I’d love to read an article about growing vegetables/fruits to save $ on produce. Things like how to get started, how to determine if your yard is large enough, where the best place to place it, etc. Even possibly how to grow things from scraps – like can you plant an avocado and get a plant. I know I could google it, but I always like to read y’all’s perspective on things. 💕 Keep up the great work!
Great idea… maybe a reader segment even! Vegetables need a good amount of sun, soil amendment or finished compost, food, and water. Sometimes community gardens are offered, although maybe not this summer due to social distancing! Gardening is tough for me personally as I have herds of deer tromping through my yard. I grow some herbs on the ground but my tomatoes and cukes are in Earthbox containers on my deck… and they grow like crazy!
I personally learned from my mom, YouTube and trial and error. I prefer videos instead of books because I’m a visual person. You can grow papaya tree, avocado tree, lemon and orange from seeds in the fruit. My mom always says to start with 3-5 of the same plant because a few will die and then you will have at least 1 left to keep growing. I reuse large plastic buckets with garden soil mixed with menuer from home depot. My yard in Florida is mostly sand so not good for plants. Good luck!! Also you know those $0.99 poinsettias from Christmas time. We planted 2 of them and 1 survived in our front yard. It is large, beautiful red and blooms every winter time. It’s almost may and its leaves are still red.
Thanks so much for the great suggestion! I have passed this idea along to the team!
