Puma sports bras for $15. They are great quality and a good price!

  10. Tiffany

Although most of my workout attire has come from VS (using coupons and sales of course) I do LOVE and have gotten several compliments when I wear Old Navy attire. Great prices, sales, fit, fabrics, colors and patterns!!

  11. Amber

I love this post and would love to see more like it! I had a c section in October and back surgery in January, and I’ve been in physical therapy at least three times a week for all of 2018. I’ve been living in comfy athleisure and am ready for some new pieces that won’t kill my budget 😀

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks for the feedback, Amber! I’ll be sure to pass it along to the team.
