Please tip DoorDash drivers in cash. DoorDash currently pockets all customer’s tips.
I thought there is not an option to tip separately anymore. It didn’t let me finish my transaction without tipping!
They do not pocket tips but they pay us in a very sneaky way. I get a $1 base pay to deliver. The tip is the bulk of my payment. If you tip low, DoorDash covers the rest to what they think I should have been tipped – depending on miles driven. If the customer tips well, DoorDash only pays me $1. They use the customer to gauge our payment. I am always guaranteed a tip though – avg payment of my deliveries are between $6 – $9, but I sometimes have to place the order for the customer and pay with the DoorDash credit card. I would rather not be tipped in cash because I go around a lot of sketchy areas lol.
7/29/19 NY Post article: More than 1 out of every 4 food delivery drivers surveyed said they had sampled the food they had delivered. Look it up because I don’t know if I’m allowed to put links on this. So besides worrying about the conditions of the restaurant/food place you order from, there are a separate set of fingers (and who knows how clean or gross they are) in your food. Yuck. I had always kind of wondered about that, but now we know for sure.
That’s the reason my mom refuses to order with these services. She said her meal looked like someone ate out of it
You have an option to pickup. I do pickup to avoid tipping.
I drive for Doordash, I have a cute branded red bag that I bring into the restaurant and I have the place put the food in the bag. I have to work with the cashier and confirm what is in the bag because if you are missing something, it comes out if my money. Or I get penalized and am not allowed to dash for a few days. I also drive for UberEats, I am not allowed to see your food, open the door, break the seal on the container, I don’t know what you ordered. I personally prefer UberEats because I prefer not knowing but I don’t rummage through anything or open anything. Tips are guaranteed on Doordash, I rarely get tipped with Uber. Maybe 20% of the time.
Ugh! I find it unacceptable that people in this day and age would not tip a driver who brings them food literally to their door. Im sure its the norm tjat when people do tip its not as gracious as it probably should be but come on! People will always make the comment that a restaurant or uber eats etc….. should pay the drivers or servers better. I agree to that also but when we go to a restaurant or order pizza we know that they dont going in. Its not a shocking aurprise. We didnt all just crawl from under a rock. We know they make less money and its a tip based job. To then sit on a perch and say its the restaurants fault is a cop out. Again-we all KNOW this going in. If we want to make statements about not tipping and restaurants short changing their servers (uber etc..) lets start at the beginning. Boycott0 the restaurant-not your server. When the bill comes to the table it seems like comments here and/or prior posts, that’s when people decide to “take their stance”. Dont take it out on the server who you know when walking in the door or placing the order only makes mere pennies.
I am not a server or a driver but I am also aware of the crummy pay they get. But im not going to olive garden, running a server back and forth with food, butter, takeout plates etc. And then saying “Well OG should pay you better”. I would first show my disdain by simply not eating there. Yes to each his own but I wonder when we all lost common sense. Nowadays i think even a small tip would sometimes knock a servers socks off. To all servers and delivery people. PLEASE know you are appreciated — ( i hate cooking LOL ) and there are some people who still tip well & i tip in cash 🤣😁
This is why I haven’t done it. 🤢
Is it me or are the prices higher on their site than the restaurants normal ones?
Yes prices are usually higher
Depending on the area they can be a lot higher. In South TX I noticed that they were less than $0.50 higher but when visiting Southern California my family wanted to order from a local coffee shop. The drink when ordered there is $4.95 including tax for a large. When you order DoorDash its $7.20. We made a rule just to go to the coffee shop instead.
I don’t understand the purpose of using Door dash for pickup service? Most if not all of these restaurants you can call yourself and place the order to pickup. We do it all the time at my work.
Some restaurants do not accept credit card or have a lot of drivers to accommodate busy areas. DoorDash helps food get out of the restaurant quicker and they get money faster.
Still..how is that an answer to the question? You mention drivers and its about picking up .. also i have never been or seen a restaurant that does not accept cc. Never
Sorry I misread the question and just thought she said why use doordash when you can pick up. But yes a lot of chinese restaurants and small mexican places in my area (Rural NJ and also city NJ) are cash only. Brooklyn Pizza in Hackensack which is a chain, none accept cash. Goffle Grill which is a burger joint in Hawthorne, cash. So if you use DoorDash you bypass the register, pay on app with cc, go inside and pick up. I personally do not like to call pizza joints to order large orders, I prefer online ordering to include my notes, hold this, more of this. So I go to doordash or the pizza app, and do my order, walk in door, walk out with large pizza done.
I wrote a response but I am refreshing and it does not show up, so I am going to rewrite, might create a double post lol. —- I misread her comment – I thought asked why do DoorDash when you could pick up? So to answer her question, there are some restaurants that do not accept cash. I deliver in rural and city parts of NJ, small chinese places, small mexican places, those without seats, pick up only, are cash only. A few chains do not accept cash – Brooklyn Pizza which is in Ridgewood and Hackensack, cash only. Goffle Grill which is a burger and fries place, cash only. So if you want to order here and are lazy to go to ATM, DoorDash and pick it up. If I have a large pizza order with many comments and requests, and do not want to be a pain and hold up a phone at the pizza place, I go on the app, click on everything I want, do all my comments, pay and pick up. Most likely, the people using DoorDash are coupon users, but DoorDash is all about convenience. Some people will pay more for it.
You can only use the promo code once. There is another promocode for the same offer …PICKUP is the code. I just placed one order using the promo code PICKMEUPMAP and then I placed another and used the promo code PICKUP. I got $5 off both orders.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Tracy!
PICKMEUPMAP did not work but I was able to use PICKUPMAP (no ME)
