Here’s How One Reader is Celebrating Birthdays for Friends & Family During the Coronavirus
Don’t let the Coronavirus stop you from celebrating!
With social distancing putting a damper on parties and celebrations, we’re seeing people getting more creative in the ways they choose to commemorate special occasions.
Hip2Save reader, Jenny, came up with an easy and fun solution to recognize birthdays even when a traditional party isn’t an option.
Check out this practical solution…
We were invited to a birthday party last month but due to the social distancing orders, the birthday party was canceled. We still wanted to do something fun and deliver a little something to their doorstep. We got the kids involved at home and found small items we already had on hand at home that could be put together for a small gift. We found balloons, a small canvas to create with, pencils for schoolwork, and popcorn for a movie night. We also cut out a fill-in story activity from the back of a cereal box for something different.
I googled birthday template and found one I could edit and added the ‘You’ve been Birthday DoorDashed’ and ‘Happy Birthday’. Lastly, we found a bag from Christmas to reuse and taped the sign to it. After it was put together, we went doordashing! The kids had fun with this idea, and we were able to bring a smile to our neighbors and still follow social distancing guidelines.
Thank you, Jenny, for sharing your idea with us. It’s so important to acknowledge the milestones in a way that is meaningful – even during this pandemic. And we love how you did it in a way that didn’t break the bank and still brought smiles to both your own children and your neighbors!

Where I live (Long Island) the communities have started facebook groups to “dust” each other, with wine, beer, treats etc. to brighten someone’s day. Most people do it anonymously and it has been so fun. I have dusted friends and strangers! Might do something like this for birthdays!
What a creative idea! I love it.
Wait, what role did DoorDash play? Did they deliver it? I didn’t know they did that.
I don’t think it is the company. I think the person just Doordashed them. Meaning they left something at the door and dashed. 😜
What a cute idea.
Random question but need some help. Throwing a 60th birthday party & want to have some souvenirs engraved. What date should i use? The actual birth date or the day the party is on?
I would say go with the actual full birthdate, but honestly you can’t go wrong either way. I’ve seen both. You could just do day and month too and avoid putting any year.
Thx just so many options wasn’t sure what to do.
