Easy Copycat Wendy’s Frosty Recipe (Just 3 Ingredients!)
Love Wendy’s frosty?!
Not quite a milkshake, and yet not quite as thick as ice cream, this easy copycat chocolate frosty recipe is just like the signature frozen dairy dessert of Wendy’s fast food restaurants. It’s undeniably delicious!
My family loves this drive-thru treat all year round, but especially in the summer!
Yes, the DIY Wendy’s Frosty actually tastes legit!
And it requires just three easy ingredients! I’m actually super impressed with this idea because the result is a thick and creamy chocolate dessert that’s everything we love about an actual Wendy’s frosty.
Frozen chocolate milk is the key to success for this recipe.
Start by freezing a tray of chocolate milk ice cubes, because you’ll get that frozen dessert texture without watering down your frosty with regular ice. The whipped topping will add the creamy texture, and the sweetened condensed milk gives it a thickened texture and added sweetness.
Hip Tip: For the best possible texture, use a high powered blender like my Vitamix (or a food processor). Otherwise, you may have to add a little extra chocolate milk to blend the ice smooth.
Easy Copycat Wendy's Chocolate Frosty
yield: 2 SERVINGS
Skip the drive thru and make a creamy chocolate frozen frosty at home using just three ingredients!
Ingredients
- ice tray of frozen chocolate milk (16 cubes)
- 1 cup cool whip, frozen
- 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
Directions
1
Place frozen chocolate milk cubes, whipped topping, and condensed milk in a blender.
2
Blend until smooth and creamy. You may need to scrape down contents a couple times.
3
Extra optional step: I placed contents into a plastic freezer bag, snipped the corner, and piped the frosty into cups.
What a great copycat frosty!
The flavor, texture, and overall look are so much like a Wendy’s frosty. We loved this easy idea and hope you will, too!
Have an ice cream maker?
Pop Sugar shows you how to make a much larger batch of chocolate frosty using these same three ingredients. I tried it out using my Whynter 2.1 quart ice cream maker, and it was a definite hit with my family! This is a great way to make this frozen treat for a crowd!
Recipe idea adapted from YouTube channel – Brothers Green Eats.
looks yummy! cant wait to try it
Great!! Enjoy 😉
Is there a substitute for the cool whip that could be used? we stay away from that artificial stuff in our house!
Hi Jerri! I don’t use Cool Whip either. I use this recipe instead as a substitute!

Have you tried tru-whip?
We use the Tru Whip and love it. No aftertaste like the other brands.👍
It’s more expensive but better for you.
We use Tru Whip and love it! No weird aftertaste like other brands. A little more expensive but definitely worth it.👍
Sure – I saw the tru-whip next to the Cool Whip. 👍
I’ve never been impressed with anything about cool whip (doesn’t really taste good IMO…which makes sense considering what it’s made out of!) However, I noticed in the frozen organic dept at Kroger they had what looks like, well, the organic version of cool whip. I got some & tried it & it is TO DIE FOR! worth every penny of the high $5 price!!!
OMG Lina this looks so easy and delicious! Thank you for all your wonderful recipes!
Aw thanks so much Bunny! ❤️
Thanks. I’m gonna try it.
Enjoy Cathy!
Yum
Thanks!
Oh wow this is perfect thank you! I’m trying to compile a list of crafts and easy recipes for the kids being home all summer XD
Oh yes this would be super fun and Easy!
Does anyone know an alternative to the condensed milk? I can get the other ingredients lactose free but I don’t know what to substitute the condensed milk with.
You can make your own using coconut milk! Lots of recipes if you google it. Amazon also carries sweetened condensed coconut milk.
I’ve seen a soy version of condensed milk. Mine is in the baking isle near the powdered milk and canned cream.
Looks good! Thanks, Lina!
Thanks Scarlet!
I might have to buy myself a better blender. This looks so delicious!
Aw thanks so much!
Thanks,Lina! I am definitely making this! Of course you would pipe the frosty before serving! Everything you do seems to have that little extra step! Your family is so lucky to have you. You seem so sweet!
Oh my goodness – that was such a sweet comment! THANKS Jill ❤️

I think I’ll make this in my Cuisinart ice cream maker -no need to freeze cubes
Yes perfect!

Ya I think that’d work!

Thank you! My 3 year old can’t have dairy and I was trying to figure out how to make this dairy free for him.
Made for my kids tonight. It was a huge hit! ty❤
Hooray! So glad to hear that 😍
My son loves this, but he wants me to be able to make the vanilla frosty too. What would be best? I was thinking either vanilla ice cream or vanilla milk, but I am unsure.
