If you want to get excited about discounted home decor where you can use clever money-saving tips, look no further than Pottery Barn to shop— seriously!
Normally I avoid this very gorgeous, though very expensive store, but I realize that’s becoming a huge downfall in my home shopping game. I’ve been missing out for far too long on marked-down throw pillows, rugs, dinnerware, and so much more.
It goes beyond just my home as well! This place is a goldmine for housewarming and hostess gifts, and your friends and family will think you spent some serious cash on them. Let me tell you about my most recent trip to Pottery Barn…
Let’s be honest, the front of the store is a trap.
You can’t deny that when you first walk in, you just feel so welcomed by the beautiful tables full of fresh merchandise and the elegantly styled fully assembled furniture. “Can I just live here, please?” However, you can look, but don’t even think about buying. Don’t even think about looking at the price tag for that matter! 😱
These are the showpieces meant to draw you in and drain your wallet with non-discounted, full-priced tags. Instead, sigh and move along. But don’t worry, you’re on to greener pastures.
Walk along the walls.
Here’s the thing about the Pottery Barn store layout — the middle is open, airy, and just plain inviting. But the walls are where the sales are. Though slightly hidden (yet not entirely since they obviously want to sell the product), you’ll find shelves brimming with mismatched pillows, candle holders, and textiles, along with sale signage to move these products out the door.
There’s nothing wrong with these products. They just no longer fit the season (or into the thoughtfully styled arrangements throughout the store). Oh well, our benefit!
Look for floor samples, especially damaged ones.
Do you want to find something that’s almost guaranteed to be half off? Look at the floor models of larger items — not only are they marked down, they’re typically fully assembled, meaning you save both time and money!
The markdown percentage may vary, but you can try to bargain for an additional percentage off if the product has any visible wear like scratches, rips, or dents from other customers walking through the store and touching them. If you’re handy or can live with a slight ding in the surface, the savings are well worth it!
And don’t forget to scope out the seasonal floor items. I found patio furniture marked down by almost 60% off and summer rugs almost 70% off! Again, these were the floor models, but why the heck would I care about packaging when the price is that good!
Stop at your final shopping destination: the back corners.
Creep into the abandoned shadows of the back of Pottery Barn for a sweet surprise — clearance! These tucked away corners are where you’ll find an assortment of out of season and almost out of stock items that seriously just need to go. Lucky for us!
You can find crazy steep discounts for up to 75% off on a wide variety of Pottery Barn goods. If you’re thinking, “Meh, I really don’t need to buy anything for my home,” consider picking up these steals for gifts, whether for birthdays, holidays, a housewarming, or for the get-together host! While you can’t return these items typically, going with universal items like trays, serving dishes, candles, or picture frames gives you a little more leeway so you can stock your gift closet.
It’s also important to know that most clearance item price tags end in $0.97 or $0.99, which indicate a product’s final sale pricing. While you’ll be saving a chunk of cash, you won’t be able to return the item later, so make sure you really love it.

Even sweeter, the company allows for all of their cards to be used within their family of brands which includes Pottery Barn Kids, PB Teen, Williams Sonoma, and West Elm, so you can look up the best discount and use at the store of your choice. So on top of the clearance/sale prices, you get the absolute cheapest price possible.
You’ll want to watch for any fine print on the cards, as eGift cards are typically for online purchases only, while physical cards and vouchers may be accepted both online and in-store.
No worries if you find a discounted card that’s online only since you can actually find Pottery Barn steals without having to go to the store. Their website has a pretty wide selection of clearance items, though you have to be strategic with your searching. Since they don’t offer a sorting function, it’s best to start at the bottom of the page and scroll up. This way you’ll see the best deals first and not waste your time scrolling through the small discounts.

You can also go vintage with your furniture search! By checking out thrift stores and estate sales, you can potentially come across pieces that are no longer sold by the brand, and you may just stumble upon a super hot deal! Hip Tip: Don’t forget to check Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace by searching “Pottery Barn” for other people’s gently used items at discount prices!

