Winner. Winner. Chicken Dinner!

Due to a recent recall in 26 states, you might want to hold off on making those turkey tacos or serving any pet food with raw turkey to your furry friends.

NO product brands have been determined yet, but the CDC and USDA-FSIS have reported 90 cases of Salmonella infection linked to raw turkey products, live turkeys and raw turkey pet food.

Check this map to see if your state has reported infections. We should hear more about this investigation soon and we’ll make sure to keep you all posted about which products to look for in your kitchen as soon as we hear more.

Oh no, we just had turkey tacos tonight 😳 we are in NV, so hopefully we aren’t the first cases of it for our state!

You should be fine. Cooking it to 148 degrees and holding for 3 minutes will kill 99.999999% of salmonella. The biggest concern is cross contamination, so washing hands and countertops is important. I keep a bowl of water with a small amount of bleach nearby to dip my wash cloth in for sanitizing.

my son was hospitalized for 2 weeks with it about a month ago in ga 😭😭😭😭

Oh no! I’m so sorry. I hope he’s doing ok!

With salmonella (in regard to meat anyway), as long as it’s cooked thoroughly & everything is properly disinfected, it’s not a problem, correct?

    • Heather

That’s what I’m hoping-i overcook everything-unfortunately I’ve been using ground turkey in everything lately so I’m REALLY hoping that helps. Im scared to look at what states are affected.

    • 50ShadesofLipstick

Not necessarily, as the risk of cross contamination is still very much present. There’s no way to ensure that cross contamination didn’t take place even if you do disinfect. And since the risk of getting sick from salmonella, e. coli, etc. is so high, that is why they have recalls in the first place.

of course I just made turkey chili that’s we’ve been eating for the last few days! ugh

Ugh, just had turkey burgers last night and was planning to have them again tonight!

When does this start getting investigated as bioterrorism? It seems to be happening so often. It’s scary!

      Lol wut

Hip2Save, I think you should edit your post. It is not a recall. In fact, the CDC’s website states, “CDC is not advising that consumers avoid eating properly cooked turkey products, or that retailers stop selling raw turkey products.”
