This product is great! We used it about 6 years ago to to redo the cabinets in our first kitchen. They came out great. Swapped out the hardware and we had a totally updated kitchen after 1 weekend! We sold that home 3 years later, but the cabinets still looked wonderful when we moved.

We used one of these kits for the cabinets in the bathroom and laundry room probably 5 years ago. They still look great. This kit is a process and it takes a while to get it done because of the drying times.

I did my entire kitchen in this product. The kit comes with a seal so the cabinets have a gloss coat over them and wipe off easily. It’s been approximately 5 years and we haven’t had anything chip or fade due to cleaning.

We used this about a year ago and so far it still looks great! Turned out perfect. I highly recommend.

We bought 2 kits last time this deal was posted. It’s a great product and i’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s pretty time intensive so give yourself some grace if you decide to go for it. Also, if you decide to do a lighter color, you will definitely need more that one kit. I did 5 coats of white and probably could have done another. The grey was fine with 5 coats . I think they say each kit will cover 2 coats.

How many do you thing I should buy just to do a bathroom cabinet with 4 doors?

      • Jc

It sounds small, so I would just get one.

Thanks for the tips Stacie! I bought kits last time these were on sale, but have been hesitant to give it a try. Glad to hear it turned out great! Time for me to crack open the boxes and go for it!

These kits are amazing and really help upgrade your cabinets on a budget! It is a little time intensive but so worth it in the end!

Thanks for the heads up! Perfect timing. We were just talking about painting our cabinets. Great price!

I used this 2 years ago on my bathroom cabinets. They still look amazing even with 8 people in the house! I agree with the other post about the white needing multiple coats. I actually bought the white first and then decided it wasn’t covering well so I went back and bought black. It was so dramatic my friends swore I installed new cabinets! I only had to do 2 coats of black and then the sealer.

Turns out this product can’t ship to me nor to the store in California even though all the stores here carry the product. I just hope the store had it and honors the online price.

I got this kit last time it was posted on hip2save, I LOVE IT! I ran out of base coat and I called the company to see where I could just purchase extra base coat, and they shipped me another can for NO CHARGE!!! I just had to take a pic of the cabinets and the box the original kit came in. I LOVE my cabinets now!!!

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

So cool that they did that!

    Is this online only deal?

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes, it’s an online exclusive! 🙂

    • Jc

Sounds like a great company 👍

Ok, I am super new with paint stuff, and have no knowledge. So, please suggest me. Can we paint on oak cabinets? I have them in kitchen. Bathrooms and laundry. They got all fainted and looking bad. Please help. Thanks

    • Riss

I painted our oak kitchen cabinets white, but didn’t use this brand. I used Benjamin Moore Advance paint. Our oak cabinets were painted espresso by the previous owners. I’m telling you, it was a lot of hard work, time and labor intensive. Strip paint, degrease and clean, sand in between, apply grain filler, prime and paint!

  9. Wishinitwas

I am assuming you sand the cabinets first? Does 1-2 kits do the whole kitchen? We would be going from oak to gray or darker brown.

    • Sindhu

I bought 2 dark brown kits for my current oak cabinets. If I get some left over, I can use for one of bathrooms or laundry that has just 3 cabinets.

    • Karin

Hi Wishinitwas, No, you do not sand first. The first step is to use the can of cleaner/deglosser that comes in the kit. I have done a bathroom with this and loved the results. No chipping and you can’t tell its not the original finish.

      • Wishinitwas

Thank you very much! I saw that after I commented. I can’t believe no sanding required. I can’t decide which color though!

  10. flyingfree

Trying to decide how many kits I need. I have 2 bathrooms – grey (single sink cabinets) master bath cabinet (long cabinet with 2 sinks) and the kitchen cabinets- espresso along fridge and along stove

  11. Jc

I too would like to know if current cabinets would need to be sanded down beforehand. They had a sealant put on them about 10-15 years ago.

    • Lori

Per The HD website, the product says “Easy 3-step coating system without stripping, sanding or priming”. And it says it covers up to 100 SF.

Heard this on the news recently and now I am afraid to purchase anything made by them. I realize this isn’t the same product but still concerned. (WCMH) – Rust-Oleum is recalling cans of a countertop coating due to a violation of the federal lead paint ban.
The recall affects the black satin colored Rust-Oleum countertop coating with product number 263209 and batch code P7612D. The product number and batch code are printed on the bottom of the can. The can is silver and the label on the can is green and white. The label on the can reads “countertop coating,” “black satin,” “renew laminate surfaces,” and “moisture & scratch resistant.”
The coating contains levels of lead that exceed the federal lead paint ban.
Lead is toxic and can cause adverse health issues of ingested by young children.

    • Jc

😕 thanks for posting. I am hesitant to buy when there have been recalls like this.

  13. Lydia

Does anybody know if this will work on laminate cabinets, or does it only work on wood cabinets? Thanks in advance!

    • Karin

Lydia, Yes, you can use it on laminate!

    • Jac

Product description says “Bond coat for ultimate adhesion to wood and laminate surfaces.” Should work on both.

      • Lydia

        Thank you both!

  14. Mima

    White out of stock.

So bummed. Had these in my cart and was so excited because we were planning to buy 4 kits and do our cabinets. Forgot to checkout 😢
