More Dollar Tree

We love bringing our $1 bills to Dollar Tree!

Dollar Tree treasure hunters -rejoice! You’re about to be able to score all your $1 finds and budget-friendly household supplies and groceries all in one spot!

Dollar Tree announced this week that they plan to open 600 new stores in 2021, and quite a few of them will include a new store concept – Dollar Tree and Family Dollar all under one roof.

Dollar Tree has been quietly opening a few of these combined test stores since 2019. There are currently around 50 of the duo stores, already ringing up $1 holiday decorations and helium balloons on one side while Family Dollar operates on the other.

Their ultimate plan is to open about 3,000 of these combined storefronts in rural, underserved areas.

We’re totally on board for this change!  We can still walk through those green doors knowing we’ll score the good stuff with our dollar bills, and then grab a few household essentials in the same spot at great prices! Sounds like a win-win!

I’ve never been to a Family Dollar before, do they actually have good prices on things?

    • scottkayla18

They are alot like dollar general

    • Paula

Where have u been girl ? It’s very affordable and lots of neat stuff. It’s like a dollar general

I would love to have Dollar Tree in my area. We have 99 cents store and its starting to become a scam. Oscar mayer ham/balogna they used to sell for 99 cents is not $1.99-2.99, milk and eggs are more expensive than Kroger’s. They keep raising the prices, they should change name because it seems like a scam now 99 cents with the fine print “and more”

    • Tas

I used to love the 99 cent store for always being able to find name brands and organic items even at times for just $1! ever since they switched and started selling items (I’ve seen some even at $30?!?!) I have cut back and go maybe a couple times a year. I’m going there with the intent of purchasing items for $1, not paying regular store price for items. Same reason I stopped going to Five Below as often once they started bringing in $7-10 items. You’re not even sticking to your name anymore lol

Very smart move to have their stores in rural areas. In NC I c Dollar General everywhere including the smallest towns. I’m a DT fan n always wondered y they’re not in every town like Dollar General. DT really needs to spread their presence. I’m sure they will b popular wherever they open cause they are truly $1 (sometimes even less). They are so affordable that they’re needed everywhere. I’m glad the rural communities will get this benefit soon.

Dollar Generals in all those rural towns often put the local groceries out of business. Unfortunately they contribute to creating food deserts because they sell packaged food, often cheaper than the grocery stores, but they don’t offer fresh produce.

      • skateman1sgirl

Dollar General Market offers great prices on produce. Wish this Family Dollar/ Dollar Tree combo would do a Family Dollar Market

      • Fran

Our DG in Alabama offers Very nice produce at a great price!

  4. Rachel Pearson

There are two of these stores near me, one opened just a couple months ago and one is opening soon. Both are in small towns, not large enough for a Walmart but larger than what just a dollar general can handle. It’s going to help both towns tremendously.

  5. Mamamia

Few locations all 20/30 min away. The one five min away closed a year ago and was replaced by a car dealership..it was the best one! Hoping it gets replaced by a new one just as close by!

  6. Lisha

I’m aware of one (there may be more) in NYC, it’s not in my area so I cannot provide feedback.

  7. renee-5

We have dollar tree in Washington were I am. I don’t know what family dollar sells. Can some fill me in please?

    • Amy

it’s almost like a mini walmart. a mix of everything, even clothes. but cheaply made. they do carry name brands though, mostly more expensive than your grocery.

  8. Lexi

Everything in Dollar Tree is $1. Dollar General however has prices well over a dollar.

  9. skylarautumnsummers-blazey

Our dollar tree here in Hollywood California just closed so sad.

  10. aimeedeoferiotomas

I hope this duo store will be in WA. I will be the happiest shopper on earth lol!

  11. mara138

We’ve had one in Indiana for a few years I wish they merged with Dollar Grneral not family dollar lol then for me it could’ve been a one stop shop. I still always go to DG and the normal Dollar tree. But for the local people without transportation I’m sure they love it.

  12. zari

Where I live there are 3 family dollars 3 minutes away from each other/ me and there is also a dollar tree in the middle of all three. Family dollar honestly is exactly like dollar general. They do have coupons for $5 off $25 as well and I used to be able to stack coupons for boxes of diapers like luvs and buggies. They carry some of the same items at Dollar Tree at Family dollar but just with different packaging labels. There isn’t anything really spectacular and I’m not sure why they would combine the stores if they sell some of the same stuff in DT as in Family dollar. Doesn’t really make sense to me. Overall family dollar is more for conscience, for those who like to coupon and nothing spectacular as it is the exact same at DG.

    • zari

Not conscience I meant convenient. Also family dollar is more expense than DT

  13. June

Will they pay go up? It’s alot of work to keep those filled and looking clean.

  14. Evie

That is what I think, an excuse to raise prices.
I espeacially hate getting paper coupons and most are Dollar General, though none in my area.
I am getting by with a lot less. Find I do not need the cheap junk from China.

    • Kate+4

Yes!! I SO AGREE!! Everything we have gotten from either store u keep in mind it’s 1 time use (if that) b4 it falls apart. If the REALLY wanted to do good they wld stop selling trash to add to the landf.

    • Sue

I agree it is cheap stuff and the smell in the stores make me cough. I haven’t been in one for a couple years

  15. tracy

I think this is actually going to be a nice combo. Those of us who like going to Dollar tree are the same people who like Family Dollar and Dollar General.

  16. MaaMaaBear

I love knowing everything in Dollar Tree is only $1! I take my kids in every now and then and let them pick 5 things each…. With this concept it won’t be so easy to do that anymore knowing somethings are not just $1.

  17. Vicki Wagner

I hate to see these type of stores in rural areas. They want to put one in our area right next door to a beautiful dairy farm!

  18. Julie

If you like buying ‘made in China’ products. I like to buy MADE IN AMERICA to keep AMERICANS employed

  19. Shannon

I have been getting Family Dollar toilet paper ( 32 rolls) for the last 12 years!! Best price and quality product. I won’t buy anything else.

  20. Pat

I used to love Dollar Tree, but about 2 years after they open they end up a mess, empty and messy shelves, nothing stocked. I pretty much stopped going there and I miss the way they were when they first opened.

  21. Donna Ferrell

We need a dollar tree/family dollar store in our area.

  22. Linda Clary

They are supposed to be building a Dollar Tree/Family Dollar store in Denton, NC. We are thrilled! I love their card selection and beautiful gift bags. Also, you can’t beat the price of their acrylic paints and canvas. This store will be swamped with business! I am counting down the days until it opens.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

So exciting, Linda! 🎉 I agree that their card and gift bag selection is awesome – and such a great price! ❤️

  23. theresa bigos

Is there a Dollar Tree store coming to Huntley, IL?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Theresa! I did a quick search for that location, and it seems the closest one at this time is in Algonquin, IL. Hoping another location opens closer for you in the future! 🤞💞

      • theresa bigos

hopefully one will come to Huntley soon. Algonquin is a distance. With Sun City and numerous schools in the area I.m sure it would do well. it’s an up and coming area.

  24. RUTH MAXWELL

when will the DOLLAR TREE open in New Bloomfield PA [next to KARNS FOOD]

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hoping you get one near you soon, Ruth! 🤞❤️
