Buyer beware. I just had such a terrible experience with the customer service for our Royal Caribbean cruise that I actually ended up cancelling our entire trip. Long story short, the Allure of the Seas changed their itinerary for its Caribbean cruises because their boat is literally broken. However, this issue happened in May ‘19 and my cruise was not until February ‘20!!! They stated that they had to change the ports in the itinerary that we booked (because the boat can’t go as far-as it’s broken ) and refused to refund any portion of the trip. This was crazy as RC is, no doubt, saving loads of money on gasoline prices alone. When I further pressed the representative regarding how the boat can’t be fixed in 9 months?!?!…he added that there are no dry docks that can fit a ship that size that are available (apparently because another RC ship with same problems as Allure of the Seas) recently damaged one. What also blew my mind was that RC refused to give any refunds (heck I would have even taken the $100 ship credit that they were offering all other sailings) but because I had booked during a school vacation week, “nothing could be done”. I rarely complain, but this one was crazy! Oh, to be totally upfront…they did allow us to cancel for free…so I took advantage of that one…thanks RC! 🙁
We took a cruise with RC last year. We found their overall service so disappointing. Will never sail with them again.
Thanks so much for your honest feedback! I’m so sorry you had such a bad experience, Nicole!
For our honeymoon we had a two week Carribean vacation. A hurricane arrived in the middle of the trip and they decide to repeat the eastern Carribean that we had just visited instead of the second half in the western Carribean. We then learned they only guarantee a boat ride. They do not guarantee locations. Luckily we had travelers insurance that credited the whole cruise, even though we had enjoyed half the cruise already.
We too just found out that our itinerary is altered because of the “technical limitation issues with the propulsion of the ship” which we are not happy about. However RC is allowing people to change their cruise plans to another cruise option without penalty.
Your credit card company my have a trip
Insurance, good to use for thins like this.
I was about to book a trip when I saw your guy’s comments. Is there a cruise line you guy can recommend?
Thanks
I’ve done a lot of Carnival cruises and have never had any big issues. You can be super fancy or super relaxed, they have it all!
Carnival is a low budget cruise never had any issue with royal Caribbean been on 12 or more. Carnival is family affordable
Norwegian is the best. My family has taken many cruises on NCL and have loved every minute.
Celebrity was fantastic way better than Norvegian and Carnival
To each is own. I am a travel agent and Royal Caribbean is a great cruise line. You just have to be careful when you book because there is a non refundable rate that ALOT of people take advantage of because it is a lower rate and the agents DO advise of this
We love Royal Caribbean! We have been on 16 cruises and 11 of those with RC and they stand out in almost every way to us. Just got back from Majesty 2 weeks ago which we received free due to the cancellation of the Cuba stop. We have also sailed NCL and Princess which are fine but we much prefer RC.
I am also a travel agent (over 25 yrs) and I only sail on Royal Caribbean. My husband and i are booked on the Oasis in March. NCL is nice, but I wouldn’t sail on Carnival and I don’t book my clients on Carnival.
Why not Carnival??
That’s awesome. I find the clientele on carnival over all…less classy. Not to offend anyone on here, but they’re cheaper so they get some weird people.
Agree!!! I cruise multiple times a year. Royal an Disney are my favorites. NCL is nice. Carnival is the k-mart of the sea.
I have also had HORRIBLE customer service from Royal Caribbean. They do not honor their written policies. I will never sail with them again.
Does anyone here recommend taking a cruise in September? It would be our first cruise and I think it’s hurricane season.
I am Platinum on Carnival. I love them!! They are far cheaper, in most cases, than any other cruise line. Their food is good, their rooms are bigger, plenty of entertainment, never had an issue with customer service, they have cruises going everywhere, and tons for kids to do. Just got off a 5-day out of Port Canaveral, and have a Mexican Baja and a 10-day Alaskan booked.
All cruise lines are safe they are not going anywhere near a hurricane
No to sailing September- peak hurricane season. They might sail around it,but the seas will be very, very rough and your itinerary would change.
As a Floridian who’s been through many hurricanes, I would not recommend sailing in September. Several years ago, we sailed as late as October on Disney’s ship and ran into Hurricane Sandy. While Disney did it’s best to handle the situation, it turned out to be an awful experience. We never got off the ship because the seas were too rough to dock anywhere, the pool was drained, and all of the lounge chairs on deck were stacked and tied up.
I have been on over 16 cruise and I have to say that Carnival is my favorite along with Disney. I have been on RC. They are more expensive and have an older clientele.
Four years ago my husband and I took an Alaskan cruise with Princess. We were well taken care of and enjoyed our cruise. We would have no problem booking another cruise with Princess.
I LOVE ROYAL!!! They are the best. My husband refuses to do any other cruise line. We’ve taken 5 with them- last was 5 weeks ago and we had an amazing time. Trying to talk my husband into another one for this deal. 😉
Also, the last one we went on was super kid friendly.
Thank you for posting. We bought one 4 night cruise in November for my parents! They are going to love key west and Nassau. They are so excited.
How exciting! You are SO welcome, Kristina! Hope they have a wonderful time!
