Love homemade ice cream?

You’ve gotta try making birthday cake ice cream that tastes super similar to the popular Cake Batter flavor from Cold Stone Creamery! This happens to be a family favorite ice cream flavor, so I was very excited to try this DIY version, and am happy to report back it tastes AMAZING!

The secret ingredient is cake mix!

The yellow cake mix combined with the rainbow sprinkles is the perfect mix in for this ice cream! It really adds the crave-able cake like flavor. The end result is an incredibly delicious, rich, and creamy ice cream your family will flip for! 🙌

Fact: I’m in LOVE with my new ice cream maker!

While any ice cream maker will work for this recipe, let me tell ya about mine. I decided to get the Whynter 2.1 Qt ice cream maker after hearing about how much Collin loves hers, and OMG it’s fantastic! I mean there’s no more salt, or ice, or freezing a bowl first like the ones I used to have. This baby has a built-in compressor and is so fast and easy to use. You can have homemade ice cream in about 30 minutes, and I, too, now share Collin’s ice cream excitement!!

Homemade Cake Batter Ice Cream

Here's a birthday cake ice cream recipe that tastes super similar to Cold Stone's famous Cake Batter variety!

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2/3 cup boxed yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles

  • Step 1:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together sugar and milk.

  • Step 2:

Whisk in the vanilla, heavy whipping cream, and yellow cake mix. Combine using whisk until there are no lumps.

  • Step 3:

Pour into your ice cream maker to freeze.

  • Step 4:

Toward the end of freeze time (mine takes about 30-35 minutes), add sprinkles to ice cream.

  • Step 5:

Once frozen to desired consistency, it's ready to serve.

  • Step 6:

If you want harder, firmer ice cream to scoop, place in the freezer for about 30 minutes, then scoop out into bowls or cones.

This is dangerously DELISH, and my family enjoyed this so much! What a fun and EASY ice cream flavor to make. I bet you could even try other flavor cake mixes, too, and get creative. Enjoy!