Pottery Barn has the best quality couches! We invested in some (with a sale and coupon!) about 6 years ago and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. They we comfortable from day one and are still like new with daily use by my family of 4. We bought the ones with the fitted slipcovers and just take them off and wash them about every 6 months. If you can swing the price, totally worth it!
What’s their quality like, especially their furniture?
I’ve been a PB fan for a long time, but I’ve gotta say, having recently spent a day searching through treasures at a PB outlet, even those prices are super expensive. No matter how discounted, absurdly overinflated with a 30% discount was still not a Target price. Guess you have to hit the best sales for that.
On the other hand, I’ve recently purged some items from my closets, and I decided to take out some linens and accessories I’d picked up on deep discount 15 years ago (no joke). I love the patterns and designs just as much now as I did then, and they go with everything in my home. So PB’s classic aesthetic wears well for a long time.

I have always been dismissive of this store because of the high prices as well. I will have to give them a try again and I just discovered that one of their outlet stores are located about an hour from my house!

I have a Pottery Barn outlet about 45 minutes from me. Everyone should be aware that they don’t accept returns. I tried to return something there that I purchased online, and they refused to take it. I was told to return it UPS (their only mail option) or drive to a Pottery Barn that was not an outlet.
I don’t know of any outlet store that accepts online or non-outlet returns.
Carter’s outlets accept returns. I’ve successfully done it, and it says they will in their return policy. After my issue with Pottery Barn, I’m careful to read return policies before purchasing.

Yep, the Outlet Store in Dawsonville, GA is about twenty minutes from my house. I’ve picked up several pieces of furniture over the years from there…bar stools, computer cabinet, bookcases, farmhouse children’s table and chairs. It is wonderful!
I bought a Pottery Barn table off Facebook marketplace for $25!!! The lady was moving and the table needs to be refinished so she just wanted it gone

I just bought a new computer and tested them out at the store. I determined which one I was going to get by which one loaded this site the fastest because this is by far the slowest site to load. But I do love this site!

I’ve been buying through the years, during sales. I have not one regret and, their style is always in. Pillow and comforter covers, have always gorgeous designs. Their furniture are sturdy and if you find a good sale, you can find incredible deals. By the way, my favorite is their “one day sale”, it’s up to 70% off. In fact, today they have one going on.
Oh I Love PB! I love their sales (only buy when it’s on sale/clearance). In Christmas time my house looks pretty much like a PB store hahaha. Love it!

Many years ago, before we had kids, I liked walking into PB just to browse, not necessarily to buy—I mean, even then with a more disposable income it was still too expensive for us. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a clearance shelf with beautiful, high quality pasta plates for ONLY $2.xx PER PLATE! I couldn’t believe my luck and snatched up 8 of them! I was so excited and would walk into that store whenever I happened to be at the plaza, but alas, haven’t found such a steal since and I just eventually stopped going in (prob because I started having kids and maybe I just gave up? 😂). But I can testify to the great finds!
I purchased furniture for both of my kids rooms years ago and it still looks great today…. I have always loved pottery barn because it is very classic and timeless… I loved the “Friends” episode where they buy all the stuff from the window display… I love their catalogs for inspiration and ideas… I’m symptoms to make the “dollhouse” style lift bead for my daughter so we will see if it turns out for a fraction of the price😉

Not only PB but PB kids have amazing prices. I’ve been able to get great prices at the regular store and the outlets. My house looks like a picture out of the PB Catalog and I didn’t pay full price.
They also do a military discount of 10% across all of their brands/stores. You can also order online items at the store and have them shipped to the store for free. This saves a ton of money on those hefty shipping costs!

