Any good advice on affordable earring for little girls? I have an allergy to fake jewelry and I had a suspicion that my daughter would as well. We pierced her ears this summer and after 8 weeks I purchased nickel free gold plated earrings at Target. It was supposed to be a line of jewelry that avoided these allergens. Well her ears are now infected and so I am in search of affordable safe earrings. She is 5 and really wants earrings, but I can’t afford to stock her up with real and expensive pieces. Not only that. But from the time I took out her piercing earrings her ears have been trying to close up. I don’t understand why they are still trying to close up after 4 months? Any advice would be helpful.

My ears kept trying to reject my earrings for years – even with gold/silver jewelry. I had trouble with other types of piercings also. My daughter can only wear the more expensive jewelry, we found that ‘Claires’ has a good amount of cute sterling silver earring options for a good price.

It was quite a few years before my ears stopped trying to close up immediately, and if I left earrings out of my ears now for an extended period of time, they’d eventually start to close up.

Try switching to a sterling or 14k yellow gold thin small hoop she may be pushing the earrings too tight

      Aleisha,
I have discovered the stainless steel earrings at Sally Beauty supply store. They have great earrings and super cheap, 6.00-10.00 a pair. Get on there text list for coupons and you can get them even cheaper! They have never bothered my ears like so many do.

About the holes closing up, the way my family has always done it is by either making sure that for about 3-4 weeks not taking off the original earings but making sure to move it around daily.

You could try etsy and buy some gold studs with a screwback. I did that with my little one. That way I don’t have to worry about taking them off when she bathes and they won’t prick her when she sleeps. She’s had her ears pierced for 3 years and I have only ever taken them off once.

You could also try gold filled. It’s more affordable but I can vouch that it’s still great quality. I have a gold filled ring that I rarely take off and after many hand washea and showers it’s been a year and it still looks like new.

They are still trying to close bc they never healed properly. For months with proper healing allows the skin to close and earrings to be changed with no issues. Because hers got infected, the healing process is almost as if she just got them pierced or worse. Besides getting a few nice posts, One thing that always helps is if you can get wires. I found that it’s not as much the material going through your ear but resting along the back of your ear, etc. wires allow air to be exposed to front and back and speed up the healing. I know she has only five that you can get some really dainty wires with barely any weight at all. You can even get those clear rub her back’s to slide on the 10th so that they won’t come out while she’s sleeping. Just make sure the back is not right against her ear as air needs to be exposed to the back for it to heal.

I liked the 14k 3 mm balls or birthstone earrings from Walmart that they pierce your ears with they can use the piercing gun and pierce them into a sterile wipe and you can just buy them that way. They are a little bit longer and thinner post that’s what helped with my girls when they just got them pierced and healing they were swollen and needed the extra length of the post for the ears to breath and heal.

Any idea how long this sale is going on? We bought a similar ring for our oldest daughter when she turned 13 and would like to get one for my 2nd daughter who will be 13 next month but we’ve got a big trip over Thanksgiving so no extra money right now.

Hi Sara! I’m not finding an end date listed. It appears to be available for a limited time. Hoping that helps!

    It’s only online?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Great question! When clicking through to the sale, I find it to list “Buy online Or order in store”. You could always call first before heading in to your location! Hope that helps!
