I’m not a fan of Office365 at all. My kids use it for school and to me, it feels as though there’s less functionality, but maybe school versions are different. Then there’s the lagging issue. I don’t know if it’s due to overwhelmed servers or our internet speed, but typing can be a pain sometimes. It’s okay with my kids because they can’t properly type yet, but when I help them type something up, there’s always a lag with my typing and what shows up on the screen, which is really frustrating. That issue alone pushed me to buy Office 2019.

Office 365 home subscription includes standalone office and 1TB onedrive. Office online only has basic functions.

You don’t have to use the online version, you can install it onto your laptop/ computer by clicking the install button, or at least I was able to use word and excel.
