I never heard of her so I searched her name. I guess that’s the point, to highlight bold women. Good for Mattel, bringing substance to Barbie. I’d like to have the Amelia Earhart and Katherine Johnson dolls.
I just think it’s ironic they are doing this because she, as a person, would HATE this. While she lived in America she hated it and the commercialization (not just in this but in using her image on tote bags and whatnot) of her image goes against everything she stood her

I did a report on her in HS (18 years ago!) and I would not consider her an inspiring figure to any of my daughters. She is not the type of person I want my daughters to look up to. Sorry…but this is not interesting or inspiring to me. anyone else??
I consider her an inspiration and am happy with how Coco portrayed her but she would not like this, at all. And this doll is way too pretty to represent her. Not nice to take away her character and reality.
Frida Kahlo had a lot happen to her, and had to struggle with those issues, as many of the great artists did. But she was an original, authentic person and a creative genius. Even though Frida got a Barbie makeover, I would rather have my child play with a doll based on a real person than the traditional Barbies I played with as a child, which were hyper-stylized, cruelly unattainable representations of a female body. No wonder so many of us have body issues!

I’ll never understand the fascination with her. I think she was a talented artist. That’s it. She was not necessarily a good person or anyone young girl should look up to.
I’m a huge Frida fan, thanks for sharing!! Her art is amazing. She didn’t live the happiest of lives and died young. Too bad they didn’t do her signature eyebrows but the outfit is nice. I love her traditional Mexican rebozo, (shawl). My grandmother from Mexico gave me a few.
I am a huge fan as well…. I also would have loved this doll to have the signature eyebrows….she is pretty though, as to being beautiful like the real Frida…. viva la vida!!!!!

She has a unibrow. It wasn’t always dark and thick. That grew with time. Ive been studying her looks recently and I think they nailed it.
This is such a cool doll! I love the concept of making dolls after historical figures.
Originally she looked different but the descendants of Frida Kahlo sued Mattel for not having authorization to use her likeness and make money off of it……..and Mattel lost the “dispute”. If you can find the original doll that was released with the uni-brow it will be worth more money. 🙂

Doll has a uni-brow in last photo on Amazon. I personally like many things about Frida as she overcame so many obstacles (especially for that time in history), was genuine to herself & others, openly defied traditional beauty standards, gained international recognition for her art…all while maintaining her own unique sense of grace.
