Oh my looooooord. I know where i will NOT be eating on June 6th. To be a fly on the wall to watch this happen at my Mcdonalds…

    • Lo

Lol I agree. I can already picture the manager at my mcds. 🤣

  2. Lee

OMG! Not something I would have tried but for one of my extra useless coins from travel, I’m game. I likely have at least one duplicate of something worth less than a penny in my stash of foreign coins. 🙂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Perfect! Enjoy!

  3. NC

How do we tell which locations are participating?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Good question! You could always call in to your location to be sure!

    • C

I was wondering the same thing- the linked article has a link for “nearest participating McDonald’s “ but literally it just showed all the local ones lol… last time they had that coin promo with the sandwiches some managers didn’t even know about the promo even though they had the coins! Idk if corporate isn’t good at communicating or if the local stores are just clueless

  4. Carole

That stroopwafel McFlurry is definitely going on my cheat day list!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I want to try that one too!

    • Nicole

      Agreed!!!! 🙂

      • Cindy

I have a hard time getting my order correct on normal days. This is gonna be a no-go day for me. 😂

    • Stacey

I was thinking the same thing!

  5. LaToya

My teens work at a McDonald’s.
This is gonna be a hot mess – LOL

  6. D

A have a bunch of canadian pennies I would love to get rid of lol

    • Shannon

Canada doesn’t produce pennies anymore. Hang on to them!

  7. irene

Oh boy, this will definitely be a mess at our local McD. They can barely grasp USD currency when I hand them additional change after punching in a round dollar amount. Thank goodness we don’t have to deal with exchange rates. Heads would explode.

    • Just a thought

It’s super annoying to the cashier when someone hands over change after the total has already been calculated. Why do you feel the need to talk down about food service workers, yet there you are at McD, eating the food they prepare and serve?

      • Nels

Their job is literally consists of taking money and giving change. If it’s “super annoying” to go that – maybe get another job. Oh wait… other jobs require skills

        • Rachel

Please don’t judge fast food workers. They are working an honest job and doing their best. I have never worked fast food, but I can tell you restaurant work is highly stressful and doesn’t pay a lot. Show some kindness.

          • HipUP

            i agree

          • JudgeJudyFan

Agree! Restaurant work and especially FAST food work is highly stressful.

          • Casey

Totally agree. You can always tell the people that haven’t worked in customer service. Working a retail job should be mandatory to learn how to treat people.

        • Ann

That was super rude. Respect all people Nels!!!!

      • Justine

Yes, before the cashier enters it in the machine, tell them you are giving them exact change, or whatever amount you decide to give before they calculate it. Otherwise it’s more complicated..

      • irene

Just speaking from experience with any cashier, not just fast food. Basic math is not complicated. If you paid attention in your third grade basic math class, it shouldn’t pose a challenge. The cash register doesn’t do everything for you, including using your brain and smiling at a customer. I’m sure your “annoyed” face isn’t good customer service either. Simple math skills and a pleasant demeanor during a short transaction should be a given, but unfortunately not always the case. Do better… consider it constructive criticism.

        • Grace

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to pay attention in third grade math class. Some kids have ADHD or other learning difficulties, others have tough circumstances at home which impact their ability to focus on school and others may be intellectually limited. Not everyone is born with the same opportunities as others, for instance kids born into poverty who attend less than stellar schools. Perhaps your cashier is just having a bad day cognitively—we all have days we are sleep deprived, stressed or otherwise flustered (some days I can’t recall what day it is, much less count change and I have two doctorate degrees!). Trying to put yourself in another person’s shoes may generate more understanding, kindness and peace in your life, as you will be less frustrated and angry with others. Namaste.

          • Sara

Competence in basic math is a requirement of any position anywhere that requires counting money. Being frustrated with someone that can’t fulfill basic job requirements is perfectly reasonable.

I have moderate-to-severe ADHD, and I had no problems paying attention in class.

          • irene

Do I sound angry or frustrated to you? It’s disappointment with the low level of competency in any vocation, either as a cashier or in business. I try to help them with the math, but it’s amazing that a 10% discount requires a calculator when a manual override is required. Let’s not make excuses for our shortcomings — plenty to go around here. You sound like a very nice person, but when you know better, you do better.

      • Amalia

If these kids, or adults, can’t count simple change lord help us all. It’s ridiculous to watch some of these cashiers try to figure out simple math in their heads.

  8. Erica

Heck yes!! I’ve got a whole jar full of foreign currency, pennies essentially!!! Thanks

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Awesome! You’re very welcome, Erica!

  9. Amy

How in the world are the employees going to know the value of the currency?
    I smell d i s a s t e r.