Same. Mine is so slow and laggy that I haven’t been on here much lately. I used to check the app 2-3 times a day. Now it’s like once a week and that is IF it loads 🤦🏻♀️
OK- Pottery Barn for Target Prices??? I think that is a stretch…but it did get me to click. I used to manage a PB Outlet – my advice: skip the furniture (much of it is used; all of it is damaged) and if it is very minimally damaged, so will be the discount (minimal). Buy furniture at the regular store with warranties, and more return options. Around Thanksgiving, every dept. is usually 20% off at some point. For non-furniture things (rugs included) – outlet is awesome! Also – you can call an outlet and ask them if they have a particular item (think curtains, sheets, etc) and they will send it to you! It is called a “send-sale” – though it is UPS or FedEx shipping (not cheap). PB is expensive – but as a brand, there isn’t anything comparable (price-wise) that is better quality. Some are just as good. It is worth the money if you want long lasting things and you like the style offered. Restoration Hardware is more expensive, and about the same quality (some wooden furniture is much lower quality – beds, etc), but if you want a CHEAP couch that will last forever (especially when you want it to die so you HAVE to replace it) go to ikea! They have a few sofas that look like PB sofa styles and ikea sofas last FOREVER – like it or not! Atleast they offer new ikea sofa slip cover colors every few years 🙂
This is not the Case for all pottery barn outlets. Ours gets tons of brand new furniture. Much of it overstock or discontinued or last seasons items. I highly recommend going the outlet route for furniture deals

I have a pottery barn outlet close to me and I try to avoid it because I know I’ll end up buying a bunch of stuff! It’s great for pillows, gifts, candles, toys. One time I went in while they had a crazy sale on outdoor “garden” chairs. I snatched 2 up!
I also comb their website regularly for sale and clearance items. I have snagged some impressive home decor at unbelievable prices. Especially when they have a free shipping sale. I love their holiday items which go to deep discount usually.
I have purchased PB Kids bookbags and lunch boxes for my kids for several years. Each item has withstood daily wear and tear (my kids have taken them to daycare/preschool) for three years or more and I have washed the bookbags and lunch boxes (on the delicate cycle) with no issues. I replaced my oldest’s original PB Kids bookbag and lunch box that I bought him when he was 18 months old just before he went to kindergarten only because I wanted him to have something new for his new school, not because they needed to be replaced. Are they expensive? Yes they are, but if they stand up to the abuse young children put them through for three years or more, the price is worth it. I could buy something cheaper but I’d likely have to replace it annually.
Lunch boxes can definitely take a beating with all the wear and tear. Good to know that truly do last from PB Kids and that you can easily wash them in a delicates cycle! Thank you for sharing!
I’ve been wanting to comment somewhere about that as well. when you click on a deal in the app it does take FOREVER! I find the recipes load even slower. it’s a huge drag. not if there’s something you can do about that hip2save but if you could fix that it would be super appreciated!
Our downeast home stores carry pottery barn and lots of times on a big discount! All my stockings are pottery barn and I got them for 4 bucks or less from downeast Home. Same with nice pottery barn towels for 3 bucks each!
We had a PB outlet 15 minutes from our house, and a lot of their stuff are still overpriced, in my opinion. And just like others said, the furniture were mostly damaged. They closed the outlet maybe 2 years ago. But o just found out that they just opened an outlet about 25 miles away. I might check it out, and hopefully they have better stuff than the old one.
I used to work at a Pottery Barn many years ago. Check out their public restrooms. They often keep bulky discounted floor models like coffee tables in the back hallway near the entrance to the loo. Also, they have a generous discount if you sign on as seasonal help. Finally, best discounts are in late December into January…after the holiday but before post-season inventory.
I would never think to check the area near the bathroom for floor models — brilliant!! I totally agree about the seasonal employment if one is able to fit it into their schedule. It must be so fun to work there during the holidays anyway with how gorgeous the store looks. Thank you for sharing!
I am a Pottery Barn JUNKIE!!!!!!!
Watch their sales, you can TOTALLY get amazing deals. I got all of my kids backpacks there this year. I got all my kids new bedding sets this year… and I’m talking nice stuff. I love the season changes because they clearance and then discontinue SO.MUCH. They put a lot in the back and you have to ask what is back there 😉 When I come in they just bring a bunch of stuff out for me to go through, I LOVE IT! 🙂 I got all 3 of my kids complete bedding sets (curtains, sheets, comforters or quilts) for LESS THAN $75 a piece. I spent the most on my daughter, because I had to have a non-local store ship me something, and the least on my oldest son. Stack your sales and work your deals. I love love love love love their furniture!!! I don’t mind spending a pretty penny for furniture because I buy it to last; here quality matters more than price in my house. Regardless…. You most certainly can get it for your average furniture store price. Keep your eyes on what you want. Prices change daily, as do the sales.
