Is there any difference with Credit karma tax and Turbo Tax? I just found out that Credit Karma is free and I’ve been buying Turbo Tax software for the past 8 years.
Bev84 – I use Turbo Tax and really like it’s ease of use. I am reluctant to use Credit Karma because of the trade off – it is my understanding they use your tax info for targeted advertising. This is what I found: The tax service is really free — even if you use complicated IRS forms. … And it’s already inspiring other free services that want to target advertising using tax data.
Such good info, Carrie. People must remember that whenever a service is offered to you “free” online (email, Facebook — anything!), then the business model is making YOU the product. They’re giving the service away so that they sell YOU to whomever they think can monetize the information.
One exception to that is that Turbotax and Tax Cut etc. are required to also offer a free version online to low income folks. They hide them and make them a challenge to find. However, they had to promise to offer that service to prevent the IRS from offering free filing on IRS.gov–the software companies cut that deal to keep the IRS from offering free fill-in-the-blank filing on its own website.
If this is a stupid question, please don’t judge. Is the software different than the online version? I always file online through TurboTax. Just wondering the benefits of buying software. Thanks in advance!
The software is usually cheaper than going straight to TurboTax.com.
Can you transfer all the information over if in the past you only used online?
I think so but I’m not 100% certain.
I bought mine off Amazon this morning and it had all these discounts at checkout. Deluxe came to 32.45. It said no rush reward next to the discounts as well as amazon day reward. Not sure what that means. But I was happy.
I think I figured it out! I had video credits from taking no rush shipping over Christmas. Must apply to a download version of turbo tax.
Thanks for the heads up! I think we have a credit or 2 as well.
I’ve bought the Turbo Tax Deluxe software for many years and normally love it. But, it would have been nice to know BEFORE I downloaded the purchased CD software that your computer has to have macOS 10.14 or newer to work. I have macOS 10.13.6. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I’d call them. When I accidentally bought the disc version and forgot my new computer didn’t gave a disc drive they were very helpful. They sent me a code for an online version.
Is there any that have state e-file?
I buy the Deluxe version which has federal and state.
