I bought this last year for my daughter starting preschool. We love it, I love how she gets a variety of food for lunch as I pack mini carrots, cheese sticks, cherry tomatoes etc all in the different compartments. She loves picking out what she wants and tells me where to put them when I am packing her lunch. Her teacher even called me to tell me that she loves how my daughter gets such a variety with lunch and they look so good.
The items do not even move around when tossed around the lunch box, easy clean up as well. I use silicone cupcake liners and put them in the compartments of the box and fill them with the food so that way I just pop out the liners and wash them. I would recommend this.
I bought this for my preschooler before this school year started & we practiced using it so she would know how to open it up on her own at school. It works perfect & she feels like such a grownup with her own lunchbox. I was worried that she may struggle with getting it open, after a few tries, it was no problem. It works as intended & we love it!
These are perfect for my two-year-old daughter. She likes to be independent and the Bentgo kids work great for her independence.
These are amazing! The inside compartment is dishwasher safe. I wish the outside was, but I still love it 🙂 it really does seal each compartment so you could put dressing in one and chips and another and the dressing stays put and the chips stay crisp.
My kindergartener uses this daily for lunch and he absolutely loves it. Highly recommended.
Got one last year for kindergarten and it’s still going strong in first grade. Fantastic quality and design. I paid just under $30 and it’s been worth every penny.
We got one for my kindergartener this year and he loves it!
We have one for each of our three children. We have had them for a little over two years now and we haven’t had any qualms about them. They are a fantastic way to eat healthier and keep cost down when doing things such as play dates or field trips for a homeschooling family as well.
We have 6 and use them daily for kids ages 4-11. We pack leftovers from the night before along with produce and healthy snacks. So easy to prep, clean, and reuse. ❤️

I was excited when I first saw this a few years ago for my kids. Purchased 3 and was very disappointed. It’s very bulky and it’s heavy after you put food in there. The other compartments are very small for us. Also adding a small pack of cooler to keep cool makes their lunch bag more heavy. Also the rubber on the top gets moldy after a while. My kids prefer their stainless steel containers.
Do you use Planet Box? How do you keep them from spilling over and leaking? Like juice from watermelon, etc. Plus aren’t they heavy as well?
For the Planet Box use Press and Seal over the section that has the juicy item in it. We have both a Planet Box and Bentgo for our kids. I prefer the Planet Box over the Bentgo but like how the Bentgo can fit into a Pottery Barn lunch bag and the Planet Box can’t.
Thank you! Planet box is 25% off right now!
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback EndLessLuv!
Shipping is $6 .. ruins the deal
Instead of buying the whole bentgo kids set up, we just got the tray inserts with the lids. They’re $10 on amazon. These have worked out well for us. My 5yo gets the separation she wants (no foods touching each other… insert> eye rolling emoji) and we have fun thinking up new ideas to fill in the smaller compartments. We haven’t experienced any leaking or spillage since the lid fits tightly and has side snaps, then again the only runny thing I’ve sent is nutella in the tiny compartment for fruit dipping. Since the trays aren’t as bulky without the outer box, it all fits in nicely into her land’s end lunch bag with room for an ice pack and a drink. And because the amazon price makes these easily replaceable, I won’t cringe if she accidentally misplaces one (hasn’t happened yet!) I was skeptical at first at how much food they’ll hold, but they do hold a surprising amount! You just have to get creative with it and that’s part of the fun!
What is the exact name of the tray inserts with lids?
“Bentgo Kids Compartment Tray with Transparent Cover” I just checked and the price has gone up a little on amazon. You can still get it for $10 on Bentgo.com but you’ll have to spend $35 to get free shipping. Maybe considering buying a few colors to change it up or sub out if one is dirty in the dishwasher? We have a few so I don’t have to frantically wash them daily to pack her lunch.
Thanks for sharing your feedback! Happy to hear they hold a good amount of food. 🙂 Foods not touching sounds a lot like my house too! LOL
Zulily has the inserts for 5.99 each, but shipping for 2 is $8.
My daughter is going into Kindergarten and she has had this box since she was 2. She loves the variety! Weight has never been an issue for us nor cleaning. Totally recommend!
We sure do appreciate you sharing your experience with these, Erica! Happy to know you’d recommend them! 🙂
I like Bento Box, but I find it to be too bulky as well. We switched to lunch blox (rubbermaid) and while it is big, it comes with the ice pack attached and fits perfectly in her standard lunch bag. I like that is has a container for a full size sandwich!
Thanks for the tip, Julie! We just got our planet box in yesterday and I was wondering how to prevent leaks.
Great timing! I was just looking into buying these!
We use Bynto by Goodbyn – less expensive and we’ve been using them for years.
We bought these for our preschooler! Love them..! I don’t find them to be heavy and they clean well. We put the insert in dishwasher and hand wash the outer box. We use the Rubbermaid lunch blox for our 5th grader and those work really well for her!!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing how they have worked for your family!
My kids used these in preschool and they worked well and lasted a few years. Since then we have tried every bento under the sun and we like Yumbox the best.
Thanks for taking a moment to comment! We sure appreciate the review!
I don’t want to take away from this post but i HIGHLY recommend the yumbox lunchbox over this one. It’s a bit higher priced but so totally worth it. It truly is leak proof.
I was just coming to say the same thing! Can not say enough good things about yumboxes.
Does anyone know if the yumbox fits the PBK classic lunch box? I bought one (used 😉) for kindergarten and I totally regret it! Nothing fits in it! (Actually, the bento does but it’s compartments are TINY. I got one to try and am returning it.)
I bought one of those at zulily.com last year. A month or two after we used it is cracked, I tried to contact the manufacturer they wanted me to ship it for my own money which was $12 I believe. I told them I am not shipping it the back for $12 I paid 20 something dollars for it when i bought it. So I threw it away. was very disappointed
I’ve heard good things about these. We use Yumbox. $30 each. However, I sure wish that the yumbox was larger. They do sell Panino version, so I might try it. Very cute, leak proof, and compact
I use the Yumbox panino for my 8 yr old. Sandwiches and salads fit great in the large compartment. It’s also my favorite Yumbox to use for myself. Yumbox original is more suited for my 6 yr old who enjoys a smorgasbord of items in much smaller quantities. I love that it’s totally leak proof and there are no accessories to buy and keep track of to make it leak proof like some other bentos we tried in the past.
Thank you for this post and for all of the comments with various recommendations! We bought the Cat and Jack Bento Box and while we like it, the coordinating silicone cups do not go the whole way up. I end up folding a paper towel and putting it over the fruit to keep it in place. I have been wondering what a good alternative is and this gives me plenty of options to look in to!!
