Unfortunately this is the hardwired type.
We just changed all 9 of our smoke detectors yesterday. They’re as old as the house so about 17 years old a d tgeyvwere chirping like in a symphony. As soon as i saw this post, i was like “oh, man! This is so much cheaper.” Until i saw the reply above that this is hardwired. We changed our hardwired to battery operated and took my hubby 2 minutes each to remove the old one and put a new one in. 🙂
Why change them to battery? Aren’t hardwired safer because it sets them all off when smoke is detected by one of them? My thought is that if an alarm goes off in my basement and I’m asleep 2 floors up, I’m not going to hear it if they aren’t hardwired together. Am I missing a reason it’s better?
We also just changed all ours out in our 14 year old house a couple months ago. Like you, it still only took about 2 minutes each to change them to new hardwired ones.
I thought hardwired was best too! Maybe they know something that we don’t.
