“I originally bought a bag of this in my local grocery store but now get it every month on Subscribe and Save because it’s convenient and a better price. I cook it in the Instant Pot (on Rice setting) with 1.5 cups water to each 1 cup rice and I love it in sushi rolls or Thai bowls, and I usually make at least 2 cups of dry rice and will make rice porridge with the leftovers for breakfast. This is the best white sushi/short grain rice I’ve tried here on Amazon for the price. If you like brown, then try the Lundberg short grain brown rice here on Amazon, I got a 25 lb bag for a great price and it’s delicious.”

Thanks, Denise! I added that to the post!

Be aware that this rice come out sticky – it’s supposed to. But if you don’t like that, it may not work for you. I use it often for Korean food.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Thanks for the tip!

    • Bebe

Do you rinse the rice and pour out the water first? If you don’t do a pre-rinse and dump before adding in water for the final cooking, it can turn out sticky.

  4. Gmamma

This is such a great rice for sushi rice !! Always comes out perfect !!!

  5. Evie

I can buy a bag of 2lb. Brown rice at Dollar Tree for .99.
I cook till almost done, turn off and rice will cook itself in 10 minutes.

This is sushi rice, it’s different and usually more expensive. We make homemade sushi sometimes and appreciate this price!

      • Evie

I eat my sushi, with brown rice. If you like it, it is ok.
But white rice raises your glycemic index, unless it is Basmati.

        • ATM

I always use sushi rice since it comes out sticky, how do you make regular brown rice sticky?

          • Evie

For any rice to be sticky, use about 1/4 cup less water. Cooking for a while at a higher temp, till it starts to stick to pot. Sticky rice is also good for glycemic index.

        • Em C

Glycemic index is a property of a food, not the person eating it. White rice raises your blood glucose.

  6. Christine

I eat a lot of Japanese food and am pretty picky about rice. Nishiki is my main go-to
