Ford Recalls 2 Million Vehicles Due to Door Latch Issue
Another vehicle recall has hit the news!
Ford recently announced a recall of over 2 million vehicles, including several 2011-2016 Ford and Lincoln models, because of a door latch issue – which can result in doors opening while cars are being driven. To see the full list of recalled models and years, head here.
In 2016 and 2017, there were two similar recalls for the same problem, but some dealers did not fix the issue correctly or at all.
No accidents or injuries have been reported because of this issue. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s public safety reporting database contains numerous complaints of doors suddenly opening while vehicles are in use.
The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S30.

Ford also announced a recall of over 290,000 Ford F-150 vehicles because a leak in the brake master cylinder could weaken the front brakes. This could increase the risk of a crash if the leak is substantial enough.
Affected vehicles include model years 2014-17, equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S31.
Ford stated they are aware of seven low-speed/low-impact accidents with two injuries associated with this issue.
My car was in the last batch of door latch recalls (2013 Ford Fusion) and I of course ignored it until I was driving home from work (in town, 25mph, I work at a school) and my front passenger door swung open. It wouldn’t stay shut no matter what I tried. I had to have my son in the front seat hold it closed while we got the last half mile home. Luckily our house is in town and not even a whole mile away from the school to begin with. I will never ignore a recall notice I get in the mail again! The dealer replaced all 4 door latches and they’ve functioned properly since. So, these things actually happen, they aren’t just stories and “could happens”!
I have a 2014 Fusion & just recently got this letter in the mail, although mine said I would get another letter later this year when parts are available to fix this issue?
This was last fall (2019) it happened and the original recall notice I got, I’m a little embarrassed to admit, was at least 3 years ago I’m quite certain. My car must’ve been in a different recall batch? I hope the dealer contacts you when the parts are available!
Unfortunately, Ford is slow to make parts available. I waited about 1.5 to 2 years for a new airbag.
