Get ready, Amazon shoppers!

Starting in July, over 1,150 Kohl’s brick-and-mortar stores across the country will begin accepting free and unpackaged returns for Amazon customers (you can read Kohl’s initial announcement here if you missed it).

Pair this with Amazon’s 1-day shipping for Prime members, and you pretty much have convenience at your fingertips! 🙌🏻 This means you’ll be able to purchase just about anything sold by Amazon (such as our fave Amazon dresses!), receive it in 1-2 days, and return it completely free at Kohl’s if it doesn’t work out for you (plus, no box or packing label needed)! 😱

Kohl's shopping cart by checkout

While this program has been available in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Milwaukee areas, it is expected to roll out in all 48 states in July. Kohl’s is expected to have designated Amazon pop-up shops located in store where you’ll be able to make your returns, as well as explore and purchase Amazon devices (at 200 stores).

Plus, you’ll receive Kohl’s coupons after making their Amazon returns! Note that coupon values may vary – but we scored a 25% off your entire purchase coupon (or 35% off if you use your Kohl’s charge card)! 🤩 Sweeeeeet!!

How to make Amazon returns at Kohl’s stores:

  1. Begin your return with Amazon’s Online Return Center.
  2. Select your Kohl’s Dropoff option.
  3. Amazon will email you a QR code.
  4. Bring the item(s) you’re returning to a participating Kohl’s store. Then show the QR code on your smartphone to a Kohl’s associate.
  5. Kohl’s will pack, label, and ship your return for free!

Amazon Prime Boxes

You may be asking… but doesn’t Amazon always offer free returns? Yes, eligible products can be returned to Amazon using a trackable shipping method (including an option where you drop off your return at an authorized UPS location of your choice). However, if you live near a Kohl’s store, this may be a nicer option for you!

Check out a couple of comments from readers who have already used this service:

“I’ve been doing this for a while now – Kohl’s is like 5 minutes from me, so it is very convenient. In addition, they always offer me a $5 off an in-store Kohl’s purchase every time I do an Amazon return.”

“With Kohl’s, you don’t have to package or label the items you want to return to Amazon. You just pick Kohl’s and you get a QR code from Amazon, then take the item(s) to Kohl’s, show them the code, give them the stuff, and you’re done. They even have special “Amazon return” parking spaces. At least the ones around here do.”

Returns of Kohl’s products is hassle enough at Kohl’s, I can’t imagine this!

    • Denise

I was just thinking the same thing

    • Lacey

Agreed! I giggle every time I hear about this.

    • Amy

Ditto! I was going to comment that nothing is easy at my Kohl’s location.

    • Nicole

It’s nothing like a return at Kohl’s! Hand them the item, show them a QR code on your phone (or print it) and that’s it. They print you a return receipt and as a bonus, it has a 25% off your Kohl’s purchase coupon for that day in-store. My Kohl’s I frequent even has a separate counter for this, right next to the entrance. Usually a couple minutes wait in line, tops, and less than a minute to process the return.

    • Diana

I heard from the manager that there will be a separate team and space setup only for amazon returns.

  2. missy

Shockingly it’s been a breeze for me. I’ve returned 2 items.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yay! SO glad to hear that, Missy!

    • Dick

Refused return at Kohls because I live more than 8 miles from Kohls, how stupid is that

      • NICOLE M RAYMOND

Solution: I had the same problem. Added an address (a family member that lived close enough, but any address will work) to my account that was in the appropriate distance. Continue to ship to my correct address, but when I want to return something, I select the item, and right next to the item is a link “change address”…now select the address that is close enough, and you will be able to return to Kohl’s.

  3. Ivan

Anytime I need to return something to Amazon, they send me a free postage paid label. Do they charge non-prime members postage? Or what is the reason to use Kohls?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Ivan! It is just another easy option to have available, if you have a Kohl’s near you.

      • Ivan

Might use it when I have something to return but don’t have the box…thx!

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

          Good idea! You’re welcome!

    • boltsmom

I’ve been charged return shipping and I’m a Prime member. It was on an item that wasn’t listed as “free returns”. I actually opted to keep it and sell it rather than losing the cost of shipping.

    • Nicole

I am used to being offered free UPS drop off as an option, but the last couple of times, my only free options were Amazon drop-off location or Kohl’s drop off. I kind of wonder if they’re trying to encourage more people to do this as they can probably save on shipping costs and it encourages more traffic into Kohl’s (who I assume is really gaining an advantage because of it).

    • Elizabeth

It’s marketing. The idea is if you go to the store to return something you will be more likely to buy something in their store.

  4. Sarah

Soooo I just bought the wrong size mattress and can’t return it unless I “package” it back up. You think kohl’s would take it for me???

    • missy

You can only return packages at Kohls if Amazon tells u to return it there. I had to return a foldable bed and Amazon told me to take it to ups.

