Please do not buy these books. Francis Chan’s theology ranges from questionable to down right heretical. If you want solid Biblical teaching for free, I would highly recommend Grace To You at gty, org.
Francis Chan has solid Bible-based teaching. I would not classify him as heretical. He is a challenging and Christ-centered speaker and writer. If you are looking to learn more about the Christian faith or desire to grow in your faith, he would be a great author to look into. (Note: I have a bachelors in Bible and currently working on a masters in bible).
I’ve heard similar assessments of Chan’s work–perhaps started out seemingly solid, but becoming progressively more questionable over time. Thank you for the suggestion, Brandon. John MacArthur’s “MacArthur Study Bible” is highly recommended by several people I know.
I agree with Jac. From what I understand, Francis Chan started out solid since he went to Master’s Seminary and then he progressively became more liberal over time. Now he’s hanging out with the NAR crowd and I’m afraid he is leading many astray with his current ministry. That being said, I second your recommendation. GTY.org is a great resource and I love listening to the sermons daily. I’ve been blessed to be able to sit under Pastor MacArthur’s ministry and highly recommend his Study Bible as well. Other great resources include: Wretched.org (Todd Friel) and Heart Cry Ministry (Paul Washer).
Just curious — what is the NAR crowd? What does NAR stand for?
Hi Josie,
NAR stands from the New Apostolic Reformation movement or the Third Wave movement. It’s a heretical movement that is gaining a lot of ground recently. Here is more information on them: https://bereanresearch.org/dominionism-nar/
Interesting. I have only heard positives about him, but I will look more into it. I bought the books thinking they would be good, but will be careful. Thanks! Love the MacArthur daily bible I have.
I absolutely loved Crazy Love and recommend it to anyone! Haven’t read the others
I absolutely admire Francis Chan’s heart for God. He practices what he preaches.
Thank you for sharing this deal! He’s so passionate and inspiring. He has such a refreshing view on Christ/Christianity.
We just finished his You & Me Forever study and loved it! His teaching was solid Biblically and we found the study to be a good challenge to our perspectives.
With anyone you want to compare their words to the Holy Bible, and Francis Chan seems like a really good resource in God.
Feel free to buy the books and expectingly and lovingly pray to God before you read them, asking Him to show you what He wants you to get out of the reading in the name of Jesus Christ.