    • mamasweetpea08

reading the article, it looks like they are doing an exchange of ANY value foreign currency for one of the worldwide favorites items. “Foreign currency does not bear any relationship to the value of the menu items and is not intended as a means to purchase the items, but rather is a way for customers to participate in this promotion. “

      • Shop624

        👏🏼

    • MARY BRINER

They dont have to know value. The deal is you bring just one coin from another country. It can be just a dime from Canada.

  10. Kristen

Cool promotion! I too thought this was going to be a hot mess, but they don’t need to count the foreign currency or even know what it is. Should be easy peasy as long as they’re aware of the promo and how to ring it up.

  11. Sandy

“Foreign currency does not bear any relationship to the value of the menu items and is not intended as a means to purchase the items, but rather is a way for customers to participate in this promotion.”
So this means you can only order off the International menu if you have foreign currency. They aren’t taking it as payment. Kind of misleading and they will go exchange the money and make more of a profit.

    • Julie

So you are saying we have the foreign currency as a right to order but we still pay for the item in American?

      • mel

No. You exchange any foreign currency and you can choose an item from the Worldwide Favorites menu. You can’t exchange it for anything else, like a big mac or kids meal.

    • MommySpendsLess

My guess is that they can’t legally take it as payment. This is a marketing gimmick – the equivalent of saying bring in a button or bottle cap to trade for one of these select promotional items.

  12. Kaylee

It’s one PIECE of foreign currency in exchange for one foreign menu item

  13. E

Sounds like a mess but could be a fun treat. Our McDonald’s is two minutes away but always has a huge drive thru line (I’ve never even been inside it).

  14. Teresa

So wait, are you saying I can exchange one of those things from Canada that looks like a US Penny and get a sandwich? Or are they going to figure out what the coin is worth and give that to you toward the sandwich?

    • Kaylee

Yes, their website says one piece for one menu item👍🏼

    • Sandra Rowe

You can get it for a penny.

    • s

It’s really not that complicated. If people are having this much trouble understanding the promo, I can only imagine what it will be like at McDonald’s.

      • Shop624

agree – reading is fundamental .

  15. Pharmchick104

Interesting!! Def will have to exchange some of my many foreign coins for a stroopwafel ice cream!!!

  16. Heather C

I have all types of coins and dollars that have been passed down from the elders over the years. The envelope just gets bigger. I wonder how they would know what it’s worth?

    • Jodi P

The value doesn’t matter. Just give them one coin, any coin and they’ll give you the item.

      • Justine

        Wow, what a deal!

  17. Meredith

Yikes. This comment is pretty rude and unnecessary. There’s no need for you to judge what the workers are making or how they do their jobs. I know people who get paid a lot more than that and do way less work. You try being on your feet for 8+ hours, keeping up with rushes, dealing with customers, etc. It’s great you’re on such a high horse but maybe you should come down and join the rest of us who aren’t worried about other people’s wages. Either enjoy the promo or move on.

  18. Anni

Time to break out the pesos

  19. patricialavenz-goff

I don’t use the McDonalds app. The one by us doesn’t like the coupons. She will change the price if you use a coupon. If it is on the 2 for $6 menu she will change it to 2 for $10 and then use your coupon. She just says she took the $1 off so why am I upset. She says the coupons are not McDonalds coupons but they honor them which confused me.

    • Nicole

you need to save your receipts and contact corporate. also, i would use the app to place an order, she cant change the price if its already bought on the app

  20. Roeseeohh

All this Baht and finally somewhere to use it. 👌🏽

  21. Amber

“” *At part. McDonald’s from 2-5pm on June 6. Limit one exchange per customer at front counter only. Only recognized international currency accepted. Excludes Double Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger. Foreign currency does not bear any relationship to the value of the menu items and is not intended as a means to purchase the items, but rather is a way for customers to participate in this promotion. “”

  22. Sara

I’m not giving up any of my foreign currency. It’s not an investment. I just like collecting it.

Cheesy Bacon Fries were available in the US in January and February this year. None of the advertising mentioned Australia. It wasn’t anything special. It tasted okay, but the cheese sauce was cold. They also skimped on the bacon. It was $3.58 + tax. I can get cheesy bacon fries from Wendy’s for less than that.

    • Bobbie-Jo Elwood

But can you get cheesy bacon fries for one Canadian penny because that’s all you would need to get them during this promotion.

      • Shannon

Don’t give away your Canadian pennies! They no longer produce pennies in Canada anymore so they could be worth something in the future! A nickel or dime would be better! I have an Indian rupee which is worth about 1 cent. So they’d accept that?!?

