I am so excited about this new site!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      So happy to hear that!

  9. CaseyB

Can you really do Keto if you are lactose intolerant and do not eat much meat??

    • Erika

Absolutely! The integration of dairy into everyday cooking is very much a Western thing. And there are large portions of the world that do not eat meat or consume dairy, and they are still able to eat healthy. The key to your success might be looking to international cuisine influences instead of trying to make many complicated/expensive substitutions within American recipes.

  10. jilcatt

Hope that means you’ll post less about it here. Glad you found a lifestyle that works for you, but I’m not interested, so those posts just seemed annoying. So no offense and never wanted to complain, but glad you found a p

    • Jane

      Agreed!

    • Mel

Only you can make yourself annoyed over a post 🙂 Posts that I am not interested in.. I just scroll right over. Like Amazon. And there are TONS of those posted daily! I’m glad this blog is more than deals. While not 100% Keto, I have tried several of the recipes and the fat head dough is a big hit for hubby and I.

    • Nicole221

Why be rude?! Just scroll over what doesn’t interest you! What is wrong with people now days, common courtesy is gone. Thank you for ALL you do Hip2Save team!

    • Dylan Fan

No one said you had to read them.

    • jilcatt

Not trying to be rude, just saying thanks for there being a separate site, since there does seem to be a lot of people excited about the Keto diet. No rudeness intended, actually the iopposite. Saying the truth doesn’t = being rude.

      • Tia

Still trying to figure out why people can’t post an opinion. I do scroll past those posts, but I understand her point as this is a deal site. Perhaps a lifestyle blog is in the works as well.

      • Mary

I agree with you and I do not think you are being rude at all, just posting your opinion. I guess others don’t know how to comprehend the difference between the two. Keto is not for me but I’m glad others will benefit greatly from this new Keto website.

      • jen

You sound like (a very rude) guy I used to date. Just because something is true *to you* doesn’t mean it isn’t also rude/mean/inappropriate. That’s just what jerky people say to justify their rudeness.

    • Melissa

I don’t think her post was rude by any means. I’m a nutritionist, and I’m not personally a proponent of the keto diet. I could go into the many, many reasons why— but this simply isn’t the place for it. When I’ve seen the keto posts on Hip2Save, I too have been a little off put. Not because they make me angry, offended, or anything of that nature. They just seem out of place. This is a couponing website about saving— that’s why I come here, personally! Not keto diet recipes and/or tips. Indeed, I do just simply scroll past and enjoy the many other valuable posts. But I am likewise glad Collin is creating a separate website for it. That way, she can delve into those two niches separately however she sees fit, and if people want deals, they’ll come here; if they want keto stuff, they’ll go there.

      • Becky

Well said. I do low carb but not keto (many reasons that I won’t go into here either)

      • Tina

Totally agree with you. This diet should be taken seriously and be following by a nutritionist. Surprising how nowdays people just create websites promoting diets just because they tested themselves.

      • Marie

Yes I totally agree. This site has changed way to much. It used to be the go to site for anything deal related. But there are just to many things that do seem out of place. May sound corny but I used to like the almost one on one feel to the site. But that is gone.

    • Ashley

Agreed!! We’re here to learn about saving money and finding good deals, not some fad high fat diet.

    • Sheila

I actually appreciate these types of posts. The Keto diet is definitely not for me. However, I would never have even known about it had it not been posted here. Can’t wait to try the Fathead pizza dough for my Gluten intolerant husband. I love it when there are recipe and home making posts by Lina especially around special holidays and events like the Super bowl. Or posts about substituting Christmas gifts for a family vacation. (Not something I would personally do but the ideas under comments are great). These things are what make Hip2save more my style vs the other deal sites.

  11. rpearson

    So excited!

  12. Colorado Amy

I don’t follow a Keto diet but I enjoy trying new low carb recipes. I really like the Fat Head pizza dough. I’m excited to try the easy Fat Bombs above.

  13. Hana

Love you all. Four months on Keto and down 40 pounds!

    • Lucy

      Congratulations Hana!

