Wow, it’s amazing how far interior design has come with these things..so cost effective and efficient also.
I know! Such an easy home update! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Nita!
Has anyone used these? How good is the adhesive? I wonder how well they hold up after a bit of time.
Am I over thinking this? Love to try them but how do you maneuver around outlets?
Hi there! You would need to cut them to fit around outlets. Hope that helps!
Hi, I commented about using these tiles on the Hip2behome sister site. It’s a long post; I hope it’s OK that I just copied and pasted it here! Hope it helps!
I can vouch for the Smart Tiles! Thanks to a similar deal posted here a few months ago, I bought the tiles from Home Depot and did our kitchen backsplash. We can’t afford a total reno right now, but new paint and these tiles really made a difference and look really good.
Note that these are STICKERS, not actual tiles (there are stick-on tiles, but these aren’t them). They are 3-dimensional and feel slightly tacky, like puffy kiddie stickers that are photos (like of cats and dogs). They can go on flat painted walls or smooth tile, but I put them over slightly textured tiles with pretty wide grout lines, and they stick. My original tiles even have a border that ends with curved bullnose tile, and I just stopped right before the curve, and they still look realistic just ending unless you are told they’re fake or touch them. (The manufacturer sells stick-on edging to finish, but that wasn’t an option for me.) They connect together like a jigsaw puzzle, so there aren’t any seams. You can cut them with scissors or a straight-edge.
This brand seems to be the highest quality (I tested a couple of other brands). I picked the Muretto Durango style because they are darker and I figured they would show less of the grout indents underneath and less dirt, and also because there were lots of customer photos (on Home Depot site) so you could really see them in real life.
They aren’t cheap (but no contractor/special equipment/tiling skills/tearing out and rebuilding), and you have to be precise around outlets, etc. and expect waste when the interlocking pieces need to get cut to fit. But they have brought my kitchen into this century and give me a couple of years before a big spend!
Thanks a TON for taking the time to leave such a helpful comment! SO glad these worked out so well in your kitchen!
