A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving first aired in 1973 before going on to become a beloved holiday tradition for countless families everywhere. This year, ABC will be airing the Thanksgiving classic on Wednesday, November 27th—the day before Thanksgiving.

The Peanuts gang at Thanksgiving dinner

This animated short film tells the story of Charlie Brown attempting to organize what may very well be the first-ever “Friendsgiving.” As the Peanuts gang throws together an impromptu celebration (with a menu featuring toast, popcorn, and jelly beans), they learn about the true meaning of the holiday.

The Peanuts gang on the Mayflower

Immediately following A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, ABC will be airing a bonus Charlie Brown feature called This Is America, Charlie Brown: The Mayflower Voyagers. This animated short film shows Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang as they go back in time to 1620 to meet the passengers of the Mayflower to celebrate the first Thanksgiving with them.

If you can’t tune watch to it live on November 27, you can also rent or buy A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving any time on Amazon Prime Video. This deluxe version also includes This Is America, Charlie Brown: The Mayflower Voyagers and Play It Again, Charlie Brown as bonus features, for over an hour of viewing time. You can also get the story of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving in the form of a paperback book!

Thank you for this post!!! I started the tradition of watching all of these classics when my son was first born and now it’s something that all of my kids look forward to! A few years ago I missed a few. This is so helpful! Thanks!!!

I watched The Great Pumpkin with my kids for their first time right before Halloween via ABC. I was seriously disappointed that they showed commercials for the new Terminator movie several times. Definitely not a young child friendly commercial. I emailed ABC about it and they told me that their station is aimed to adult audiences. 🙄

When it comes to channels that are not specifically for kids I tend to record the program on my dvr that way I can fast forward thru the commercials as there tend to be things I don’t want to sit thru with them.

I bought the Charlie Brown Holidays as a set which was a combo of bluray and dvd for a really good price a few years ago. (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas) That way you don’t have to put up with commercials and can watch anytime. I also like the Garfield Holiday dvd too.
