6 Barbie Fashionista dolls

Barbie is more inclusive than ever!

Mattel is adding new Barbie dolls to its Fashionistas lineup in an effort to offer choices that are more reflective of the world that kids see around them today. The Barbie Fashionistas line already has a variety of body types, skin tones, and hairstyles, and the new dolls are designed to represent even greater diversity and inclusivity.

These new dolls include one with the condition vitiligo, which causes loss of pigmentation in the skin. For the first time ever, there’s also a Ken doll with long hair. Both of these new releases are now available for purchase.

Two more dolls, one without hair and another with a gold prosthetic limb, will be available for purchase in June. The 2020 collection will also feature some returning favorites, including a doll with a wheelchair, which has been very popular in the past.

Each Barbie Fashionistas doll has her own look and is styled with fashions inspired by the latest trends. With added diversity and more variety in styles, fashions, shoes, and accessories, Mattel hopes that children everywhere will have more ways to spark their imagination and interact with the world around them!

    I just LOVE this!

I searched for a ken doll for my daughter for Christmas, that actually looks like a man, and couldnā€™t find one.

    • Mary

I have an OLD. Ken dill that does. At first glance I thought this one was trans šŸ˜
Donā€™t get me wrong, itā€™s great to make inclusive dolls, I just really thought this one was Drag Queen Ken from the small pic! šŸ˜‚

      • Mary

        *doll. Autocorrect Freudian slip?

        • rae

          Lol

    • Lexi

Same! Itā€™s hard to find one thatā€™s just a man. No flair. Like her dad, maybe? Although she HAD to have man bun ken when he came out. šŸ¤£

    • tammy

My daughter’s barbie dates my son’s Thor lol

      • Wren

        Tammy, that is awesome šŸ¤£šŸ¤©.

Is that a transgender doll..in the jeans shorts?

    • Jessica

No itā€™s just ken with long hair

    • jusrestof

Any doll can be trans if whoever is playing with it decides that they are šŸ™‚.

I actually think long hair ken looks manlier than most of the kens who appear to be wearing makeup or something. Its a little Fabio esque maybe if you change the clothes. They do have a farm Ken out now that looks more like a man.

Bring on a burly, redneck Ken! šŸ˜‚

    • Erin

      Mattel isn’t THAT politically correct.

      • Jess

Haha! Erin, this made my day!

While the idea of these is great and a positive move for the Barbie brand, those are the Barbies that will be left on the shelf after Christmas. If you notice as it gets close to Christmas any year, the tall, lighter skinned, blonde Barbie sells out. What is usually left as it gets close to Christmas is the “curvy” Barbie and dark skinned Barbie. I can see these keeping those Barbies company.

    • Erin

Well said. My immediate reaction to the post was “more clearance Barbies!”

    • Lo

I hope these make it to the clearance shelf! I was so excited to get the black bee keeper Barbie for $5 in October. Tho I saw yesterday that the white one was $4…
I also noticed that barbies are coded as blonde or brunette. šŸ™„ Iā€™ve only seen a 1 black blonde haired Barbie in the fashionista šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø

  7. jessie o

I disagree about clearance. I get blonde ones on clearance all the time. Most of the clearance are cheaper, more boring barbies in general.

    • Mary

My experience is the clearance Barbies do tend to be the ā€œnon traditionalā€ barbies, but personally I have found that as my daughters Barbie collection has grown, all she wants now are non traditional ones. After all you can only have so many light skinned blonde skinny barbies before the dream house just starts seeming more like the Clonehouse and Barbie is having dinner with herself, watching tv with herself, fighting with herself, stealing her own clothes…

      • JulietteY

So true! Reminds me of Black Mirror a bit!

  8. Tina

    I love this too

  9. Kat9919

As someone with vitiligo that started when I was very young, this makes me happy! Glad to see companies embracing peopleā€™s differences!

  10. frecklelily

    VSCO BARBIE!!!!

    • tdrew138

      Thatā€™s what I thought!

  11. Amanda Durham

Oh fun! Now my daughter is going to need tie dye Ken to go on a date with man bun barista Barbie !

  12. Mima

I wish they would make dolls with Asian features. My girls are grown now, but when they were younger it was so hard to find dolls that looked like them ( even in Asia!).

    • Amanda Durham

Thereā€™s an Asian team Stacie at Target now!
