Welcome to the battle of the tacos!🌮

We asked our resident deal tester (and sometimes taste tester!) Stetson to head out and taste test three different tacos from Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, and Burger King.

We asked Stetson to evaluate the presentation, cost, and most importantly – taste!

Go HERE to watch Stetson eating these tacos live on Facebook!

taco from dairy queen in box with dairy queen bag behind it

1. Dairy Queen Taco

First up was the Dairy Queen Taco priced at $1.69! This was the most expensive taco of the bunch so was the higher price worth it? It came with a DQ taco sauce packet and fork which was essential as the taco shell was pretty crumbly.

Although the presentation of this taco was not great (it was served in a hot dog box!), the taste was surprisingly okay!

Taco Bell Taco

2. Taco Bell Taco

Next up was the familiar hard shell taco from Taco Bell – one of the leading taco chains. This taco cost a respectable $1.39 which is a bit less than Dairy Queen, and the quick service and the familiar taste did not disappoint.

3. Burger King Taco

The final taco in our taste test came from Burger King and was the cheapest taco in the bunch at just a buck. But you definitely get what you pay for in this situation!

This taco was supposed to be filled with seasoned beef, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, and taco sauce… but it just looked like a brown heap. We actually think Burger King should be paying us to taste this mess.

As you can guess, Stetson was not impressed with this taco and looked like he was in pain just trying to get it down. He gave it a thumbs down for presentation and taste so our advice would be to steer clear of this “taco” unless you are a major risk-taker!

Our conclusion: Taco Bell is still making a pretty great taco with a nice price tag. Dairy Queen is okay as a back-up option, and as for Burger King…stick to the Whopper because your taco was a whopping disaster!

Burger King taco was so nasty. It tasted boiled and microwaved at the same time. No crispy that I could find. I did not recognize the cheese, it tasted more like beans. So happy I only wasted a dollar. Plus I submitted my negative review with the receipt and got a free whopper out of it.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! I haven’t tried them and I’m not sure I will. LOL! SO glad you received your free Whopper for the feedback!

    • Kay

This taco was a mess. I’m not sure if that was considered beef or not. It tasted like beans and the shell was horrible. Never again.

  2. Nancy

I tried the Burger King taco and ICK! Seriously the worst tasting item ever. Note to self: Starve rather than eat that again.

    • Hilgers

Looking good Clinton! Lol just playing with u Stetson

  3. Rachel

It was awful. We were excited to try it too since weā€™re in a smaller town and our Taco Bell closed. I donā€™t even think thatā€™s meat.

  4. Lunafalls

My hubby tried one of these. He said whatever was in it did NOT taste like beef. And the shell was hard as a rock! Horrible.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Ugh! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

  5. Sara

I tried it. It wasn’t bad. It was just okay. It was actually really bland. I wouldn’t buy it again. I prefer Jack in the Box tacos. It appears to me that the people that are disgusted by the Burger King taco have expectations that are too high. It isn’t meant to be gourmet. It’s junk food quality. What are you expecting for $1?

    • Kandyce

Sara, cost does not always determine quality. I’ve had some pretty delicious snack foods that were a $1. If they’re selling a food item it should at least taste decent no matter the cost.

    • Daniela

I was not expecting a gourmet taco with skirt steak and sour cream. I wanted a yum taco just like their onion rings or a whopper junior. This wasnā€™t edible.

    • Marie

I get GREAT authentic steak tacos for only a dollar each from a local mexican store, so my expectations are quite high for just a dollar, thank you =)

      • Kitty

Support local businesses and get the real thing šŸ‘ sounds like a win win

    • Khera

Jack in the Box in our area no longer has tacos. They were the best fast food tacos. Much better than Taco Bell. Very sad.

  6. Marie

Our local Burger King was responsible for the hepatitis C outbreak in our area. Yes, the kind you get when eating fecal matter. X-Nay on the Burger King Anything.

    • Denise

O my thatā€™s nasty and terrible at the same time

    • Kim

      šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

    • Didi

You mean hepatitis A not C …still nasty

    • Elaine

      šŸ§ Hep C is blood borne. Only A and E are fecal-oral.

    • Marie

      Whoops totally right. Meant A!

    • Lucutus

You are full of it, you do not get hepatitis C from eating crap. Hepatitis C is a cousin to the HIV virus it is spread through the exchange of body fluids, usually sexually. You are thinking of hepatitis A

  7. Erica

JACK IN THE BOX tacos are best

    • Dawn

      Definitely!

    • KD

      Yes! Or Taco Casa tacos!!

  8. Amber

    Gross šŸ¤¢šŸ¤®

  9. MrsO

    I really enjoy Stetson šŸ˜Š

  10. Lana

Food poisoning that last two times I ate at BK. Never again.

Our local Mexican restaurant has 99 cent beef tacos all weekend and they are delicious! We will stick with them!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

SO sorry to hear about that, Lana! Sounds like a great deal on tacos at your local Mexican restaurant!

  11. Lisa

The meat from BK is definitely mysterious ! šŸ¤” but donā€™t waste your money they are not something you should try . They are pretty nasty šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø(personal opinion)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks a bunch for sharing your thoughts with us, Lisa! We sure appreciate the honest feedback.

