Joanna Gaines' biscuit recipe is everything I had hoped (here cutting round biscuits).

Love homemade buttermilk biscuits?

I recently tried Joanna Gaines’ biscuit recipe from her cookbook Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering, and of course (as you can imagine) they are AMAZING!

Super flaky, buttery, fall-apart, worth-getting-up-early-to-bake, AH-MAZ-ING.
Seriously though, I read she spent a year perfecting her recipe, and I believe it!

Hip Tip: If you’re looking for a low carb version, be sure to check out our keto biscuits recipe on Hip2Keto.com!

My family LOVES Jojo’s biscuits!

Eat them plain or with your favorite jam and they’re good to go!  My family was super impressed! I even heard things like “heaven”, “delish”, “so yummy”, “Did you make these?”, and “Can I have more?”

I consider this a mom win!

These biscuits were fairly easy to make!

The basic process for this homemade buttermilk biscuit recipe involves combining all ingredients into one bowl, pressing the dough on a floured surface, and then cutting your biscuits using a biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a baking sheet and bake. Super easy!

Get the full recipe and directions HERE.

In fact, EASY recipes with SIMPLE ingredients seems to be the theme of the whole cookbook!

Magnolia Table is full of family-friendly recipes that I can’t wait to try (like Joanna’s grandfather’s Syrian Donuts, her friend Becki’s Mac & Cheese, Layered Arugula Salad, 1919 Pimiento Cheese from Magnolia Table Restaurant, and so many more)!  I also loved reading about her family traditions and how she shares her most cherished recipes. Food is super personal, and Joanna does a lovely job sharing personal family stories and her love of food.

Nope, Jojo isn’t paying me to post about her awesome cookbook – I just love it and had to share!

The After School Banana Bread was YUMMY, too!

This was the first recipe I tried from Magnolia Table recently, and it was delicious as well! I had all the ingredients on hand, and it was easy to make. My family enjoyed this recipe!

Where can I buy Magnolia Table?

I’m sad to say that there’s not any deals or promos currently running. You can grab the hardcover book from Target for $17.99, and you’ll score some exclusive content and 7 extra recipes! A couple other buying options: Amazon and Walmart, also priced at $17.99.

Here’s a fun gift idea!

Any fan of Fixer Upper or Joanna Gaines would love the Magnolia Table cookbook by itself, or wrapped up with a set of baking pans, Hearth & Hand napkins, and a set of biscuit cutters! So fun for a wedding gift, housewarming, or a birthday surprise.

Thank you so much for leaving this review! I was dying to know how the biscuits were and now will have to try making them myself.

    • Lina D

You will love, I just know it!

  2. lynnleco

Do you or anyone have the banana bread recipe? Thanks

    • LisaLyn

lynnleco, do a google search for “Janet’s Rich Banana Bread.” It has sour cream in it, so odd for me initially; but now, it is my “go-to” recipe for banana bread. Happy Baking.

      • Mel

I absolutely LOVE that recipe. It is hands down the BEST banana bread recipe. It’s in my “keeper” cookbook collection!
The sour cream I think is what makes (and keeps) it moist. Cooking time is 60 mins, but I start checking about 45 minutes in and usually pull it out. Perfect every.single.time!

AFA Jo’s banana bread, I saw some friends pin her recipe, so I’m sure if you google search, it’ll come up.

        • Lisalyn

Thanks, Mel, for confirming I am not the only one who loves that recipe!

          • dealzgurl

Thanks! I was just wondering this week about a good banana bread recipe to try. The last one I did wasn’t very good.

      • 50ShadesofLipstick

Like buttermilk, sour cream adds richness but also moisture to baked goods- since it activates the baking soda and gives it its leavening ability. 🙂

      • Janet

This is my favorite banana bread recipe! It comes out perfect every time.

      • teamdrake2009

        My fave recipe as well!

I love Fixer Upper! I’m going to Waco in a couple weeks to visit the silos and their restaurant. Any suggestions or tips from anyone who has been? Any recommendations for other things to do while in Waco?

    • Shannon

I went a few weeks ago. My mom and I arrived around 11.30 and said we were fine with seating in the community room which decreased our wait from 1.5 hours to 45 minutes. They have a lot of outside, shaded seating and the shop is cute so the time goes by fast. My mom and I shared the pimento cheese sandwich and Chip’s sandwich then got the chocolate pie which was kind of like a chess chocolate pie. I grew up in Waco so seeing the changes in The Elite was part of my experience as well. If you go to the Silos, parking is challenging. You can park at the City Hall downtown and take a free shuttle to the Silos. Near City Hall you should also do Spice Market which has vendors selling lots of things. Have fun.

