Worried about Porch Pirates? Get your packages delivered inside your garage!

As an Amazon Prime member, you can actually ensure all of your Amazon packages are delivered safely with Amazon Key for Garage, and you don’t have to give anyone access to the inside of your home!

Amazon Key for Garage lets Prime Members have packages securely delivered right inside your garage without sharing any codes or access privileges.

How does it work?

On delivery day, you will receive a notification in the morning with a 4-hour delivery window. Right before the driver arrives at your garage door, you will receive an “Arriving Now” notification. The driver then requests to open your garage with their Amazon hand-held scanner.

Amazon verifies that the package belongs to the address and that the driver is near the garage door before opening your garage door. The driver will place the package just inside your garage, out of your driving path, and then request to close the door. Once the delivery is complete and your garage door is closed, you will receive a final notification. The driver will always make sure your garage door is closed and secure before leaving the premises.

Think this sounds awesome?

Amazon Key for Garage is exclusively for Prime members in select cities and surrounding areas. To get started, you’ll need to purchase an Amazon Smart Garage Kit which is currently discounted by almost 40%!

The basic MyQ Smart Garage Hub is currently priced at just $49.99 shipped (regularly $79.99) and includes the Wi-Fi Hub, Door Sensor, Power Adapter, and Mounting Hardware. It is compatible with most brands of garage door openers made after 1993, including Chamberlain, Craftsman, Lift Master, Stanley, and more.

As an alternative, you can snag the MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener & Cloud Cam for $124.99 shipped. This package contains all of the same components as the garage hub, but also includes the Amazon Cloud Cam. The camera gives you visual access to your garage at any time so you can watch your package as it is being delivered or view of a video clip of it later. It even comes with night vision and a 2-way speaker so you can chat with anyone in the garage.

Are there any other benefits?

The MyQ hub is great for more than just deliveries! You can set up the app to alert you if the garage door is still open when you leave the house or after a certain amount of time has gone by. If you regularly forget to close the garage at night, you can also set a schedule to have it automatically close at a certain time. Open/close your garage at anytime right from the app – great for letting the kiddos put away their bikes or closing your garage door remotely if you forgot to close it before leaving.

Note that select features require a subscription, but all features listed above are included with the device.

    Still creepy.

    • Amanda

      I agree! NO thank you!

    • Wifeandmomof3

      Yes!!! I agree.

    • Katie S

      Super creepy!

  2. Jennifer

The stuff in my garage is more valuable than any single Amazon package. From the company that has people listening to your household conversations via Alexa. No thanks.

    • Sara

Jennifer, FYI, you’re aware that you can change the privacy settings on your Echo devices, right? It’s so easy. Just figured I’d mention. 😀

      • Amber

I’m sure they totally stop just from changing your settings…..

        • Ok

          Paranoid, much?

          • mel

Nah, not paranoid. It’s just creepy that someone else is listening in to your conversations. What I say in my house should be for me & my family, not some random stranger to decide that I need to be bombarded with emails about items we were discussing.

    • Stormy

With you on this! Did you know there have been cases where they subpoena Alexa? Crazy huh?! We’ve been massive “victims” of identity theft and to each his own, but we are trying to get off the grid. Totally. Ack….criminals 😡

  3. Sara

FWIW, I love MyQ. It’s an awesome home automation option that gives me viability and remote control of my garage doors.

I have expensive pharmaceuticals delivers weekly and I wish garage delivery was an option to protect them!

    • Sara

      *visibility

    • Mary

I agree with others that say it’s still creepy, but you make a really good case for when and why this is necessary. Glad it is an option for you!

  4. Ben

I will stick with the Post Office. I sign papers that I can use the physical address of my post office and then my po box as my unit #. Fed Ex/ Amazon/ UPS etc. deliver package into post office. Clerks sign for package and then a notice goes in my box saying I got a package.

  5. Jodi P

Yeah. The delivery person can get a look inside the garage, and let their friends know what to find.

Aren’t these delivery people just miscellaneous gig workers, like Uber drivers? Are they bonded and insured?