    • Kimberly (Stylish Sidekick)

OH WOW! Congratulations, Hana! That’s an incredible accomplishment! Keep it up! <3

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      WOW!! BIG Congrats Hana! 🙌

  14. Donna

Are chocolate candy bars like Hershey Keto friendly?
What exactly in the ingredients section on the label do you look for to know it’s okay for the Keto food program?

    • Denise

Here’s a primer for you https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto. Because you get only 20 carbs a day, Hershey’s wouldn’t be on the list of acceptable foods. I use Hail Merry as a treat once a week instead, but I’m going to start making my own soon.

    • Kaity D

Oh! There actually is a super tasty chocolate bar that’s keto- Lily’s. You can get it at Whole Foods or other natural grocers. They are generally 8-10 net carbs for the whole bar. My favorite is the caramelized and salted milk chocolate bar.

  15. lilmamajoey

Yay!!! Thanks so much; love user friendly/ easy to follow resources!! Just signed up 😉

    • Kimberly (Stylish Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome, lilmamajoey!

  16. Grey

This is awesome – also awesome would be an all Mexican food site called Hip2quito, lol!

    • Kimberly (Stylish Sidekick)

      LOL! LOVE it, Grey! 😂

    • Monica

Keto diets are temporary solutions only recommended for epileptic patients and are not safe for the long term.

      • EndLessLuv

Yes, keto diet doesn’t sound very right. Just go Paleo people and go easy on the junk food.

        • Kaity D

A lot of keto-ers actually follow a primal/paleo diet. The only difference is replacing sugar-laden maple syrup and honey with natural 0 carb sweeteners like erythritol and stevia. I personally love cheese more than life so paleo is out of the question for me!

      • Denise

My doctor was the one to recommend Keto to me, actually. She’s been on it for over 10 years

      • Rochelle

Agreed. It’s unpopular to say, but I’m skeptical of any diet that goes to extremes in ruling out whole food groups, particularly because they’re generally unsustainable for the vast majority of people.

    • Christina

      Hip2quito 😂

    • Monica

Low carb diets are not the same as ketogenic.

  17. Scarlet B

    How fun!

  18. Selena

Love this… I have been researching and following some of the principles of keto… I haven’t been strictly keto at all and have lost almost 25 lbs in 3 months. What matters most is that I feel better and don’t get hangry ….lol. Unfortunately, this won’t help my hip2save obsession any.

    • Denise

Selena..i tried full on keto for approx 2 weeks, but it was difficult for me to stay with..I would love to know how you are working the plan and not adhering to it fully. Maybe that’s what I need to try. Thank you!

      • Mel

My hubby and I do 80/20. I have lost and kept the weight off by switching to this than being 100% paleo or keto. Hubby and I did paleo for almost a year, several years ago. We recently tried Keto, but it wasn’t happening! I think we gave up about 2 months in. 80/20 works for us and I don’t feel deprived or bad for eating a carb heavy meal from time to time (like going out to eat on Mother’s Day!)
Basically 80% of our meals consist of low to no carbs, but allow 20% in carbs for things like rice, beans, bread, potatoes, fruit. If I want a bagel for breakfast, then I won’t have heavy carbs for lunch or dinner. Since I had a slice of avocado toast for breakfast, I had lettuce wraps for lunch and dinner was a BLT salad and meatballs with zoodles (spiralized zucchini that I baked in the oven) instead of pasta. I drink A LOT of water and un-sweet iced green tea. I don’t buy crackers or cookies, but will buy chocolate and tortilla chips every now and then. Moderation being the key. Oh and I also keep track of everything I eat with my phone’s health app.

Coffee is my only downfall. I have tried various 0 sugar sweeteners, stevia, and it makes my coffee blechhh. So I went back to putting 1-2 tsp of sugar with half n half. sometimes I’ll ‘splurge’ and buy a flavored creamer, Coffee Mate Mocha is my favorite.
It’s also important to get moving! I do some sort of exercise video every day and dh and I go walking after dinner every night.

