I drove 45 min in the snow and bad roads to see this in theaters earlier this month. I also was driving my sisters car and drove into the burm in the parking lot because I was not used to her car. I wish I would have known this- I would have stayed home and saved myself a bunch of money! 😂😂

  3. hamnah

Yes! I cannot wait. It wasn’t showing anywhere near me or I would have gladly shelled out all the money for it.

That book was SO bad. I cannot image who her audience is. No one I know anyone is real life who could finish it. Just LOOOTS of sponsored posts for it.

awww you didn’t like it? after listening to her book last year, i’m still motivated. I’m doing so much improvements in my life 🙂

    • Mo

Agreed. I couldn’t even finish the book – I don’t know if she sincerely thought that she was relating to people from all walks of like, or just entitled upper middle class women (which, don’t get me wrong, I consider myself to be in that category as well and her book was SO far from reality – very preachy, attempted humble bragging). Overcoming an 8 month infertility struggle to go on to have 4 kids? That’s not an infertility struggle – that’s just bad timing. The hardship that she and her husband went through – breaking up for two days – before getting engaged and married was an entire chapter. Maybe she needs to speak to women who have been in abusive relationships to truly know what relationship hardship is. I hate that she markets as self- help when she has no psychology background. Her specialty is Lifestyle, and her holier-than-thou narrow tone can truly be a damaging message for someone who has real struggles in their life.

As a social worker, I understand that this book will not apply to all. People who have been in terrible situations, been through unspeakable things may (or may not…depends on their personal outlook) find the book helpful. However, there is still an audience of people (clearly, given the size of her business and followers) who may not have been through those struggles who still are looking for a little motivation, a little let’s be honest about our own struggles, not push them to the back, type of conversation. This is not a competition about who had it worse, what’s life/relationship/experience was more horrible. That’s why a lot of people don’t go to therapy, don’t seek help, don’t talk about their experiences because they fear being told their struggle isn’t ‘real’, isn’t valid. Any struggle that a person has is valid, if it impedes their outlook, their daily life, brings them down or holds them back. Yes, not everyone’s trauma history will match. But, I don’t know that it’s a comparison game. I also don’t think you have to have a psychology background to talk about this…there are so many peer-to-peer groups now adays, there are people out there putting their experiences out into the world in an effort to help others and they may or may not have a psychology background. Sometimes lived experience is more valuable than what you can learn in a book. Everyone speaks from their own truth, whatever that is. She’s just speaking from hers, and if it relates to you awesome. If not, I hope you find something that does.

Thank you for this. Life in general is not a one size fits all. This is perfectly stated.

      • A

        Well said Mo

      • Amanda

Interesting b/c I haven’t read anything from/of her. Have only seen social media post from her and wondered what she is “helping” women with based on her tone and photos posted. Appearance isn’t everything but you certainly can gain a perspective on a person by seeing what they portray publicly on social media. Looks like my inclinations were correct. Thanks for writing all of that Mo. Blessings.

I appreciate reading honesty in the comments. Good and bad ones! I tried reading her book myself; and switched over to her podcasts and the audiobook.. I’ll take away the good nuggets when I can!

    • Alexandria

I won’t lie and say it didn’t provide motivation, because it did.
BUT she often (in her book and podcasts) uses other people’s quotes as her own. She rewords motivating quotes I’ve heard a million times before and people praise her for being so smart and wise. It’s quite unbelievable.
Also, I can’t really take her seriously when she acts like she worked from the ground up. I fully believe she works hard, don’t get me wrong, but how was she able to do all of what she’s done? She married a rich man who allowed her to stay at home, cook, and blog about it. I don’t really consider that self made. How did she gain access to celebrities for party planning? Her husband had all those connections. C’mon.
Lastly, she explains how her childhood was so bad one second and she couldn’t wait to get out, but the next second she says how great her parents were. I don’t think she really has how she feels about it all sorted out.
She’s amazing and motivating and great, IF you don’t think deep about what she’s saying and you’ve never listened to any other motivational speaker before.

    • Rebecca

I was not a fan either. Anymore though, any really “popular” books I read are pretty terrible.

    • teamdrakecoupons

Ditto! She starts out very relatable but a few chapters in derails from any Christian message. She preaches you can get to wherever you want by your own efforts if you persist and never take no for an answer. What if it isn’t God’s will for your life? Disobedience. She’s not for me and my house.

    • Stacy Harmon

I don’t even know who you are or what stage you’re in if this book didn’t resonate with you. Breaks my heart.

  5. Denise G.

Yesssssss! Oh I am so excited I wasn’t able to go to any of the theater showings because my little people rely on me to go to bed. I’ll have to try to get them to bed early that night so I can enjoy it.
