On July 11th, Charming Charlie, the popular jewelry and accessories retailer, announced that they have voluntarily filed for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. As part of the filing, Charming Charlie plans to close ALL of its 261 store locations in 38 states.

This is the second time that the retailer has filed Chapter 11. In the previous filing back in April 2018, they closed about 100 stores in hopes to stabilize the business. Now, the company states that it has been struggling with “unsustainable operating expenses, including onerous leases.” The closures will affect around 3,342 full- and part-time employees nationwide.

They have already closed their website to new orders, and liquidation sales at their brick-and-mortar stores have started. All stores are expected to be completely vacated by August 31st, meaning we should start seeing drastic discounts soon, so be sure to keep an eye out some nice deals!

Note that gift cards can be used in retail locations through August 21, 2019.

My teens are going to be bummed! This is their favorite store for accessories.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Darn! 😢

  2. Ashley

    Nooooooooooo!

  3. Rasha

    Boooooooooo!!!!! I love this store!

    😳

😊great news. Less garbage in our landfills. People buy these onetime use accessories and they are just garbage.

    • Mina

Such a nasty comment. Some people can’t afford higher priced jewelry. These aren’t one-time use. I have been able to wear them on multiple occasions at work, weddings and parties. It’s sad that so many people will be out of a job.

      • Mcouzens

I don’t see this as a nasty comment. It is a better choice to take care of our only home versus destroying it so we can have cheap soon to be garbage at our disposal.

      • Pat

I agree. That was a nasty comment and uncalled for.

    • MJ

Fast fashion is not sustainable, but I’m guilty of indulging in it too…but every time I have to throw out junky broken stuff, it makes me think twice…

    • Cassandra

False!! They had tons of nice items. I have a pair of shoes I bought from there two years ago still in great condition.

    • charlyt38

Seriously!!! I really liked them for when I needed color specific accessories but they never last!!! One time use is more like it. So sad.

    • toby sadog

That is very broad to say “people” do that (and condescending to those of us who shop there). Charming Charlie’s has been my go-to for unique clothes, shoes, bags, hats, for years. Their products are no more “garbage” or “one-time use” than the products from Macy’s or any of the other sites you are looking at on this site. If you don’t have something positive to add to a discussion, then the garbage is your negative opinion.

      • R

Right?! Writing “great news – smiley face” after learning that 3500 people will be out of a job is tone deaf and elitist at best.

    • reneecamello

I don’t understand why you would even use Hip2Save, when most of their products they promote are bad for our environment. Did you make a mean post about the Quaker Oats Bars that were a great deal through Amazon? Those wrappers don’t decompose and our not good for our landfills and the bar itself is full of sugar, which is poisen to our bodies. Do you know who makes the clothes for Old Navy? I could go on and on, but I too purchase from most of the retailers that our promoted on this site and yes, I’m sure many of the items are bad for our landfill, it’s hard to find products that aren’t.

      • Mom

Who makes the cloth for old navy??????

    • Mary

I bought all of my stuff for my wedding there and took good care of it and it is still in good condition!

    • Katrina

Well, Kimberly, I for one see the love behind your comment and support the sentiment.

    • Justine

Many people can’t afford fine jewelry, so fashion jewelry is the alternative. Most people I know (myself included) don’t just throw it away after one use – we try to get as much use out of it as we can. When my fashion jewelry breaks, I use the parts to make new jewelry or save the parts for a new craft project. On the garbage comment, every business produces waste, as well as private citizens. You can’t really point the finger unless you create zero waste yourself. Also, this is terrible news (not great news) for all the affected employees who now have to find another job to put food on the table.

  6. Em

Another one bites the dust 😔 I’m always sad to hear another retailer closing

  7. Heidi

Love their purses and I get so many compliments on their jewelry!

  8. Tarri M

I loved this store and my youngest that lives in another state has just come to love it. I have gotten some of the jewelry but I like it more for other stuff they had there.

  9. M

Sad. Liked that store a lot

  10. Melissa Rice

So sorry to hear that all stores are closing.
I never shopped at CC but I’ll definitely try to stop by at a store.
I feel sorry that so many people will be out of jobs.

  11. Hellotashakitty

I don’t think it was a nasty comment either. Nothing offensive was said. It’s true, most of their accessories are junk and cheaply made. Only unfortunate thing is those losing their income.

  12. Laura

😭 I loved this store. It was the only reason to go to my mall

    • moiramclaughlin

Same! Mall walk with a good friend. (She’s 45 and I’m 55) and we always stopped there and I always got something. My go to wallet is from there and gets compliments. I could buy little gifts for my 20 somethings. Such a bummer.

