Does anyone know if you can add regular cards to this smartphone plan. I normally add 60 minutes every 3 months for $20.00. I believe smartphone plans are more expensive. Thank you

This is really only good if you need a new SIM card and want to switch over to tracfone from another carrier. No way to use it otherwise…. that’s why the price is so low.

Only if you want to try to set up a new SIM card for his phone, since it’s preloaded. You would have to be able to take out whatever SIM card is in there now.
If I remember correctly you have only a couple of months to activate a new sim card. If your son’s plan ends next year then he can purchase this same kit (this deal comes on eBay regularly). If he looking for cheap phone service with text and data there are other options, for example, Red Pocket (runs on Sprint network, and sprint is now merged with T-mobile) has a basic annual plan for $5/month with 100minutes/100text and 500MB data. If unlimited text/calls are needed or you want more data there are lots more selection for annual plans for $15/month (Mint – unlimited call/text and 3GB data; Redpocket 1000 call/unlimited text/1GB data; US Mobile, Freedom Pop, Scratch Wireless; Cricket Wireless).

I know I bought cards at Wal-Mart to add texts to mine. It came with one year service and a few hundred texts and some data , but I ran out of texts and so purchased a text card from Wal-Mart and it worked fine to add more. I can’t see why they wouldn’t let you add minutes to this. you could always call customer service and ask but be prepared to be on hold a bit (just my experience).
You cannot add the minutes, texts, etc because they are only on the SIM card.
