See what Hip2Save readers have to say about these books….
I cannot say enough good things about this book. We are on baby step number three and it has been a true blessing to our family!
Highly recommend Smart Money Smart Kids. It really helped us shape how we are working with our kids and learning about money.
He has really changed our family’s lives in such a positive way! We have followed his plan and are so close to being debt free with money set aside for retirement and college.
Love Dave! We became debt free, saved for kids college and are working on paying off our mortgage because of this book. Life changing!
Didn’t know I loved Dave Ramsey until I started reading his books. Solid advice, makes sense, and it applies to regular ‘ol middle-class families. Definitely made a difference for us – proud to say we’ve been working through the baby steps with success!
I read the TMM book and paid off over $26,000 in less than a year.

(Thanks, Betty!)
I love the audible version of Retire Inspired. You feel like he was talking to you individually to give you retirement advice. That and Total Money Makeover have changed my life forever.
How cool! Thanks for the feedback! Good to know how helpful those have been for you!
I met Dave Ramsey at a book signing. He was talking and smiling with people as he autographed his new book. I had an older one… stood in line, waited for 30 minutes for him to sign. So excited! “Dave, I paid off over $100K using your program! I wish my husband and I would have taken your FPU years ago!” Nothing. NO response whatsoever. He signed the book – the old book – but didn’t look up, didn’t smile, didn’t say a word. Here’s someone standing in front of him excited to pay that much off? And you don’t say anything at all? I stood there and watched – and I was not the only one treated like this. Anyone who did not have the newly-released book for him to sign, had their older book signed but no other interaction at all. People with the new book? He was very engaged with them, as much as he could be with moving the line along.
So he’s kind of a jerk, in my opinion, just due to that. But we were able to pay off a ton of money after attending FPU and I wish we had done a program like this when we first got married. I highly recommend the course, if you can do it, but you can do it by reading his books. We still follow most of what we learned though I did end up getting a credit card just to be able to rent a car locally as they would not accept debit cards.
Oh darn! SO sorry to hear about that experience, Carol! Thanks for sharing that with us. Super glad you have been able to pay off your debt! Congrats on all of your success! SO awesome!
I’m not surprised Carol that he’s that way. Lots of people that get money and get famous forget about the ones that got them there. I follow his advice also but I keep a credit card. I’ve had a checkbook stolen before and they cleaned out my bank account. I feel like there is more protection if you have a credit card when theft happens. I use it like a debit card and keep it paid off. Obviously he has to practice what he preaches but the credit card thing is the only thing I don’t agree with him on.
Looking at the positive, you paid off your big debt thanks to his advice😉
Living like no one else!
Sorry you had a bad experience. That’s crazy. Congratulations on paying off so much debt!
Yes I believe it! He has always seemed like he struggles with arrogance. Sorry that happened to you. My family has followed his baby step program for years it does work! We are debt free. Old books work just as well as the new ones
I went to one of his live events and he signed a prior edition of The Total Money Makeover for me. He was very friendly to me and I didn’t feel like I had been treated differently than other attendees. He even posed for a picture with me and answered a couple of questions I had.
His advice is spot-on! I read it in the 90’s and we’re currently living debt free. Highly recommend
Yay! That’s wonderful! Thanks so much for the recommendation, Lara!
I’m sorry but DAVE Ramsey is garbage, plain and simple. He has taken information that has been out for years and put them all together in books….WOW, what a smart person. But for someone that calls people stupid for having debit needs to get a life. He is a millionaire because if people like you that thinks he knows what he is talking about. Over 50% of the time he is wrong with answers to phone calls that he takes live. People please have some common sense.
Dave love him , hate him.. or neither. He has helped many make a lot smarter decisions with their money. I can respect that.
I listen to his show occasionally to just hear others stories. I have a co-worker that’s turned off by him and it’s kind of sad because he’s exactly the type of person that needs Dave.