  13. Abby

Aaaagh! I love their jewelry. I have many pieces that I’ve worn for years. It’s so chunky and fun. I have a gift card. Do you know if they are still accepting gift cards?

    • Susan Crawford

You might want to call your local store and check with them.

    • JJ

I just left my local store. I was able to use my gift card, and they said that today was the last day to redeem any rewards! So I’d hurry in if I were you. They probably won’t be taking gift cards very much longer.

    • 5pink1blue

My daughter’s name is Moira. Don’t see it very often. In the winter I like to mall walk too. Have a good day.

  14. s

Darn. I found cute things there! It may not be high quality but I’m not sure any of this style of jewelry is “high quality”. I am careful with my things & I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had anything from there break. I’m super bummed out about this!

  15. hipsaver2

I am bummed too. I really like this store. The issue of how much it costs to lease a place to run a business is really a problem.

  16. Darcy

I’m super sad! They have lovely, empowering gifts and I shopped there often for team Incentives for my skin care business. Also, it’s one of the only stores I can buy fashion jewelry that is nickel free.

    • Cara

Paparazzi jewelry is lead and nickel free. Also, $5 each piece. I have been wearing their earrings and have loved them. My friend Patricia is a rep and she always has such cute stuff!

      • Krissie H

Love my Paparazzi! So much I became a Consultant!

  17. Julie

    Thank you Amazon😓

  18. joni

its a shame so many brick and mortar stores are closing its an online generation.

  19. Rnmomma

Really sad. Hate to see another retailer close and people lose their jobs. It’s a cute store. Great for unique gifts and their clothes are great

  20. Bebe

I’m sad! Charming Charlie’s is one of the few places where I can purchase affordable earrings. A lot of other retailers advertise that their earrings are nickel free or sensitive and it still makes my ears itch. I got a set of earrings for Christmas from CC one year and it was the first time in a long time I was able to wear earrings that didn’t bother me. I will have to stock up on different styles now. Thank you for letting us know, H2S!

  21. SuperDawn

I am so bummed! This is my go-to store for affordable clothes, jewelry, purses, and shoes! And I have never had an issue with quality.

  22. Haseena

This is so sad! I was just at a local CC yesterday and bought two beautiful scarves, I always liked walking into the store and looking at all the fun jewelry and purses. Now I wish I had purchased a few more scarves yesterday 🙁

    • moiramclaughlin

Great idea. I’m doing that too!

  23. Mare

Henrietta, NY. Store is 40 percent off. A lot of stuff left.

  24. Jessica

I went there a few times when I got my birthday coupon.. a lot of fun stuff but always wondered how it stayed in business. I could never see myself shopping there regularly. Everything I did get held up and I felt was quality. I got earrings and wallets.

  25. SJ

    Never heard of it

  26. Amanda

I am so sad to hear this! ☹️ I have great memories shopping here with my mom as a teenager. My daughter is still to young

  27. Jesscit

I got some awesome deals last time they closed a store in my area— the last week, they had everything marked down 80% AND it was buy one, get 8 free!! I seriously spent less than $100 and have tons of gifts to stock my gift closet for eternity.

  28. Tawana

I was there before the holiday and got some good deals (birthday and christmas gifts).

  29. Vickie Camm

For all you nasty posting people here who can’t think of anything nice to say, I’m probably your mothers age, so don’t say anything at all! I love this store…buy clothes, jewelry, shoes ( have worn my favorite winter boots 3 years now, my favorite summer sandals 4 years now and still wearing them! I love there accessories, all color coordinated, and they actually have flair! So yes I’m in my sixties, and I’m going to miss CC verrry much!! And btw, I just spent 100$ there yesterday that I could probably take back and then buy it at some good savings but if it wears as good as everything else I’ve bought there….it’s good! Have a nice day you whiny pa!

  30. cath

So sad. it looks like such a fun place!

  31. shop4mybabies

i love this store, it was the go to for evening bags, prom jewelry, quinceanera jewelry…having all the colors to match to certain items was fantastic. I’m sad to see them close

  32. jazzyJas

The store is lovely but expensive. I usually go to Thredup.com and find the same but much less. Its sad to see the store closing because so many people will be out of a job and have to look for new jobs all over again. P.S. I dont know about the lady commenting about the stuff being garbage and ending up in landfills because I buy accessories and aleays resuse for years, as I’m sure many do.

  33. Christina Fish

I tried it use my $50 gift card at one in Minnesota- Riverdale on August 10th and was told that they are not longer accepting them. Any ideas what I do with it now?
