Papyrus Is Closing All 260 Retail Locations
Greeting card retailer Papyrus will be closing all 260 of its stores due to “current challenges in the retail industry.” The company confirmed this news in a statement on its Facebook page, which read:
Schurman Retail group wants to thank you, our wonderful customers for so many years of loyal patronage. Unfortunately, we regret that we are closing our stores. We hope that through our artistic, thoughtful greeting cards and our personal expression products that we were able to inspire you to celebrate and honor the special people in your lives, creating meaningful moments along the way. We truly appreciate all of your business and will miss serving your needs. We will cherish the memories. The Papyrus brand lives on and we hope you will still find joy in it.
Papyrus products are made by American Greetings, which also owns the brand. Although Papyrus retail stores are closing, Papyrus products will continue to be produced by American Greetings and sold at over 20,000 retailers across the US and Canada.

Sad, these were fun stores
I agree!
Their stuff are gorgeous but I can never bring myself to buy a $7+ card…
Agreed
Same. Especially now I have kids who love to make cards lol
Right, I still have lots from when they did the semi annual $1 greeting card sale though! Now THAT was fun, but was over a decade ago…every year since they did sales, but not $1 for a huge selection of cards. Very sad I won’t even have the option to buy a $7-$10 card though…I really really love their products😢
Sad! Everything is closing down
Beautiful cards but way too expensive. I’m not surprised to hear they’re closing. Cards were $7-$12!
Agreed!
There was always so much marked down in the back of stores. Sad to see these stores close.
Cardstore closing as well. Also American Greetings owned.
Greeting cards are becoming less and less. Also who has the money to spend $5 plus on a card.
Especially since the Dollar Store has beautiful cards for $1. American Greetings built a beautiful headquarters close to where I live in Westlake, OH. The company was family owned and now sold mostly to another company and just can’t do well. It’s sad.
I agree. We buy all our cards at DG. Can’t see paying $5+ at CVS, Walmart, etc.
I love these cards..they are beautiful and fun…but the price on these are expensive and they just throw them away after the season when they are in a retail store…I hate that part…they should donate to some group that could use them.
Great point that they shouldn’t throw them away & donate instead. You should make this great point on their social media pages. All these companies have employees running their social media pages & actually respond.
That’s a shame that they throw them away. I bet our military overseas would love to receive cards from anyone. I’m sure there are several non-profit groups that could use them. I know that people even recycle the used ones where kids cut out the fronts and paste them into projects.
Not surprised…Can’t imagine how a store selling greeting cards would survive.
Oh they’ll still be made by AG? I’m not very optimistic about how that’ll go, but hopefully I’m wrong!
