The latest food news is udderly devastating…

After a historical year of uncertainty and change, it looks like we have yet another price surge to expect, and it’s certainly not going to help Make America Grate Again. Brace yourself for the anticipated skyrocketing of the price of Parmesan cheese! 😭

While you may have noticed an increase in the price of other types of cheese due to the increased cost of production and delivery during the Covid 19 pandemic, Parmesan prices have remained fairly constant. The time is approaching for that to change.

Belgioso Parmesan Cheese

The delay in the increase is due to the fact that Parm needs to be aged for at least 10 months, so all of the cheese that was produced about 10 months ago is going to start to be distributed in the next couple of months and we’re all about to pay the price.

Experts are predicting that we will see a reasonably large price increase by April of this year and we should be prepared for it to last for about six months with the price of Parmesan estimated to jump about $1.50 to $2 per pound – YIKES!

Parmesan Cheese on shelf at Grocery Store

If your family is particularly fond of Parmesan, it might be worth stocking up now before the surge. Parmesan has a shelf life of 7-9 months when it remains sealed which may be just enough time to ride out what is predicted to be a legen-dairy price hike!

The BIG game is around the corner – we have 50 football-friendly recipes to try!

Cheese prices have not really gone up here but I am thinking Aldi and only buy otherwise on sale and at great prices.. We have a discount grocery and when gourmet brand prices skyrocket they end up there and at giveaway prices. I recently bought one pound packages of fresh mozzarella for $1. These discount scratch and dent stores are worth seeking out. We regularly buy the best foods for almost nothing.

Oh no 😮 we use parm all the time in our homemade cesear salads.

      Same!

Do you make your own salad dressing? I’m on the hunt for a recipe!

When prices increase rarely do I ever see them drop in the future

    • mmlovers90

I was thinking the same thing!

Great! Last year was horrible and this year is definitely not falling behind. We love fresh parm and we also use tons of the Kraft Parmesan cheese. Can’t wait price another price increase. I dread going to the grocery store. We are a family of 5 and since the pandemic started almost a year ago I have been cooking most of our meals (we have ordered out maybe 20 times since this started back in March) and it hasn’t been cheap.

Lol funny post. I love all the puns. I don’t love the fact that prices will increase, but you brought us the bad news in a humorous way 🙂

Thanks, Beth! So glad you enjoyed the post. It was definitely a fine line to keep a balance between fun, and informational without being overly cheesy! LOL

        Very sharp!

        • Nancy

          I havarti started stocking up

No wonder I couldn’t find any at my local Grocery Outlet! Thanks for the heads up

Has anyone tried the aldi pepperoni cheese? What do you do with it?

if cheese was the only thing going up Id be fine, but everything has gone up, a lot! Our grocery bill for 6, a dog and a cat is huge.

Good gracious yes it is getting costly for sure! I hope gas is not next on the list. Yikes!

      • Lana

Gas is next. Shutting down the Keystone Pipeline was the first attack on oil. That is what the Green New Deal is meant to do. They want us to switch to electric vehicles. We are no longer allowed to think for ourselves.

      • Alecia_D

Gas is already skyrocketing here. 🙁
And when gas goes up, EVERYTHING goes up.

      • LauraK

Gas is on the rise already in the Midwest. It will only get worse.

      • Lizag

Gas is already $3.50/gallon here is Southern California! And I think it will get worse.

If you can, COUPON. Many companies will send coupons if you email them: Chobani, Johnsonville, Silk, Bolthouse Farm to name a few of my favorites.

It’s a sad state when prices increase due to an emergency but never go back down. Remember when pigs in Europe were sick and they had to kill 99% of the herds. Prices never fully recovered. Before that you could regularly get bacon for 99 cents a pound. Now $2.99 is a “great deal.” 😢. Same thing happened with beef. Ground beef was regularly 99 cents a pound for 80/20. Not any more. Popularity ruins prices also. Chicken wings used to be a poor man’s meal along with flank and skirt steak. Price gouging frustrates me🤨

    • Lana

Those prices were back when people were happy with a 4 ounce serving of meat at a meal instead of it being the meal.

    • MJ

This is good to know, I will stock up, I usually buy the Parmesan at Costco, the cheaper less aged version, it already seems expensive and I hate adding it to my cart when I run out, at least it lasts awhile…

  10. Toni

I’d stock up. Grate the cheese or buy grates and store in your freezer. We use it straight from the freezer on dishes.

    • Jana

agreed! We used to buy a lot of shredded cheese. Tik Tok made my buy the cheese grater thing and now we save a lot of money buying the block cheese and it tastes 100x better than packaged shredded. And the blocks take up a lot less space in the freezer than the shredded.

      • Toni

Plus you don’t get the starch they add to keep shredded cheese from sticking together.

I feel the Trump slogan reference was insensitive, but appreciate the post!

Yet another thing going up in price… our grocery bill has gone way up in the past year due to all the prices going up. We usually shop at aldi and what used to cost $150-$160 is now easily well over $200.

  13. Nancy

    I havarti started stocking up

  14. DawnPuhalsky

I really doubt 6 months is going to “bring back better” prices.
