alba botanica un-petroleum lip balm – Closeup of the vanilla tube

Hey All! It’s Angie – one of the Hip sidekicks!

Ever have chapped lips? Whether from the sun, being a little dehydrated, or maybe just licking them too much, most of us suffer from chapped, dry lips at least once in a while.

If you’re looking to try something new, I HIGHLY suggest this Alba Botanica Un-Petroleum Lip Balm (vanilla is my go-to). I AM HOOKED. This lip balm is so amazing that I have it as part of my Amazon Subscribe & Save and get it shipped to me every single month. Not because I go through a tube that quickly, but I never want to run out. AND I love to share it with anyone I can.

What makes this lip balm so wonderful?

First off, I ❤️ the fact that it doesn’t contain petroleum. You can do a quick Google search and find a million reasons why petroleum isn’t the best thing to be putting on your body – and whether you believe it all or not, I still find it comforting knowing that it’s not in my fave lip balm.

It also contains sunscreen (SPF 18) and is made with 100% vegetarian ingredients. Plus, it contains no parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances – so if you’re concerned with those factors, you’re in luck.

In addition, this lip balm goes on SO smooth, is not in the slightest bit waxy, and there isn’t any icky taste. Anyone ever licked your lips after applying ChapStick brand lip balm? 🤢 The taste is so nasty and it has a definite greasy feel.

AND, when I say that this balm goes on smooth, I mean it… you don’t get any big chunks of lip balm breaking off on your lips as you’re applying.

It does tend to go on thicker than most other brands – but it’s not a hard consistency like Burt’s Bees. Rather, it applies in a fully coated, my lips are going to be well protected and healing underneath this layer kind of way.

I often apply this before bedtime and if I have dry, chapped lips from whatever the day had brought, they are significantly better when I wake up in the morning.

Want to try a tube? This lip balm is available in vanilla, tangerine, and cherry and is priced around $1.50-$3 at many retailers, including,, and Amazon.

I make my own chapstick with just bees wax and olive oil.

Angie !! I almost feel like this post was partially written for me. I have very bad luck with any and all lip balms drying out and making my chapped lips worse. I strictly only use
Vaseline. I honestly didnt think it was bad since its the only thing that works. I will try your recommendation tho. Im all for giving the old college try to things that others cant live with out. Wish me and my chapped lips luck !!

      Good luck Coulter’s lips😜❤️

    • Mimi

I’m definitely not picky about petroleum jelly, but what I do know about it is that using just Vaseline for lips is its less of a balm and more of a sealant for your lips. So it isn’t really moisturizing your lips, its just protecting it from outside elements. I usually only just use it over normal balm for winter chapped lips.

Good luck! 😃 I hope you like it and that it works well for you!

    mine too!

I saw a dr oz show one time where he said you should only use chapstick when you really need it, your lips will stop making their natural moisturizer if you use it too often.

    • KR

And I fount it to be true, too – the more I use lip balm the more I felt I needed it

    • Ashley

Yeah, I have this problem. I’ve been addicted to lip balm for over 10 years 😭 My go to for the last 7-8 years had been Burts bees.

      • Ashley

        As I immediately reapply…

    • Nana

I saw that show too. For the post few years I’ve been putting coconut oil on my lips at night and I no longer get chapped lips.

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

      Oh, that’s interesting! 🤔

    • STLady

I’ve heard the same for moisturizers for your skin Ann.

    • *Angela-Miles*

Interesting info Ann. Glad I mainly use chaptsick in the winter. Only time my lips are chapped are really from the cold, except for the pool. Thanks for the warning 🙂

Maine Hempworks peppermint is the best! Locally made, vegan and cruelty free certified with all quality ingredients and a silky smooth application.

  6. Rainbow

I like EOS mint balm and Natural Grocers has some by the register that are bees wax and natural oils. They have a peppermint lip balm that is not sweet and is my favorite.

  7. Sobimomma

This isn’t available with subscribe and save. Is there a different link that is?

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

Darn! I am not seeing another product option for Subscribe & Save. Hopefully it comes back soon!

  8. Mimi

If yall feel like you’re “addicted” to lip balm defiantly check the ingredients for your lip balm. I am a hard no on Burt’s Bees because of the strong peppermint oil they use. If you use a mint lip balm and feel like you constantly need to reapply multiple times a day your lips may be too sensitive for the mint! I had this problem because the mint balm feels refreshing but it only last during the application, and in the long run left my lips off worse. So watch out for mint balms as well!

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up, Mimi!

blistex dct (daily conditioning treatment) especially before bed.

  10. Jenn

    I’ve bought this from
Amazon before. It’s great! I especially love the sunscreen since lips tend to get burned easily.

Lol. People love to hate on petroleum jelly but Vaseline/Aquaphor is the only thing that works on my kids’ eczema and I know that we aren’t alone either. So to each their own…do what works for you but live and let live.

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

I totally agree with you! We have to use what works for us and our kiddos! So glad that you have found something that works well for your kids eczema! 🙂

  12. Beth

I love this brand! I use it just twice a day- morning and night.

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

That’s my routine too! It’s amazing!

  13. Vanessa

I have this and am not a fan. It smells weird and does not go on easily. I would not recommend.

    • Angie (Sweet Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing your opinion, Vanessa! 🙂