      • Karen

If you like antique shopping, go to McGregor (about 20 mins from Waco) and go to the Cedar Chest. That is where Jo does a lot the antique shopping.

        • Lori

We live about 40 minutes from Waco. Cedar Chest is one of my favorite antique stores.

    • Lina D

I’m so jealous! Have a blast!

    • Crissy

Homestead Heritage is a neat place to visit while you are in the area.

I picked up a copy of the book at Sam’s about a week ago. We have made the potato soup, enchiladas with rice & chicken salad- they were delicious. I wasn’t a big fan of the dedication Casserole.

    • Lina D

      Thanks for sharing!

  15. Tina

Thanks, I needed an idea for a housewarming gift and this is perfect. Got it for 16.99 at Costco.

    • Lina D

      Oh sweet!

  16. Susan Deveau

I looked at Magnolia Table the other day. I still may buy it, but I wish it was bound so it would lie flat. I’d hate to ruin the spine trying to hold it open so I can follow the recipes. But, I love Chip and Joanna, so I’ll probably take a chance.

    • Lina D

Ya luckily my stand is wide enough to hold it open, but I do see what you mean. Doesn’t stay open by itself.

    • Susie

I have had success with using a large binder clip.

  17. KathyR

Thank you for this post. I read her book and was curious about the cookbook. I had a $5 no rush shipping credit so I ordered the cookbook after reading all the comments!

    • Lina D

      Awesome! Enjoy!

  18. Mariedalzell

I have the cookbook and so far I’ve tried the Chicken Spaghetti and Raspberry Chipotle Pork – both amazing!

    • Lina D

That’s so great! I want to try now 👍

  19. ann

Do I need to buy a biscuit cutter?

    • Nicole S.

I have cut them out with a glass or a clean can from veggies or such.

    • Paige

No, you can use a glass. That’s what I do.

    • ann

      Thanks!

  20. Linea

Barnes and Noble sent an email with a 20% Friends and Family coupon that would make the cost there pretty reasonable.

  21. MrsFelix1004

Oh sooooo yummy! Especially with freezer jam!!

  22. Debbie

I got my book too! So many great ideas. I’ve been dying to try the biscuits and banana bread. Those will be on my cheat days for dieting.

  23. Kd

How healthy are the recipes in the book? Thanks

    • Lina D

I would say mostly comfort type food, but definitely some salads and a few lighter meals too.

My home was damaged by Harvey and we are about a week away from moving back in with a dream kitchen. My daughter gave me her cookbook and an oak serving tray as a gift for Mothers Day. I can’t wait to display her cookbook but more importantly, try some of her recipes!

    • Lina D

      How nice! Enjoy 😉

  27. Shirley Shouse

The biscuits are wonderful but, the temperature should be 500. Tried recipe first at 400, then at 500, 500, taller browner biscuits.

  28. Summer Bishop

My kids gave them this cookbook for Mother’s Day and I am super excited to try the recipes. So glad the biscuits turned out so easy and yummy! Cant wait to get started!

These are the best! My family loves them. They freexe well too. Ive started making them and freezing , prior to baking. I take a few out at a time and bake. So delicious

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That’s such a great tip! Thanks for sharing 😀

  31. Shirley Butler

Oh my goodness! I have been making biscuits for over 50 years but I must say, “I surely wish I had this recipe years ago to make for my two children. They loved my biscuits, bot Joanna’s recipe takes biscuits to another level.” Thank you for sharing ur recipes, Joanna! I just think you & Chip are the greatest & I have so much admiration for both of you… you are so great at ALL you two do! If I ever get to Waco, I hope to visit all of ur establishments. My son lives in Austin & I’ve talked so much to him about all y’all do, hopefully he’ll be able to check out ur restaurant.
    Love y’all!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks so much for sharing and I’m so glad you enjoyed!!

  32. Kaye Sexton

I have been making biscuits for over 50 years and I will have to say these are the worst biscuits I have ever made and/or tasted. A crumbly mess of something that taste like a really bad yellow cake with no sugar.

  33. Tammy

What temperature do you set the oven for the biscuits?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      400 degrees – hope that helps 👍

  34. Joyce A. S

I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF adding extra soda and baking powder to self rising flour. that’s the advantage of using self rising flour instead of reg flour. Seems like it would be too much leavening agents.
