I wish more of these things were open to other essential workers. I know several healthcare workers who have been sitting at home this whole time because their hospital cut nonessential surgeries/procedures. The majority of healthcare workers are not on the frontlines of treating COVID patients. They also get first access to the personal protection gear, and they’ve been trained how to use it properly. They’re also, in general, paid well.
Contrast that to grocery store employees, delivery drivers, bank tellers, just to name a few. Many of whom are working for minimum wage for companies who don’t provide PPE or training. They see a revolving door of people all day long.
I get that it’s easy to market “healthcare heroes” and check credentials. And I’m not saying they don’t deserve it- they absolutely do. I just feel a lot of people are getting left out.
Completely agree. Kudos to all the front line health care workers and all that they do! Not taking that away from them whatsoever – But it would be nice to honor some of the other type of essential people you’ve mentioned as well. 🙂