        • C

@shannon- they don’t? I could’ve sworn 2 years ago when I was there for the 150 they had pennies

    • Clippy

This is a nice, fun promo … Nearly free depending on the coins you have.
But some people will never be happy.
If you don’t like the food you really don’t have to participate.

      • Sara

Why is it when anyone gives a dissenting opinion they are essentially told to suck it up? My post doesn’t mean I am unhappy. You seem to be reading way too much into my post. I merely stated four things:

1)I don’t want to give up my foreign currency.
2)The cheesy bacon fries aren’t new to the US.
3)I was disappointed with the fries. They weren’t bad. They weren’t good either.
4)Wendy’s has cheesy bacon fries for less than the full price McDonald’s was charging.

        • nicole

because you’re literally complaining about a promotion where you can get select food items for ANY piece of foreign currency… and surprise, its not only for cheesy bacon fries!

also, pretty sure by the time a Canadian penny is worth something (eyeroll) you’ll probably be long dead lol

          • Shannon

            Sooo rude!

            • Jeannie

I have to say I agree. So sick of people whining about everything. You don’t want to participate, don’t. No store/restaurant has to do any promotion. Nothing is good enough for anyone anymore or done to their expectation. People are complaining about how this is going to be a disaster, etc. and putting down (essentially) fast food workers, and you clearly see they didn’t even take time to read the article before chiming in. Simple — you don’t want to participate – don’t. You want to eat somewhere else – go eat there.

              • Sara

You apparently didn’t read my comment. I wasn’t complaining about the promotion. Using a low value foreign coin for this is a good value, but I’m not participating because I like to collect foreign currency. It may not be worth much, but I like having it.

I also gave my experience with the cheesy bacon fries and pointed out that they were already sold in the US. This marketing campaign makes it look like these items are new to the US.

  23. sne3103

I’d like to take my twin 4 yr olds to get something. Will we count as 3 customers, or can I only do one item?

  24. Julie B

Hmmmm… can I use my ChuckECheese coins? My kids all grew up and I found the baggie of them last time I was decluttering. Not even sure if Chuck E Cheese will take them anymore.

    • Krisp

How is that foreign currency?! Really??

  25. Julie B

Hmmmm… can I use my ChuckECheese coins? My kids all grew up and I found the baggie of them last time I was decluttering. Not even sure if Chuck E Cheese will take them anymore.

    • s

Is Chuck e cheese a foreign country?

      • Krisp

Apparently to some making this way more complicated then it is.

      • C

@s well they have their own currency (while they do accept usd- many countries do/use usd eg Ecuador, Bahamas, etc) and their own flag 😂😂😂 maybe they should claim sovereignty 😂😂😂

  26. Amber Etherton

Hmm I noticed in the fine print at the very bottom of the article that the promotion excludes the bacon burger 🙁

    • Krisp

It says double. The single is included.

  27. heather b

My McDonalds has this going all week!

  28. J.H.509

I live 10 miles from Mexico. Our city McAllen had been all over the news recently. And we live a street behind McDonald’s. I DO NOT want to see how this turns out. There is Mexican currency in this city on a daily basis. All I can say is I feel bad for our McDonald’s workers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  29. Andyscottage

I tried the cheesy bacon Australia fries, absolutely disgusting. They were a oily cheesy greasy tasteless item, in my opinion. I threw them away!!

    • Shannon

You pretty much described everything on the McDonald’s menu lol. I feel ill after everything I eat there!

  30. S. Chalmers

FINALLY a use for the Canadian coins that I keep finding in my rolls of quarters… You know the ones, you typically find them when putting the coins in the washer and/or dryer and they keep getting spit back out and after the 4th or 5th time that happens you look at it, cuss a bit as you have to go back to your house to get an AMERICAN quarter. In fact, I may give each of my friends one so that they may go.
BTW… I mean no offense to Canada, their coins, washing machines and/or dryer OR American quarters.

    • Melanie

Hahaha! Someone will still probably find something snarky to say. But you made my day with this comment.

  31. karen

From a transplanted Canadian: I was really hoping they would have “POUTINE” => from Quebec, Canada McDonald’s would be on the list…that stuff is like crack for my kids. I never had the Australian fries…but, according to one of the comments I doubt I would try it.

  32. Toni R

I’m gonna try using Chuck E Cheese coins, lol!

  33. ashley

Did anyone get to deal with a foriegn coin?

  34. A

Y local McDs said you had to match the foreign currency to the country of the item you got. I was craving the Stroopwafel McFlurry all day and since I had a Canadian coin, they only gave me the chicken sandwich. I was a bit bummed

  35. Kay Bowman

We just got two of the bacon burgers for two foreign coins. Burgers were great. There was no line. The manager could not have been nicer.