      • Sarah

Ugh yes looks like I’m stuck with it. 😐

    • Julie

They have a return policy for mattresses! I think it’s once in a lifetime 😂

      • Phyllis C Gipson

Do you have to box it up?

  5. Katiefal

You don’t have to box up the item – that’s the appeal. I’ve never done it but I’ve heard they have a dedicated Amazon return window

  6. Amber

Returns are not always free for me. I’m a prime member and it’s always free to return a product that comes damaged or not as advertised, etc. But if I simply change my mind about an item and it’s not damaged or defective I have to pay to ship it back. For instance I bought the echo dot and then a few days later saw a deal on it for significantly cheaper. So I bought another one with the good deal and returned the first one. But I had to pay shipping costs on the way back for the first one because there was nothing wrong with it (I hadn’t even opened it), I had just changed my mind about it. In situations like that it would be nice to have the option to return it to Kohl’s for free. I’m excited to try this service out when I need to.

    • Chelsea

Amber, I absolutely agree. Sometimes I’m reluctant to purchase from amazon just because I’ll be stuck with it if I don’t want to pay the $5.99 shipping fee to send it back for a refund. This makes me more willing to try things from amazon because now I can return it with ease and no extra fees If it doesn’t work out.

      • Mcdull

I have used Kohl’s returns a coupe of times which made me considering buying from Amazon more because of no-cost return though I still prefer local stores to support local business.
However, the last 3 items I tried to return, one is a simple Nerf toy, there were no Kohl’s drop off option and the only drop off option is 10 miles away!
OK, Amazon, you lost my business.

    • MrsGarfield

This is one of the reason that I prefer to buy from (and/or price match) at a local store than from Amazon. I ended up significantly less things from Amazon and I also cancelled my Prime membership. I ended up saving money this way!

    • Maria

I live in Milwaukee so we’ve had the service for awhile. I had a similar scenario at Christmas time where I found something at a much better price and was thinking I could return the item at Kohl’s only to find out that returning to kohl’s was only an option if the item was listed as free returns. So in the scenario you mentioned it may not work. I have used the service for items that are listed as free returns and it is great. There is a separate line that is always nice and short and I always get a coupon for 25% off my entire Kohl’s purchase.

  7. JJ

We have used this multiple times already and it truly is so easy, fast and convenient!! It has definitely factored into our buying decisions. My husband bought 3 pairs of shoes since he wasn’t sure which would fit the best. Kept his favorite and took the other two pairs to Kohl’s. He was in and out in minutes!

  8. Karen

My husband has used this service several times and it has worked well for him. An added benefit is that they also give you a percent off coupon for Kohls. If I remember right it was 20 % off.

    • Mcdull

Do remember that Kohl’s has every item price jacked up for their regular 10-30% coupon. Just check regular price of the same item online and you will know.

  9. Leavesbegintofall

Omg my returns at kohl’s already take forever. Although I absolutely love the idea of being able to return amazon purchases to b&m stores, if there’s a company that does not need to be handling returns on behalf of another company, it’s definitely kohl’s!

  10. Katie

Everyone is bashing Kohl’s returns, good grief. To each their own, but in my opinion Kohl’s has one of the easiest and most lenient return policies of any store! I’m excited for this Amazon returns addition as well.

    • Dayna

I was thinking the same. There are three Kohl’s stores near me and returns have been quick and easy at all of them. Maybe it’s because I always use my Kohl’s card so they can look things up easily. I’m excited to see this as I’m hesitant to buy clothing and shoes from Amazon due to the cost to return, and this will remove that barrier.

    • Lori B

I agree with you, their policy and the process has always been a breeze for me. I find places like Target much more constrictive with a firm 90 day return window. As a caregiver for my elderly mother with dementia my time out to run errands is hit and miss. I have a shirt that I will not be able to return because it has sat waiting for me to get a chance to go to the store. At least with Kohls I don’t have the time constraint. I try to get things returned in a timely manner, but not always possible.

  11. Lori B

Isn’t this just in select cities at first. I don’t think it is across the country yet. At least everything I’ve read just shows a few cities. It would be great if it was everywhere, although I wish Kohls would put the customer service desk in the front of the store instead of all the way to the back.

  12. Cathy Benjamin

Can I return a Vera Bradley purse I just got as a holiday gift? I do not want the credit to go on the giver’s charge. Please explain. Thank you. I have the amazon.com receipt that came with the gift.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Cathy! I do find a “return a gift” option when clicking through the Amazon link above. If you need further assistance with that, it will provide a prompt to chat online with customer service. Hope this helps!

  13. CJ

What about discreet items that you want to return. Can I wrap it before I drop off at Kohls or UPS?

  14. Anthony Jones

I will like to return a pink nabe tablet for kids, because it is broken.

  15. Anthony Jones