    • Valerie

I deliver for amazon through a company that has the contract with Amazon. If you’re talking about Amazon Flex, they are independent contractors. However, the amazon vans are through a delivery service provider, contracted through Amazon. At the end of the day, we couldn’t care less about what’s in your garage. We’re loaded down with 200+ packages per day and a small time frame to get them delivered. The goal is 35 seconds per delivery. So from the moment I park outside your home, grab your package, scan it, deliver it, take a picture, and make it back to the van; it’s 35 seconds. Anything more than that and it took too long. We don’t have time to scope out your garage.

      • Ok

Everyone on here is negative and paranoid 🙄

        • Ella P

Makes sense… 35 seconds… That’s why you all drive at speeds that are mind blowing in small neighborhoods while kids are out playing, not a good look for any company

          • Hk

110% agree! I’m constantly motioning for them to slow down

  6. MamaBear

Everything in the world comes with risk!

  7. E

Nope nope and nope. Why would you willingly give amazon access to your house or garage? Or all your conversations?

  8. Jodi P

If I were the delivery person, I’d be afraid the neighbors would call the cops. And you know how the cops don’t like to ask too many questions.

The fact that Amazon has random people who drive their own cars to deliver now with absolutely no way to verify that’s who they truly are is very disappointing! Some of them are very sketchy and I wouldn’t want them in my garage… i barley want them in the driveway! Last week there were 3 people in one car that came to deliver one tiny envelope! My neighbor thought they were breaking in and came over to check on things. I wish they would only use ups, usps or their amazon marked vans.

  10. Concerned mom

I see the people they contract out deliveries to and no way do I want them having access to my garage. The delivery driver is often a girl in an unmarked personal vehicle and a guy is usually the driver. Sometimes there are multiple passengers. Not just creepy. Potentially inviting yourself to be victimized. Robbed or worse later. Amazon can keep their service.

    • Laura

YES! this!! – I had no idea who was at my house one day. Crappy rusted van with 4 people in it – sitting in my driveway. They placed my package in front of my garage door, which I couldn’t see at the time because of my view point. But if I was gone, and my kids were home and this person were opening my garage door. This would most definitely freak them out. No thank you!

  11. Peaches

While I love my MyQ smart garage door hub I don’t see this as all that since it only applies to Amazon packages. Oddly enough not all of my packages are from Amazon!

  12. Jenn

I can’t even get Amazon drivers to open my screen door so my packages aren’t out in the open, there’s no way they’re taking the time to open a garage door (if I were willing to let them do that).

  13. nina c

Funny share… I asked a subcontracted driver to slow down, my kids were playing in the yard, and he flipped me the bird for as long as he could be seen… just sailing down the block! It really was more comical than not😂🤣 but they sure drive fast 🎢 I could see how this service will be to each their own situation. I always appreciate a delivery bird or not

  14. Laura

Ya, like I would ever let an amazon driver access my garage. No way.

  15. Cw

Next thought: when you give someone a key to your house, if you are robbed, Insurance companies often release their liability to cover your stolen goods in a claim situation. So there’s a good chance the same could be said by your insurance company by giving Amazon a key to the contents of your garage. I’m guessing this was their new idea because their dropping off packages inside your front door didn’t go too well.

Nope, no thanks, no one needs access to my house.

  16. mel

When my grandmother was growing up, they had groceries delivered. The milk man would put the carafe inside the fridge in the morning if your door was unlocked! Times have changed though, and nobody trusts like that anymore.

    • Jodi P

Back in the day, everyone in your town knew the milkman because he’d been working for the local dairy for thirty years. He may have even owned the dairy. So him walking into your house wasn’t any more creepy than your grandpa stopping by lol

  17. Elsa

I’d rather just use their Amazon Locker service, thank you very much. Bit of a hassle to have to go and get my packages, but better than someone accessing the inside of my garage or house!

  18. Carrie

We tried this for the first time today. The idiot driver didn’t know how to do it, apparently and proceeded to lock my garage door with the handle, then open it with the app, in turn, breaking my garage door and burning out my motor. We are currently waiting on an Amazon claims representative to call us back. What a gigantic mess.