  12. Bree

Wow…that BK taco looked nothing like what we got here (Va Beach, Va) Maybe we have an exceptional Burger King…the taco had a crunchy shell (think of kettle cooked potato chips vs regular potato chips) so it was super crunchy. The meat came drizzled with sauce…there was cheese and lettuce. While the overall taste is superior at Taco Bell, for $1.39 you definitely don’t get very much meat there. I appreciate BK pulling out these low cost deals, it is super helpful in the summer with the kids being hungry 24/7. Everyone’s Burger King evidently is not cooking great, haha…but I definitely don’t think it’s too horrible for a buck šŸ˜‰ Thanks Stetson for the funny taste tests! Awesome work.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How interesting! Now I’m curious to see what it may be like at my BK. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Good to know!

  13. Reyna

    Gross!

  14. margaretburns

It was nasty. The shell was so chewy that you really couldn’t chew it. Won’t make that mistake again.

  15. Mary

I feel like people complaining about the quality of the BK tacos have never had Jack in the Box tacos. Theyā€™re not supposed to be like ā€œregularā€ tacos. Theyā€™re something completely different. Are they as good as Jack in the Box tacos? No, but for those of us who donā€™t live anywhere near a Jack in the Box anymore, BKā€™s tacos are the closest thing we can get.

  16. Sharon

When we complained, they offered to make them fresh for us. Guess what, the fresh ones were exactly the same…horrible. We found out from one of the employees that they deep dry the taco shells….well duh no wonder they are hard as bricks. Burger King needs to stick to burgers.

    • Sharon

      Sorry…that’s deep fry….darn auto correct

  17. Bologna

I didnā€™t think they were bad at all! Iā€™ve been wanting Jack in the box tacos and these are similar! And I love Dairy Queen tacos! lol

  18. Jack

tried the BK taco and it was all but empty! sent the company an email telling them that and the response? “thanks for telling us”!!! i don’t see tacos listed on the main DQ website!?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hmm, Maybe call ahead to your DQ to double check that they are offering tacos, before heading out. Hope that helps!

  19. Krissa

I was super excited to see BK come out with their tacos again but they changed them and not for the better! Living in MS we donā€™t have jack in the box so when BK had them before they were identical and delicious. The new ones did not meet expectations. They used cheddar instead of the copycat American cheese that JITB uses.

  20. Marie

The best tacos are the ones you make yourself. You know whatā€™s really in them too! No mystery meat. (Iā€™m not sure about the Taco Bell ā€œmeat.ā€ Itā€™s strange stuff. Dissect one and see for yourself.)

    • Jennifer

      Agreed

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

SO true! I love making tacos at home!

    • shop4mybabies

i love homemade tacos, but i also LOVE taco bell and always have. i have never had an issue with quality, and moreover, the taco bell in my home city employs the most amazing, kind people who seem to really love their job. They supported one employee going on America’s got Talent, and paid for him to go, and several of their employees get scholarships for college. I’m happy to spent my money at any company who gives a leg up to young people starting out…my only complaint, the slurpee machine is down a lot just like at every other place that serves icee type products

  21. Sam

I think I’m the minority here! I really enjoy Burger Kings tacos! They’re almost exactly like the ones at Jack n the Box and I’ve always loved those.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh great! SO glad you are enjoying them, Sam! Thanks for the feedback!

  22. Liz

After all these comments Iā€™m now wanting to try one myself and see what all the fuzz is about.lol

  23. Pat

I only eat soft taco’s with guacamole and sour cream at Taco Bell. Won’t touch them without the guacamole and sour cream. LOL

  24. Sally

My son works at Burger King and told us not to get one LOL He said they come with the “meat” inside and they have to deep fry them. Then pry them apart to put the cheese and lettuce inside. They should stick to burgers šŸ˜‰

  25. Tom

Burger King Tacos taste exactly like Jack in the Box tacos. They taste like they are microwaved but I still think they are decent for the price. What more can you ask out of a burger place that is adding a cheap option to their menu?

  26. Elaine

I really liked the one I got. It was very crispy and there was plenty of sauce on it, just like I would want. I will get another for sure.

  27. Rhonda

The BK Tacos here are very similar to Jack In the Box. Tasty sauce and fresh lettuce…crunchy shell. Not bad. We also have $1.00 Taco Tuesdays if you enjoy DQ. I am in East Texas.

  28. Natalie

The Burger King Taco šŸŒ® tasted disgusting, Iā€™m glad only soend $1. Yuck

  29. shop4mybabies

i saw this on fb and i don’t know why but i can’t stop laughing
    Girl, you nasty
    how nasty?
    burger king taco nasty.
    now that’s NASTY!

  30. Ashley

Why couldn’t they just make a taco burger. They are probably using left over hamburger from the day before, dicing it up and then seasoning it. As a way to avoid wasted food. (Wendys does this with their chili). I would rather them season a fresh patty with taco seasoning, add lettuce, sour cream or even hot sauce and pico. I would eat that on a bun.

  31. Patti Smith

    That looks absolutely disgusting!