      • Selena

Denise, I haven’t jumped into keto headfirst. I am daunted at the thought of making the keto breads, fat bombs etc. I guess I am doing more towards lazy keto. I just feel that some of the principles have given me some guidelines of foods to avoid and daily goals other than calorie counts to strive for. The science behind the diet itself makes sense to me, so TRYING to stay around 20 or so carbs daily. I really feel that avoiding certain foods, sugar and sugary sodas, (which I switched for diet ones, I know… bad too,) and eating more protein has helped the most. Not having my glucose levels all over the place makes me feel better and less hungry. I am not particularly eating high fat, since I have fat to burn lol.

        • Denise

          Thanks so much Selena!

  30. Denise

I have to be honest..I couldn’t understand the macros.. may be someone could explain how to do that..tx!

    • vmm

not sure exactly what you’re struggling with but the basic deal is that you typically aim for 5% of your daily calorie intake to be from carbs, 20% of calories from protein, and 75% of calories from fat. with that said, most Keto-ers don’t really track calories. they focus on keeping carbs below 20grams and on having about twice as many grams of fat as proteins…which if calculating percentages of calories, is about right on.
i’d recommend reading this page: https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/page/KetoDiet-Buddy and entering your personal body info to get a calculated recommendation for goals for each day. just remember, the carb number is a limit, the protein is a goal and the fat is a lever…it helps your body learn to use fat as a fuel source. it also keeps you full. it takes a few weeks to a few months(for some) to get your body to rely on fats for energy rather than spikes in insulin produced by carbs(that processs is called becoming fat adapted). your body then learns to feel satiated and the cravings really do go away on this…like I’ve never experienced before. I have never ever used the word empowered before I started eating this way a year and a half ago and realized how much control food really had over me. once I was fat adapted, I felt empowered for the first time in my life and honestly, never thought about food other than knowing in needed to make sure I had enough green veggies, eggs and avacados (and usually even cheesecake fluff) in my fridge to eat when I knew I should…I’m rarely hungry and snacking is not an issue anymore. its been amazing.
there’s a lot of great info online and the science behind this way of living is there…is proven…and makes sense!
      Best of luck to you.

  31. Buckeyemom

I have been doing Keto for over 3 years now & I haven’t felt better! I lost over 50 pounds the first year & have been able to maintain. After 4 kiddos & being in my 40’s, I wouldn’t change a thing! I have my regular blood work done each year & all of my numbers are perfect. I don’t track macros anymore since I “know the ropes”, so to speak. A lot of my family & friends have also adopted this woe.

    • Nicole

I want to do this diet but how do you calculate your macros??

      • Buckeyemom

Give it a quick Google. There are charts that are so easy to follow…based on your weight & height. It will tell you the range for each; protein, fat, calories & carbs.

  32. Les

This couldn’t come at a better time!!!!!!! My husband and I are starting on this and are looking for cost effective ways of doing it! He’s on Day 7 and is already feeling AMAZING 😉 Thank you!

    • Kimberly (Stylish Sidekick)

YAY! Perfect timing! I’m sure you will both enjoy all of the recipes and resources so you can keep up the Keto way of life! 😀

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      🙌🎉😃

  36. camila

How can you all do this. I have tried so many times to be on Keto, but I just gave up, I was hungry and cranky…at the end I just binged on carbs. How did you start and stayed with it?

    • Tia

I did Atkins years ago. Preparation is key. You must ALWAYS have something low-carb with you. If you get caught out there and need something fast, it’s very hard to stick to.

    • 🌺Nolee🌺

For me, the first couple weeks were rough. You are literally going through withdrawals. I had the Keto flu. But once I got through that, it was amazing. Cravings are little to none. Totally manageable. And I eat so much less because I’m not hungry all the time. Carbs keep you hungry; fat keeps you full.

