Here’s what Hip2Save readers have to say about Home Chef

I tried Home Chef and really liked it. There’s a nice variety of recipes, they offer gluten-free options, and the portions are a perfect size. The produce items in my box were of excellent quality, just as if I’d picked out each pepper, onion, shallot, etc. myself. Since I moved to a tiny town almost 2 hours away from the high-end grocery stores I used to frequent in the large city I moved from, Home Chef still allows me to cook the type of fresh food my family enjoys without the hassle of a long round trip to the grocery store.

Our family loves Home Chef. We tried Plated, Blue Apron, and Hello Fresh, too, but this one is our fave. We find the meals to be pretty kid-friendly, quick, and easy for weeknight cooking.

I use Home Chef weekly. I’m a single mom on a budget and my two boys won’t eat what I eat. My 2-person recipe Home Chef meals can be turned into 2 dinners and at least one lunch for me and it’s so worth it. The options are diverse and the recipes are easy and delicious! I love Home Chef.

Home Chef is my favorite! Super consistent, never any issues with rotten food, missing ingredients, etc unlike Plated and Hello Fresh.

Oh awesome! Good to know what a great experience you have had!! Thanks for sharing with us!

We love Home Chef and have been with them for about two years. They have a good amount of meals to choose from, unlike some others I’ve tried, and usually we can find two or three meals a week that everyone can agree on.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

SWEET! I love it when everyone can agree on what to have for dinner!

  3. Jamie

I think i’m missing something here, but why do all of these services appear to have the price per serving go up with more servings? Shouldn’t it go down?

    • Mara

I noticed the same thing… I’d love to know why as well?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi there! This is a list of weekly meal options that all include the same $30 discount. Each option, even those with more servings, will receive the $30 off. Hope that helps!

    • Angela

Pre discount and shipping, the price per meal is the same in all options. The discount is a flat $30 no matter which option you choose. That would make the price per meal go up on the higher price options b/c the discount is split among more meals.

Advertising the price per serving with the initial promo (dollars off) is misleading. This explains why each serving increases as you add more. On the company website it says: “$9.95 per serving for 2 servings” I also saw “as low as 7.95 per serving” in frequent tly asked questions.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi Kelly! You will receive the same $30 off, regardless of the size of the plan you choose. Hoping that might help!

We tried Plated years ago, when this whole “boxed ingredients at your door” thing started. Most of the food was good but we got bad chicken once that totally turned us off of using a delivery service like this. (I should add, they were great about giving us a free meal to make up for that one but we still canceled and haven’t used anything like that since.)

I decided to go ahead and try Hello Chef because of all the great reviews. As usual, it kind of stinks to see “gee, none of these options really sound great to me” but then the next week loving the sound of everything! LOL Too bad they don’t have an option to note, “This sounds great to me but I’m already maxed out right now!” so they will know what people want more of.

  6. Darla

I have never tried any of these nor have I gone to their websites. Is there an ability to use the discount and give it as a gift somehow? Would be a good gift for my niece who’s in a new home and 28 with a roommate!
