Kohl’s Recalls Over 512,000 Sonoma Goods for Life Candles Due to Fire Hazard
There’s a recall on these popular candles from Kohl’s!
As of November 10th, Kohl’s has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 512,000 Sonoma Goods for Life 12.7oz 3-Wick Candles due to the possibility that these candles may produce high flames that ignite the surface of the wax or cause the glass to break resulting in fire and burn hazards. Kohl’s is aware of 29 incidents ranging from broken glass, minor burn injuries, and property damage.
The 12.7-ounce candles come in glass containers with metal lids and include many fragrances like:
- Grateful- Pumpkin Spice UPC# 400496811737
- Tis The Season- Holiday Cookies UPC# 400757426557
- Grow – Cape Jasmine UPC# 400681131954
- Home Sweet Home – White Lotus & Lilac UPC# 400292653180
- Sail Away – Sunday Funday UPC# 400189096090
Other included UPC’s range from 400681131954 to 400757426564. These candles were sold from December 2019 to October 2020, so if you have any at home, they are likely part of this recall.
Customers are advised to immediately stop using these candles and return them to the nearest Kohl’s store. Those with a receipt will receive a full refund, those without a receipt will receive store credit.

Scary! I buy these all the time – just checked my candles, and the scents I have in my house right now aren’t on the list. Thank goodness.
Those without a receipt get a store credit? I feel like Kohl’s could do better than that for a candle that could light someone’s house aflame.
Kohl’s is definitely never for the customer. I mean look at their return policy using kohl’s cash. It Should be evenly distributed for each item that you buy. Instead if you try and return something and it’s less than the Cole’s cash that you got to spend. They don’t give you anything back because you just lose your Cole’s cash.
I just bought a whole bunch of these candles yesterday with their Veterans Day sale. I would assume they shouldn’t mail it out to me if they are part of the recall correct?
I have not purchased Sonoma candles for over 11 years. When my youngest was a baby we had ONE of these candles burning in the bathroom. I noticed my baby had black all around his little nostrils. I freaked. I went into the to clean his little nose out and saw that the flame on the candle was super high and there was a black line of “soot” running up the wall nearest to the candle. The black in my son’s nose was from the Sonoma candle. So gross and scary. I did let Koh’s know but did not receive a response at the time.
Please do not ignore this recall. This happened to us not too long ago, and it was so scary. The candle literally turned into a flaming torch, and it almost burned down our kitchen. Luckily we were close by, and one of our kids noticed it (this would not normally always be true because I had not idea you needed to watch a jar candle). By the time we noticed it, the candle had already started to burn the bottoms of our upper cabinets. Luckily no major damage was done, but it could have easily turned out very differently had we not been close by. I did not contact Kohls because I did not realize it was linked to Sonoma candles. I googled it and thought it was a rare “flash point” occurrence that can happen in some candles. I for one will never again leave a candle burning without being close by, and now I will be checking all of the remaining Sonoma candles I have to see if they are on the list.
Same thing happened to me. The flames were so high that me trying to blow it out was not working. I ran and dumped water on it. Super scary.
I’m not sure which scent I had, but this happened to me with one of the Sonoma candles last year! I had it on my entertainment center and my tv was mounted a safe distance above. My son called me into the living room because the entire candle was engulfed in flames and touching the bottom of the tv! Thank goodness he was in the room and noticed as soon as it happened or it would have been very bad.
No way, a little candle can be a fire hazard??
I just returned from Kohl’s with 2 of these recalled candles and they sure didn’t make it easy to return!! For one thing the clerk had no idea they there even was a recall!! I don’t think she believed me, but I did get a store credit (at the lowest price in the past. 90 days!)
I trim the wicks on all my candles each time I use them including these from Kohls…never had any problems.
This is why I never burn candles, as much as I love them, I might get a few cute tiny ones for the look or smell but never light them. I just can’t get the concept of lighting a flame in a home and walking away, I’m way too paranoid.
I purchased one recently in a Fall scent and ended up throwing it out. The wicks did not burn well at all. It was my first time buying a sonoma candle but will not purchase them again. Wish i still had it to return it.
Kohls is horrible I had a candle, one that was on the recall list, burst into flame about two months ago. I threw all the shards of glass in the trash. They said since I don’t have the candle, there is nothing they can do. I even ordered online and used a kohls card. It’s bull.
I received one of the scents listed as a teacher gift but it has a different UPC code. Does that mean it is okay?
I think the recall has to do with the jar/lid. If you click on the recall list and see the same Jar, I’d return
I just spent nearly an hour on Kohl’s chat with two different agents, and they both refused to refund me for the two candles I bought during the recall period. Absolutely crazy. It never even occurred to me to expect anything other than a speedy refund and an apology. Certainly wouldn’t have expected this from Kohl’s.
I just came from trying to return one of the recalled candles I received as a gift. I was told all I would get is $3 credit since the candles were clearance. I couldn’t get refund or store credit. I was going to just get store credit and buy another candle. No go. I took the candle back thinking they just didn’t know what to do at this store (even had a manager involved). I contacted Kohls corporate when I got home. They said that the store was correct. Unless I have a receipt (again this was a gift I received) I can only get the last price of the item. Since it was old that was $3. I have never had an issue with a recall ever until know. This is a huge safety issue yet they are not willing to stand by the recall. Normally you get store credit, exchange or refund. Nothing at Kohls. I will throw my candle in the trash. I will never buy or gift a Kohls candle in the future.