    • vmm

most important for me was having things available early on that I don’t have regularly anymore. CHOCOLATE & CHEESECAKE! So you don’t feel like you’re missing out. buy a bag of what seem like ridiculously priced Lily’s Chocolate chips & a bag of confectioners Swerve (Festival foods has them and many groceries or just online). the key to sticking with it is getting enough fats to feel full, while staying away from the old habitual carbs. for me, that meant mixing a 1/2 cup of whipping cream with a cup of cream cheese, some vanilla & lemon juice and a couple tablespoons of Swerve….cheesecake fluff! a 1/3 cup of this stuff is a fantastic treat/snack and keeps you full for hours. I actually keep a bag of Lily’s chips in my desk at work and just grab a couple a few times a day as a little chocolate fix….some days, I have a lot more than that:) I’m not a fan of stevia and lily’s are made with stevia but still ok with me.

planning is super helpful. Also, keep it simple. Salad with ranch and a piece of chicken and 1/2 avocado is surprisingly filling and easy. eggs and bacon…any time of the day…multiple times of the day! good quality hotdogs are a nice quick option too. I love using swerve to make candied pecans (lots of butter and heavy whipping cream for more fats in there) then adding a few to my spinach salad with some bacon, avocado and a cut up strawberry. or green beans sauted in bacon grease or butter. chicken & broccoli alfredo …skip the noodles…add a crushed up piece of bacon…mmm:)

message me if you still need help or ideas or just support. its been a game changer for me…I feel 20 years younger(and i’m only 41)!
      vboos @Hotmail .com

    • vmm

ALSO and very important: take magnesium and potassium supplements, especially at first…it helps your body adjust so you don’t get the dreaded Keto-flu!

and eat all the dill pickles you want:)

    • *Angela-Miles*

I was hungry and cranky also camila! Its definitely not for me. But I don’t red meat very much and no pork, I just didn’t want to deal with finding substitutes all the time and such. If it works for others though that’s great! 🙂

  37. Chris

Thanks for this post. I have been trying to eat low carb and it’s been difficult finding different recipes I like.

  38. Jenn

This is very timely for me… it’s time to make a change. I watched your old video with your dad, he’s awesome! I ordered the book, can’t wait! Question: Your dad talked about an app he loved called bevRage, I can’t find it in the app store. Did it change names? Thanks!!!

  39. jackjill2004

Does anyone else struggle with hair loss when on a keto diet? I feel great and lose weight while eating keto by my hair starts to fall out with the first 1-2 weeks of the diet. I have heard this is a common symptom?

    • v

I did too! not that soon but by 6 months in, my hair was noticeably thinner…like half the size ponytail i’d always had before(thankfully thick hair originally) I saw some interesting videos from Dr Berg about this. he’s got a ton of great ones from an MD’s perspective on a variety of topics. just google “dr berg keto hair loss” or something like that and you’ll find it.
I went off it for a few months and I have tons of baby hair/regrowth now but i’m back to keto and taking more supplements so hopefully not the case anymore.
oh and hairloss is also fairly common when experiencing major weight loss…but not within 2 weeks, of course.

  40. Mrs.W

I will have to check this out! I don’t do keto but my husband is gluten intolerant so the “fat head pizza” was a win for me! Thanks for all you do!😁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome. And yes, “fathead” pizza ROCKS – love it! 😋

  41. Shae

I love this!! Thank you ; I’ve lost 35 with Keto and trying for 50 more this lifestyle is amazing ; thank u for this !!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Wow! That’s awesome! CONGRATS! 🎉

  42. Melissa

As a nutrition counselor, I don’t personally advocate the keto diet. Moreover, I am somewhat troubled that this website is rolling out with such an already built-in widespread audience with what seems to be no input whatsoever from a registered dietician and/or a medical professional. Glad there is a teeny tiny disclaimer that you’re not doctors, but you could also very easily do your due diligence to get a team member qualified to speak about nutrition involved in your new project. One of the hardest part of my jobs as a nutrition counselor is UN-TEACHING what unqualified people have already taught others, unfortunately. It can very often be dangerous and lead to unfortunate consequences for people who are simply trying to live healthier lives, yet listening to the wrong people’s advice.

