I’ve had my L.L. Bean backpack since my freshman year of high school. I’m 31 and it’s still going strong! They hold up to wear and tear from my kids, too. I’ve had LL. Bean, Land’s End, and Pottery Barn for my kids and LL. Bean is by far my favorite.

L.L. Bean stands behind their products and if you have an issue, they will resolve it! Best company out there!

    Is it free returns?

    • Cassandra (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Luna! Return shipping is FREE for L.L.Bean Mastercard members only. However if you’re not an L.L. Bean Mastercard member and you need a replacement item ASAP, L.L. Bean will waive the standard shipping fee when they send your replacement. You will still be charged $6.50 to ship your returned item if using the UPS convenience label. Hope that helps!

      • Luna

Thank you so much for the info!

        • Cassandra (Hip Sidekick)

          You bet, Luna!

  2. Cassie

These are indestructible. If only they had better patterns!! My child doesnโ€™t like any of their patterns so Iโ€™ll end up buying another backpack from Pottery Barn that wonโ€™t make it through the year ๐Ÿ™ LL Bean is the best. Donโ€™t hesitate if your kids find a pattern they like.

    • Shannon

I agree! I have an LL bean backpack for my teen and he carries a 16 lb load daily! (I weighed his backpack lol) and it still looks brand new 4 years in! My other kids have gone through many pb kids backpacks that fall apart. I usually sew them back together. The patterns are much cuter. Same with the water bottles. The funtainer bottles are awesome. They never leak, easy to take apart and clean etc. The pb kids bottles are cute but very hard to take apart, the lid breaks off and they leak. My kids teacher even mentioned to me about the bad bottle once!

    • Rae

I wish these had nicer prints too because the price, and quality is so nice… Although we like our Pottery barn backpack. My daughter got it second hand. So it was used for two years, and we’ve used it for 3. I decided to replace it because the matching lunch bag is finally showing age from food spills and so much washing.

    Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome!

  4. Jamie

The toddler backpacks are great too, my son has used his for a daycare bag for 3 years now and it still looks basically new

    • Mandi

Agree! All of the back packs are great. I bought my boys toddler back packs eight and nine years ago and they still use them as carry ons on trips!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How cool! Thanks for the feedback, Jamie! Good to know how well his backpack has held up!

  5. Ashley

I used to feel that they were indestructible since I still have mine from highschool – until this year. I bought one for my daughter for kindergarten and i noticed thereโ€™s a hole in the bottom after light use. Really disappointed- I was hoping she would at least have it for a few years.

    • Amy

I haven’t bought one in years, but if I remember they have a lifetime warranty with them. Contact LLBean. My babysitter returned her’s that ripped and got a gift card to buy another. Something to check into at least.

      • Shannon

I think they changed the warranty from lifetime to a year?

    • C

I would contact them. I know the warranty has changed, but you still have a year to return it if you are not happy. After that, there needs to be a defect.
Between my kids and myself we have had a dozen LL Bean backpacks over the years. All but one of them has held up great. I was able to return the bag I was unhappy with and get a full refund. We ended up ordering another style and that one still looks new a year later.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! Sorry to hear about that, Ashley! Thanks so much for the honest comment!

  6. VL

I used the coupon code and am still being charges shipping. Is there a trick?

    • Cassandra (Hip Sidekick)

Hi VL! The shipping charges should be deducted automatically in checkout. You should see this on the billing screen. It should show a charge of $6 for shipping and then a credit of $6 right underneath that. If you aren’t seeing the deduction, maybe try using a different browser. Hope that helps!

  7. Laura

I used KIDS20 to get 20% off the backpack and free shipping. July4 gave me 20% off on the matching lunchbox.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Awesome score, Laura!

    • Karizma

Whereโ€™s the matching lunch box ?

  8. drliu

Does anyone know how these prices compare to the lands end sales in aug? Is it about the same price?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yes, drliu! Last year around July 9th we saw Lands’ End classmate backpacks for 40% off. Then, by July 18th, those same backpacks were 50% off. It may follow the same trend this year.

      • drliu

Thank you! I am going to wait then, i hope you post when it comes through. Fingers crossed for free shipping!!

  9. Olivia Douglass

Is the toddler “junior” one big enough for a folder and binder or no? My son is super tiny and going to Pre-K4 in the fall.

    • Lindsey

My daughter has the junior. She used it for kinder and 1st grade. It will hold folders plus books. She never had a binder but I am sure it would fit. My daughter is also using the same backpack for 2nd grade. It has held up so well!!

      • Olivia Douglass

        Thank you!!!!

  10. Bethany

Does the Deluxe Bookbag have water bottle pockets?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

The Deluxe does not, but the Original does, Bethany.

      • Bethany

Thanks for the reply. Now itโ€™s hard to decide. I hope the original is large enough.

    • C

The newest version of the Deluxe Book Pack does have water bottle pockets. Last year they had good deals on all the backpacks closer to the end of the summer. If you want the Deluxe with water bottle pockets you may want to hold out.

  11. Em

Is this the best price or do they drop further in price closer to school starting?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

If you go by last summers prices, we saw them drop to $14.99 a few times – once at the end of June and once at the end of July. I’m not sure if they will drop that low again this year, Em. We have LL Bean backpacks in our family and they last for YEARS, plus ours have shown no wear on kids through high school. Hope this helps!

      • Em

        Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  12. Christa

No other backpacks hold up like LL Bean backpacks. They are the best

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

That’s great to hear, Christa! Thanks so much for the review! I’ll have to keep these in mind the next time we are looking for a new backpack!

  13. Nichole

    Thank you!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      You are so welcome, Nichole!

  14. Coupon Katie

LLBean is the best school bag you will ever buy. I’m in my 30s and grew up with LL BEAN bags and clothing. Now my son who is 13 has too. I got one for him when he 3, traded in for new when he hit middle school (this was before the change in warranty). Really great quality. $20 is a BARGAIN!! my suggestion is to choose a color or pattern that isnt too young looking as these bags will last you YEARS. you wont regret your purchase.