  43. Jessica

I’m excited to use this as a go to source I have been doing weight watchers and ugh I hate myself because I can’t seem to catch on to it and of course I have not lost any weight either !! I work out like crazy and I try to be good eating. I plan our meals and everything I’m up to try anything I’m not sure if this will go well in combination with my weight watchers ? Any advice would be great !!!! Also I come here for all the post so I don’t just use it for couponing and saving I found this site about five or six years ago and I have loved it so much because I am a stay at home military mom currently I live 28 hours away from family so I get lonely and sometimes this site helps with that because it’s hard to make friends when you move so often and I can relate to your team and a majority of your followers !!!! I’ve had all great experiences from this site I read all your new and interesting post I applaud you guys for always keeping your readers in mind you guys listen and try new things to keep us interested. Is everyone a fan of the new stuff or some of your post ? No! But you get satisfaction that someone benefited from it so keep going I love the deals and the relate-able post of various things !! Thanks guys!!!

    • Janice

      Hi Jessica!
Just wanted to say I enjoyed your post. I feel the same about try to be good about eating and also wonder how it will work with weight watchers. Although I can’t relate to moving, it must be hard. However, I can definitely relate to being lonely and finding friends. I also struggle with life and am trying to find ways to enjoy it more. As for loneliness, if you ever want to talk, I hope you reach out. (I would like to have a email buddy (pen pal is probably outdated..lol) I also consider myself a stay at home mom. Finally, Thank Your husband for his service (as well as you and your family for supporting him)!!!!

    • *Angela-Miles*

Hello Jessica, hope all is well with you. I’m kind of the same way with you about making new friends, I’m very shy in person. Most call me socially awkward LOL. So just meeting a random new friend doesnt happen for me like alot of people 😉 .But I agree with you about this blog, it’s a kind of community that has a neat bond over couponing. I don’t do social media at all, so outside of my immediate family and a few best friends this is where I do my online communicating. Glad you feel you can relate to the site 🙂 . Please try not to be too lonely and like Janice said, reach out if you are. Good luck to you and your family!!! 🙂 🙂

  44. Kaity D

Omg this is the best news!! I’ve been following your blog for the past 7-8 years but honestly I haven’t been couponing and saving as much since switching to Keto. I’m super excited to have this resource available! Thank you!

  45. Moni B.

I’m very excited about your new Keto Lifestyle website Collin! Congrats that’s so awesome! I ♡ reading your nutrition advice on the H2S site & enjoy the Keto-focused posts. While not yet 100% into that type of diet, I’ve dabbled and found that I lose pounds faster on a lower carb diet. Thank u for all the TONS of free Keto-focused diet ebooks on Amazon you’ve told us about. I have ALL of them now! Lose weight with Keto + save $ with H2S. That’s a winning combo to me!

  46. Victoria

This is awesome!! Thank you so much!! I used the “contact us” section of the new site to ask a question about meal ideas while road tripping this summer. Any ideas?

  47. muquee

Boy can you ever see Piper in this post’s picture of Collin. Adorable!

  48. Jennifer L.

LOVE this site for deals and so excited to see you created a separate page for this type of content that just wasn’t really a good fit (even though there is clearly interest in it for some). Just an honest opinion- I was getting grossed out by the keto posts. It can be a dangerous way of eating if not done properly and just sharing recipes like everyone should be eating this way seemed irresponsible almost. You have done a nice job on the new site explaining how it can be done safely under Dr supervision. Thank u for always making this site better!

    • Deal addict

Glad there will be a new site for keto stuff. I have no problem with the posts but a different site dedicated to it would benefit lots of keto followers & allow this one to stick with the deals. Thanks!

  49. Jen

This is what is great about this site as its about everything – If you dont like the post you dont have to read it plain and simple – As for the Keto diet hey if it works for you it works for you – Some ppl are into South Beach diet , keto, paleo , and or beach body (I do that one ) just the measuring of food works for me – Again everyone is different and everyone has an opinion about the diet .. – Its like anything you do type of exercises , diets you have to do you DUE DILLIGENCE and how your body reacts to certain things

Keto although I havent looked into it I wouldnt rule it out for something I would try to see how it is

I am an avid fitness freak lol – mainly im a boxer just call me Rocky 😉

So I think its great that there are fitness tips here and hey if you need any or recipes I would be happy to share with you guys even my workouts – No I am not an affliate of any brand or looking for you to sign up for anything.. just a little pay it forward 🙂
